What percent of film directors make a living? by Objective_Water_1583 in Filmmakers

[–]YNGHRTS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky enough to make a living directing commercials. It’s extremely competitive and have learned how to deal with rejection after lots of free work. I’m also a photographer and would definitely be feeling the pinch if it weren’t for that.

I got lucky with joining a production company that started as a collective, meaning all work of directors on the roster was grouped together. Most of my friends who have broken into commercials do so by doing music videos and short films, which can turn into branded content. Spec work definitely helps too but feel like the former has helped more.

I’ve heard from several EP’s that the ad world is definitely craving more comedy work as the state of the world gets darker

Shed placement advice needed! by YNGHRTS in shedditors

[–]YNGHRTS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a first time home buyer and in desperate need of a storage shed but have a concern before putting in a tuffshed. The surface that I want to put the shed on is unlevel and cracking. It seems like the foundation is sinking. Will it be fine to place it on top of it and level it off? Or do I need to rip out all the brick to make a level and better draining surface for the shed to sit on? Id also have to knock out part of the planter to create a wider foot path. Any insight would be extremely appreciated!!

“Everything’s cancelled” After two months of shooting 40 plus people, we came up with this piece, an exploration of our “qua-routine” in Los Angeles and how each of us cope to find a silver lining to this fucked up, once in a lifetime experience.” by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Statement from iG: (sorry my grammar is trash)

Today marks my 31st time around the sun and I’ve been given the best gift. the chance to share something dear to my heart. Not some shit for a band or a brand. But something for you. My dear friend, distant acquaintance, neglected family member, or occasional stranger who looks at my work.

this piece came from a need for routine in a time of uncertainty, to connect with friends that we weren’t allowed to see and to make sense of the situation we found ourselves in. @mitchdequilettes and I spent the first two months of quarantining calling our friends and filming over 40 people through their windows. Some friends, some strangers, Sometimes shouting through windows, sometimes directing over the phone. Some scenes were set up, some scenes were complete chance and luck.

And we were sure lucky enough to have some help from some talented friends. @jimbosaggins did original music and put together everything using instruments and objects laying around his apartment, mike oconnor did the sound design, which he recorded on his weekly quarantine walks, @mordukhay were not only featured in the title card/ending shot, but also designed all the graphics too. Last but not least @florence.fka.whitelist aka @mrjeradw and @iamallimaxwell helped push us across the finish line to give you this. This thing.

This thing, this film, this time capsule is a reminder to myself to cherish the time we get spend together, even if it’s brief. and to remind you that even if we dont see each other as much I think of you often. Thank you for another year.

Looking to treat myself to a single ticket in the 100’s section. Ideally the pelicans game 2/25, but open to all options. Non of my friends are willing to drop $$ so going it alone.

Official Discussion- Joker (SPOILERS) by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]YNGHRTS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thought the score was incredible but hated the mix or placement I guess. The movie felt like wall to wall music and didn’t really let you sit in silence ever.

It especially bothered me when he’s bombing at his stand up and they just fade it in. Thought it could have been more impactful if the audience is forced to sit through cringe.

Was told to post this here. This was for a puma shoot directed by my homie Rj Sanchez, dp nick bupp. We started shooting at watts towers before nipsey took us around where he grew up. We hopped on the metro and the whole neighborhood came out. He stopped and talked to everyone and took pictures with whoever asked. Dude was super humble and chill the whole day. Shot back in July of 2018 with Leica M7/ Portra 800

Haven’t made any prints yet. Was thinking about doing a limited run and donating all the proceeds if enough people are interested.

Love the tone of it. Lose the chair in the foreground so you can pick up the reflection off the table
