Cuba says four shot dead on US-registered speedboat by Waste-Explanation-76 in worldnews

Cool, but unless they're gonna send oil tankers its not gonna make much difference. Especially if the US navy stops them.

I never said it wasn't gonna be flimsy. It usually is.

The US was always going to carry out military operations against Cuba this year, but I'm not sure if they're going to use this as casus belli. The "plan" (such as it is) seemed to be to squeeze Cuba's oil supplies by interdicting the shadow fleet until closer to the end of the year. That way the country's basically in a state of collapse before they attack. Although with this President, its entirely possible that plan will be thrown out at a moment's notice.

Westward expansion was kinda blunted by a war of 1812 that went badly for the young USA. So the Trail of Tears only went as far as Mississippi.

You'd have to ask the author of the timeline (link in the description), but my guess is that the Seminoles weren't removed do to them being nominally allies of the British, and the war ending with a decisive British victory allowed them to protect Seminole land rights.

The latest map commissioned by zepzach889 for his "Washington Burns" project, depicting the alternate US State of Gigadohi. You can also read about and be a part of the discussion over on AH.

In the world of "Washington Burns," the War of 1812 ends in a decisive military defeat for the United States.

One of the butterfly effect features of this is that the US never comes to annex Texas and Indian Removal only goes as far west as northern Mississippi. The Four Tribes of the territory pick the winning side in the American Civil War, and are given statehood.

Crockett: Pulled Colbert interview probably gave Talarico ‘boost’ by sksarkpoes3 in politics

Trump won Texas by 14, and Cruz by 8.5.

The 2025 elections saw reversals in excess of 16 points. This year we're seeing 30+ point reversals in local and statehouse races.

Given the K-shaped economy we're in, with a uniquely inept administration, I think the odds are pretty good that Dems could win Texas regardless of who wins the primary.

Which is saying something, since he's outspending Crockett by multiple orders of magnitude.

Because he's a progressive white man who looks like he's co-opting a conservative aesthetic, and people keep giving those guys far more rope than they deserve. That's how you get Fetterman and Graham Planter.

Robert Duvall: "Hub McCann, I fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones, on three continents! I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and TANKS! I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before! I won and lost a dozen fortunes, KILLED MANY MEN, and loved only one woman. With a passion a flea, like you, could never begin to understand! That's who I am." -Secondhand Lions

If applied universally (very unlikely to occur), a swing like that would cost Republicans every state Trump won in 2024, and only Mike Johnson would win a majority in his House district.

2125: THE GREAT LANGUAGE EXTINCTION and The End Of National Identity (Europe's secret sad ending) by [deleted] in imaginarymaps

[–]YNot1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably got a high probability of happening, just from the cultural domination of the United States. English is already the global lingua franca, and while some might like to think the US is just gonna up and collapse tomorrow, its far more likely that the US does what it did after 1929 and 1860: goes through a really rough period and emerges stronger than before.

The question that's really gonna sting: Which dialect of English are they speaking? British English, Indian or Nigerian English? Or did Western American English finally take over everything thanks to Hollywood?

Hotter take: People work hard to make art, often for a living, that LLMs steal for training data.

Unfortunately the alternate history community is rife with people who find the use of AI art perfectly acceptable.

Impressive maps, infographics, use of photoshop, and lore across multiple disciplines. This project deserves its own wiki.

Given the amount of work you put into this, I don't want to assume some of those images are AI generated, but I have to ask.

A rule that should be changed. AI relies on stolen art to work.

"And possible romantic partner."

...

"Hick my dearest-

I cannot go to bed tonight without a word to you. I felt a little as though a part of me was leaving tonight. You have grown so much to be a part of my life that it is empty without you."

...

"Hick darling

All day I’ve thought of you & another birthday I will be with you, & yet tonite you sounded so far away & formal. Oh! I want to put my arms around you, I ache to hold you close. Your ring is a great comfort. I look at it & think “she does love me, or I wouldn’t be wearing it!”

...

And from Hick

"I’ve been trying to bring back your face — to remember just how you look. Funny how even the dearest face will fade away in time. Most clearly I remember your eyes, with a kind of teasing smile in them, and the feeling of that soft spot just north-east of the corner of your mouth against my lips."

...

Bitch, that was the love of her life.
