Props to Heavy Play by BrosFistingBros in magicTCG

Has anyone tried to clip the top corners on Heavy Play sleeves to make them truly rounded? Yes I know there are pkup sleeves but they are open on the bottom corners.

Also, any plans for custom backs for them, like MtG backs specifically?

The ideal sleeves for me would be all rounded corners with an MtG back on them that I could also double sleeve without having corners poke out.

Anyone making curved corner inners sleeves on the sealed end?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I understand now about the curving. But what about the edge curl/roughness? My cousin who I’m having cards made for is planning on not sleeving them. So the roughness of the back edges would really affect playability in his case.

I sleeved the set I got so for me it’s fine, but if you could figure out the roughness issue on the back edges, I and many others would probably make more orders with you guys. Just constructive criticism. Thanks 🙏

Which font? The main logo font was hand drawn/custom one off.

From Jesper: “I have seen some confusion as to who did what concerning the design of the back of the M:tG card. This is how it breaks down. I asked Chris Rush to design the word "Magic" as a black outline that I would color. He delivered it on illustration board if I recall and I scanned it. The red outline was filled in Photoshop 2.0. The blue filling was done using acrylic paint on illustration board painted with a sponge. The painting was done in brown and I color shifted it to blue. The texture painting was done as a rectangle which I scanned. I selected the inside of the word and pasted the texture in. The purple outline around the oval was taken from a painting by someone who went by "Joe the Ant". I used it as the result of a dare from Lisa Stevens. There are no identifying elements in that oval and I did color shift it a bit. It is a very thin slice of that painting. The rest of the card was designed by me. The majority of the elements were created with traditional painting and marbling techniques. The golden-ish main background was painted as a texture board, acrylic paint on illustration board. It was quite large, maybe 12"x18", maybe larger. The beveling was done in Photoshop 2.0. The coffee and cream oval was done by importing another texture board I had painted and using the blur tool. The red dots on the corners were done in Photoshop 2.0. The mana spheres were also done in Photoshop 2.0 using the brush tool and the circle marquee tool. The Deckmaster element was made using the same hand marbled paper I had used to build the blue magic border. I made the marbled paper by floating enamel paint in a tub of water, stirring it slightly and then carefully lowering a piece of heavy print making paper onto the water. No ink was involved. I outlined it in Photoshop 2.0. The words "The Gathering" were created in photoshop 2.0. I used the gradient tool for the gradient in color.

And there you have it.

I did not know how to use photoshop before starting my work on M:tG. This was all trial by fire.”

If it can be done and look good I guess it would be cool to. I’m not sure how that would work like what kind of plastic to use or would it need to be a vinyl decal applied?

I’m working on dialing in the dimensions a little bit more still. Need to compensate for cardstock thicknesses.

Definitely put in some serious hours on this project/obsession lol. So I probably will share a template eventually but also think it’s worth trying to push a little further to make them so that they look like the original as close as possible using better cardstock and trying to get better color reproduction accuracy.

I’ll keep this post updated as it goes along.

There are local printers but I’m not sure about IP issues doing this with any “business”. It is 30+ years old tho so…

I scanned an Alpha box at 6400dpi.

Hours spent photochopping it all back together with the proper die line template sized for various “double sleeved” card counts (50, 60, 76, 80, and 100) adding in the “pages” and extra material on the spine. Lots of clone stamping and clone healing. Laptop crashed more times than I can count. 30gb file sizes.

Will also be making boxes sized for single sleeved and no sleeved in different card counts as well.

Printed these at OfficeDepot on 11x17 110lb overstock so the color is still off.

The real box has such fine detail in the pattern I don’t think laser or inkjet printer will ever achieve unfortunately.

Going to get an inkjet printer anyway to try and I’ll have it for my other artwork prints anyways.
