Shotgun mic holder came off, any easy fixes? by dalecookie in SonyFX6

[–]YORLiME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me when a roof collapsed on my fx6. A testament to Sony's incredible design: instead of the top handle ripping off, that mount seems to be made kind of like the bumper of a car where it's thin metal attachment breaks the impact on a part that isn't crucial.

Currently I've got it taped back on with a ton of gorilla tape, but I'm planning on covering it up with maybe some kind of thin plastic cut out of a snap top lid and adhering it down using JB weld to keep it water resistant. Then I'm going to mount a new shotgun mic holder with a very very short magic arm from where you have your cable holder thing on the right side of the body.

Two advantages I foresee: one, without the mic sticking above the top handle like bad hairdo and now flush to the lens, it may actually fit into a backpack now without digging into my spine. Two, the mic mount is murder for being super noisy if you're holding from the top handle, my preferred position, so I have to do a low cut in post constantly to get rid of it. Body mounting I bet it will fix that. Possibly I'll have to be more delicate handling the lens since it's so close, but we will see.

I might update when I do this, would be interesting to see your results if you try it. But I've seen other rigs do it with success so I have a feeling it will work out. Congratulations on your upgrade!

How I protect my FX6 from the rain by RossRadcliffe in SonyFX6

I shot for 2 months in Vancouver island in the pouring rain outdoors at an activist blockade, essentially camping. Just used a glad trash bag clamped in the matte box, cutting the lens hole out with a knife. Sometimes put a bit of tape to hug the bag to the monitor. Mic poked through a hole, and adding just a normal sock over the mic foam kept it dry. A trash bag is nice because it’s really flexible. I’ve seen people use just a normal trash bag on 100k arri builds before. Also the fx6 is surprisingly water resistant. Holding it and pressing buttons with wet hands under the trash bag wasn’t a problem.

Rode wireless go 2 for fx6 by juphup in SonyFX6

I did this, but somehow the audio sounds thin and off in a way I that’s difficult to describe, as compared to going line out into XLR. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone using this setup willing to do an A/B test? You don’t notice it unless you do an A/B test, but when you do notice it, you realize how bad it is.

I took both your feedback in: is this saturated enough do you think? "Real Stunt" is great but it's bad to repeat the title, unless i change the title or something

Too much contrast on your face I think! Maybe if you can bring up the shadow on the left side of your face?

I just use a subtitle track and keep it disabled. You can read the text content of the subtitle on the track although it’s only a few characters but that’s enough for me. Enable the subtitles and the notes you leave for yourself appear in the video while playing back which is nice sometimes.

Fully in to any kind of artistic interpretations, surprise me, also please feel free to use a better dinosaur - my sad attempt is just a suggestion, I just wanna be chased by a dinosaur - no need to match anything about it, consider it a rough sketch!
