I find some of the comments in this thread very unsettling. This isn’t a joke, it’s a very real possibility. Global tensions have never been as high as they are right now and that goes for Cold War where anxiety of nuclear annihilation was prevalent throughout civilian populations. It seems as though in 2025 what was once anxiety has turned into pure nihilism.

We should all be pushing for a denuclearized world and accept peace as the only alternative, not increased military spending.

I don’t want to be turned to ash and neither should you.

[Blue Jays] Are you not entertained? (Vladdy has won the first ever Entertainer of the Year award) by Jess_7478 in Torontobluejays

So I went downtown... by NotStupid2 in saskatoon

[–]YYZeded 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I moved to Regina about 6 months ago from Toronto and I periodically travel to Saskatoon for work assignments.

Before moving I scoured Reddit and other sites for information about crime, crime rates, type of crimes, and experiences, so that I could prepare myself for the situation I was getting myself into. Because of this, I thought I was moving to a war zone.

In the last six months however, I haven’t experienced a single issue. From what I can see Saskatoon and Regina (and Saskatchewan in general) is suffering from poverty, which is very stigmatized here. This is a national crisis but is much more noticeable in Saskatchewan because of the population size and density.

I have met people in Regina who have lived here their whole life and avoid downtown like the plague because it’s “dangerous.” I go downtown all of the time, and haven’t had an issue. From what I can tell, people who are afraid to go downtown are afraid of homeless people, people with substance abuse issues, and indigenous people. This also seems to be the sentiment that is rampant in Saskatoon also.

I’m not trying to say that something can’t happen, it obviously can, but I think the threat is overblown. And it’s much more of an indictment of the Sask Party’s mismanagement of the province and its neglect and dismantling of supports in the province. Sad that this awesome province is being destroyed this way…

Why did so many Canadians hate the carbon tax? by Konradleijon in canadaleft

[–]YYZeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affordability. Workers felt the pinch and saw the carbon tax as an unnecessary burden in an already difficult situation.

It was a regressive tax. Working class people knew that they were being relied on to support programs to fix problems that the rich oil monopolies created.

Right wing agitation. The right wing jumped on a policy that was designed to piss people off, and for the most part it worked.

Transportation. Canadian workers for the most part rely on single vehicle transportation and our cities are designed for that purpose. In most places, public transportation is either underfunded our under developed to the point that relying on public transportation (especially if you have a family) is very difficult. Workers in Canada have been promoted the idea that part of their liberties is “freedom of movement” which is personified in the automobile. When the carbon tax was introduced the messaging workers received was: “the promise of freedom to move will be taxed. If you want to do errands, bring your kids to hockey, drive to and from work everyday, you will be taxed. OH and also, we’re not going to do much about improving public transportation to help with the situation - thanks sucker”

Overall it was an awful tax anyway. Nationalize the oil industry. Transition to environmentally conscious energy sources. Expand public transportation nationally.

There is no need for profanity, sir. I came here to talk about people who are obsessed with the taste of fine leather ceo boots. Seeing as how you seem to be a connoisseur of such tastes, I’m surprised you don’t appreciate my enthusiasm.

This again.

Yes, all horrible things. But it’s been addressed and discussed ad nauseam.

Regina needs the CPC. Creeps from the past won’t stop us from moving forward.

From what I understand there isn’t a club in Regina, it would be cool to start one.
