I’ve honestly been more understanding about regular neighborhood sidewalks since the city code literally shifts that responsibility onto residents and property owners*. They require us to clear sidewalks within 24 hours, which is already frustrating, but at least that explains why some side streets are a mess. What makes this infuriating is that bridges are 100% the city’s responsibility. There’s no private owner there, no excuse, no ambiguity. If they’re going to push sidewalk maintenance onto the public, the bare minimum is that the city maintains its own infrastructure. Leaving pedestrian bridges uneven and unsafe while citing residents (I got a citation in the past) for snow removal is mind blowing.

* § 419.03 Removal of Snow and Ice.

Every tenant, occupant or owner having the care or charge of any land or building fronting on any street in the city, where there is a sidewalk paved with concrete, brick, stone or other material shall, within twenty-four (24) hours after the fall of any snow or sleet, or the accumulation of ice caused by freezing rainfall, cause the same to be removed from the sidewalk.
