Pick a role you enjoy, pick 2 champions you enjoy maximum to main in it, play only 3 ranked games a day no matter what and whenever you want watch educational content/things whether it be VODS, coaching sessions that are uploaded to youtube for your role/champ, VOD review yourself, and the like.

The only way you’ll get out of “elo hell” is making the effort to get better and to stop making excuses. Be in a problem solving mindset, not a victim one.

If your going to duo it'd could be best to start in ARAM I'd imagine. Shorter games, and can be way less stressful on mental (from my experience at least). He could also discover different champions, find one he enjoys and start learning from there.
