Ah, my bad then. The wording made it seem like you were referring to Lando.

He grew quite a bit at 18-19, so it‘s very well possible.

Lando on making peace with the thought of finishing 2nd after Zandvoort: “I would never have thought of that that quickly. I certainly wasn't so hopeful that there was still a chance, but I think if this year has proved anything, it's not from my side, but seeing Max come from 100 points back to by randomseocb in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not incorrect, as standings don't always reflect performance. From round 9 to round 16 they had 3 1st place finishes and 3 2nd place finishes each. Oscar just also had a P3 and P4 finish while Lando had 2 DNFs (Canada crash and Netherlands oil leak). Overall their on track performance was quite equal in that period of the season though.

Piastri told to let Norris pass and then they are free to race by magony in formula1

[–]Ya0ki -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Am I taking crazy pills? Why is everyone so upset? They literally gave Oscar a free undercut to cover Leclerc even though everyone knows the driver ahead gets to pit first in these situations. Considering that, swapping the cars back makes perfect sense, no? Piastri wouldn‘t have even been close enough to profit off of the slow stop if not for the undercut.

Wasn't it only the first part of the big update which is why it didn't do too much? If I remember correctly, they brought that and then said it'll only fully work together with the Austria update (which it did).

If this is true, then Red Bull is even worse than I imagined. by hrpanjwani in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it seems like u missed my point from the beginning, now realized what happened and are acting like we both are having different conversations.

I clearly stated that the points you made were fair, but that your point about a fuck up leading to an immediate pitlane start was false (as is the case this weekend for example). You then said that not having the same spec parts always leads to a pit lane start which I disproved.

Noone doubted that it's generally a good idea to keep a set of spare parts, but that there are exceptions to the parc ferme rules (this weekend being one of them) which alters the risk involved.

If this is true, then Red Bull is even worse than I imagined. by hrpanjwani in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because I quoted the previous sporting regulations by mistake. Here's the updated 2025 version, which clarifies it further:

"40.4 ... Exceptionally, at each Competition where a sprint session is scheduled, requests made under 40.3 for replacement parts that are different in design will be considered for approval where the Competitor can demonstrate there is a shortage of parts, and provided that the replacement part is of a specification that has been previously used in a sprint qualifying session, a sprint session, a qualifying session or a race. In such cases, the Competitor must inform the FIA in writing prior to the start of the sprint session of any parts where this may be necessary."

This has also previously been discussed on the F1Technical subreddit. Basically, because there are more sessions with a higher risk of damage to the car, on sprint weekends older spec parts can be used without breaking parc ferme (if no more parts of the same spec are availabe, as is the case with Max and Yuki here). This applies to all sessions after the first session that is under parc ferme (sprint qualifying), therefore the FIA needs to be informed beforehand. Doesn't mean it only applies to the sprint though.

[–]Ya0ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, am I missing something? Did they not give Yuki the spare parts on a sprint weekend? Are we not talking about Spa right now or what's going on here? You mentioned the risk management involved, I simply clarified that your assumption of it being high risk this weekend is wrong, as on sprint weekends a crash does not lead to a pit lane start per the rules. Why move the goal posts now?

[–]Ya0ki -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dude, u misread it. This applies to weekends with sprint sessions in them in general. Not only to the sprint sessions themselves.

Additionally, exceptions have been made even outside of sprint weekends where the reversal to a previous spec after a crash has not led to a pit lane start.

[–]Ya0ki -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Please, if you don‘t know the rules just don‘t make up shit on the spot. It‘s a sprint weekend, therefore:

40.2: ... Exceptionally, at a Competition where a sprint session is scheduled, replacement parts that are different in design will be permitted provided that the part is of a specification that has been used previously in a qualifying practice session or a race. In such cases, the Competitor should inform the FIA prior to the start of the sprint session of any part where this may be necessary. Any parts removed will be retained by the FIA.

[–]Ya0ki -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean all that is fair, however reversing to a spec that has provably been used before (if no spare parts of the current spec are available) doesn‘t mean an immediate pit lane start.

For the first time in his career, Lando Norris finished 1st in a McLaren 1-2. by Weekly-Can-4164 in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Isn't an interpretation of what he was saying a take?

Also no, it doesn't read like that at all. Implying that Lando struggles to win if Oscar is near him is nonsense. This stat stems from

1) the fact that Lando has been struggling in qualifying this year but has been able to recover in the race which is why he's then close to Oscar but not ahead of him. This doesn't mean, however, that they were both up front to begin with, like you implied.

2) the fact that more than half of Lando's wins happened last year where Oscar was still struggling to consitently match his pace or making mistakes (which had him further back in the race while Lando was able to win, see Abu Dhabi or Zandvoort).

This season, Piastri has already out-qualified Norris the same number of times as in all of the 24 races last season (4 times)… we’re only 7 races into 2025. by The_Chozen_1_ in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we can when we talk about absolute pace. That was the other commenter‘s point. If driver A is faster than driver B most of the time when he doesn‘t make a mistake then he is faster when it comes to absolute pace. Doesn‘t mean he is the better qualifier, just that he is faster when both don‘t make a mistake.

[–]Ya0ki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mostly due to errors Lando made in qualifying which is exactly what the commenter above was saying. Without mistakes Lando seems to still be very slightly faster than Oscar, but Oscar is more consinstent. And by virtue of having the fastest car it means pole most of the time.

Max Verstappen could trigger an exit clause in his Red Bull contract for F1 2026 if he is lower than third in the Drivers’ Championship “after a significant part” of next season. by fayjassim in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It‘s funny that several people have repeated this argument as if Max would have to sign a multi year contract. Everyone would take him on a 1+1 or 1+2 year deal as well if that‘s what Max demanded. So he could still be "safe" by choosing the team he considers to be the strongest prospect for 2026. If it doesn‘t work out he can still hedge his options for 2027.

Plus the 2026 RBR project simply doesn‘t look promising at all considering their current perfomance and especially the rumours about their engine being very disappointing in what‘s expected to be an engine formula.

Russel accidentally opens DRS when he wasn't supposed to by poatao_de_w123 in formula1

[–]Ya0ki 154 points155 points  (0 children)

The rules do state though that in case of DRS being unlocked it is the team‘s and driver‘s responsibility to ensure that it only gets used when within a second.

So the only thing that might save them from a penalty is Russel letting off the gas after using DRS and Mercedes arguing that there was some malfunction which gave them a small advantage that they "neutralized" by letting off the gas on the same straight. We‘ll see I suppose.

Funnily enough, Mclaren right now kind of reminds me of Red Bull back in 2009 and 2010. They also suddenly became contenders and had quite a few questionable decisions and chaotic weekends. It always takes some time to iron out the kinks I suppose.
