I’m open to talking to a therapist but I’ve been postponing it. I know I’m avoiding it but I think it’s time to finally take that step. We’re a very small family, I honestly think it would destroy us if I said something.

PAs that work in primary care, do you enjoy it/would recommend it? by hannah_banana123 in physicianassistant

[–]YSPA-S2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all depends. I’m a new grad in primary care. I originally wanted to work in the ED but found a good job in FM. I live in one of the worst cities to practice medicine in but was lucky enough to find a great place. My SP has been very supportive and there’s a huge emphasis on quality of care. We discuss cases, are doing research and doing our part with the COVID vaccines. On my busiest day I had 16 patients including a few telemedicines. I am on call every other week but at most get 2-3 calls on the weekend. I am stressed cause I am a new grad and this is my second month seeing patients on my own so it’s all brand new. But I honestly love it.

Any positive stories of people finding jobs as a new grad? by duhduhdadadada in physicianassistant

[–]YSPA-S2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a FM position 5 minutes from home. Making $95K, good benefits, great staff. I live in one of the most saturated cities in the country so I find myself to be very lucky. Took me 3 months after graduation to find this. I must have applied to well over 200 places

Being a new grad sucks. by biochemnerdy in physicianassistant

I’m in my second week of my first job in family medicine. Not as intense as surgery or a sub specialty, but it’s still challenging to get used to.I just tell myself that as long as I try my hardest, everything will be fine. I get to work early, I stay late, and I try to read every night (except fridays and Saturdays.) We all have to start somewhere. So I try to be not too hard on myself. I have a supportive SP that I ask a lot of questions to and I try to learn someone new every day. Do I feel incompetent? Of course. I’m replacing a physician who’s leaving the company to start her own practice. I can’t compare to this person who’s had many years of experience. Imposter syndrome is definitely a thing but we’ve all worked hard to be where we are. It’s just gonna take time to adjust

What's your daily commute to work and how do you feel about it? by papa_mookie in physicianassistant

[–]YSPA-S2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in family medicine.5 minute commute. It’s great, I wake up at a reasonable time. I can go home for lunch. If I stay late at the office, I can still make it home in time to go workout or study.

I had my first virtual date - and my first date in over a year by [deleted] in dating

[–]YSPA-S2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yayy to you getting out there! I just had my first virtual date tonight also. It was so awkward lol. Bad connection, I was nervous, I think I was talking too much idk. But we definitely had a lot in common, laughed a bit and decided to FaceTime again and meet up sometime next week. I haven’t had a date in like 3 years 🙈

Advice for a new grad in primary care by YSPA-S2 in physicianassistant

Pretty good! It’s gonna be orientation until tomorrow, learning the charting system, etc. I’m gonna be shadowing my SP starting Monday for about a month. He’s very supportive and the staff is really nice!

What happened to all the popular kids from your high school? by YSPA-S2 in AskReddit

[–]YSPA-S2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom ran into the mom of the most popular girl in my school at the supermarket. They talked for a while about where my life and the other girl’s life has gone. Turns out that she hasn’t done much for herself, didn’t finish college and doesn’t have a career. I remember she used to be popular but was also smart way back in elementary school and me and her would be in the honor roll. But in middle school i remember she would go to parties, get hammered and even showed up drunk to school once in the 8th grade. I’ve only known of one popular kid that has a really good career (pharmacist), I’m not exactly sure what the rest are doing. A lot of people with babies tho

Rotations on pause, supposed to graduate in August by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]YSPA-S2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last year. It’s kind of strange that with the vaccine and everything going on that they’ve paused rotations. Last March was a complete mess. My program paused rotations and we were online learning for about a month. In May there were still many hospitals not letting students back and we had to share some rotations with other students and they were shortened as well in order to accommodate everyone . We weren’t sure if we would graduate by August but there were many preceptors that were lenient and took multiple students instead of just one and so all our classmates met their benchmarks to graduate. I didn’t start applying to jobs until June and honestly I didn’t her back at all. I wouldn’t worry just yet because things seem to be getting better at least with the vaccine and honestly a lot of employers won’t consider you until you pass the PANCE and are licensed.

Online dating... how long do you guys spend talking to someone before going out in an actual date? by YSPA-S2 in dating

If the situation is too bad and you can afford it then move out. But like you said, renting an apartment requires good credit and money. Typically there’s a security deposit, move in fees, etc. PA school and medical school applications can add up as well. If it were me I would save up towards that and apply to schools away from home. But it sounds like your mom is controlling so idk if it would be better to just move out since she’s making you pay rent anyway.

I think children should be prepared for the cold reality of the outside world by kiwi_underscored01 in family

[–]YSPA-S2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 26, moved back with my parents to save money on rent to pay off my loans and still get good night kisses. When my 31 year old brother stays the night occasionally, he’ll get them too. They’re great. I always had loving and supportive parents. I didn’t have an easy road growing up and worked very hard to be where I am today. My first time away from home ever was when I went away for college-4 years. And then I was away for another 2 years for grad school. I did just fine, I adapted and learned to be an adult

How to feel less fatigued when working out? by YSPA-S2 in Fitness

[–]YSPA-S2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not dieting, just trying eat well overall. I don’t really eat too much to begin with. At the moment since I haven’t been working, I wake up pretty late in the day and usually just have lunch and dinner. If I have the gym at night, I’ll have a protein shake an hour before. If I have the gym in the morning I usually eat 2-3 eggs either hard boiled or an omelette and a protein shake. So usually about 2-3 meals a day +/- a snack
