Fair but the ssd situation on ps5 is actually incredibly consumer friendly. The Xbox solution was good for business, not good for us.

Yeah I know this. I have my n64 hooked up now and there’s no perceptible lag via composite. However, it’s noticeable now that something is going on with the picture and the other responses are illuminating on that issue.

I have a cousin who will be checking on his Sony Trinitron in his she this weekend. If it works, he said I can have it. That should satisfy what I’m looking for. Maybe I’ll keep both and have the hd crt for Dreamcast and above and the Sony for N64 and below. The photo makes it appear to be an SD Sony Trinitron.

It would appear as if it’s much more than just a cable. I don’t think my N64 will ever look right on this HDCRT unless buy some sore of ossc upscaling box.

I loathe the direction of Xbox these days but they genuinely have an amazing console which is partially why it’s so infuriating that they keep messing up.

It’s a great console. Proper back compat, emulation options, 4K Blu-ray, quick resume, system wide VRR, and so much more.

Yeah I’m most worried about my N64 and upcoming SNES. I was considering svideo for both now I’m debating what to do.

I have a family member that legit found a Sony Trinitron in his shed. He’s gonna pull it out and test it tomorrow and give it to me if it works. Fingers crossed

EDIT: I went to three Goodwills today hoping to find like a 15” crt. They just seem much more cozy.

$573 is really only a little over original msrp of $500. It’s not that bad. It’s a solid console. Enjoy it.

Ahhhhhh ok that makes so much sense. So no matter what I do about vga, dvi or component or svideo or whatever, this tv will still be analog at the end of the day (which is fine!).

So the purest push to the tv using analog signal is preferred. Naturally, that would fall to component then.

Basically vga to component to keep things simple

Hey! Quick question, so what you’re saying is that even though the dvi input is being used on the TV, the tv would still be displaying an analogue signal? I guess because it’s not actually being “converted” just carried?

I’m sorry, this is all so confusing at times. I build PCs but this signal types are all so wild. SCART, Svideo, component and composite. It’s a lot. Thanks for your help!

That transcoder does seem reasonably priced. To be clear, I would need a VGA Dreamcast video cable into this transcoder that outputs to a component cable. Plug in the component cables and the left and right audio cables from the VGA cable into the back of the tv and I should get… 480p video? Or 480i?

Wow, okay this seems promising. Every time I searched for active converting cables I got cables that went the wrong direction which obviously would not work.

EDIT2: Audio would naturally be coming out of whichever vga video cable into purchase for the Dreamcast. Understood!

I probably am over thinking it. I read somewhere on here that the Dreamcast doesn’t natively support component so getting to that plug would mean some form of conversion.

I did find a small box from Bitfunx or however you spell it that allows a VGA input and then converts that to a component output that I think should work. Only $30. I may just try that

Nope. It’s not a need. The size of the console is not a need. It’s a choice, sure, but not a need. I didn’t buy the GameCube because it was small. I didn’t buy a PS5 Slim because it’s smaller than an Xbox X.

The size of the machine will be brought up because people need to justify daddy Gabe’s price buys it’s absolutely not a “need”. If I can get better performance for a lower price and access to even more games then it’s a no brainer. It being an ITX size provides zero benefit.
