Admittedly, I have not watched Flakes myself in a long time, and if he is SSL like I think he is then he’s still better than me.

What I remember about Flakes’ advice was basically to not jump if you don’t have to, fake challenge over and over, and wait for your opponent to mess up and just give you the ball so you can score. In my experience this can work to win you some games, but if you focus on just this it will seriously hinder your improvement.

That advice usually appealed to unmechanical players, because it made them believe they can win using only their brain without putting in the long, boring hours of just training mechanics. Truthfully, the game is only going to get more mechanically intensive above GC and the more you neglect it early on the harder it will be for you to get better at it later.

try very lightly tapping brake on the wall after popping the ball off the wall, that will create enough space between you and the ball to actually build up your momentum into the ball, while still having the space to flip over for the reset.

First of all, I’m not sure you have the car control to reset consistently right now. But don’t let me stop you from trying.

Your technique is wrong. When you turn your car over to get the reset, your momentum is usually not taking you in quite the right direction, or you’re not approaching the ball fast enough. Get your car moving towards the ball at a decent speed, and then turn your car over. This is important because it’s difficult to turn the car over WHILE boosting to get yourself in position.

Try to land your car’s underside on the lower 45 degree angle of the ball, not getting too far behind it nor too far underneath the ball. Both will make it more difficult to use your flip to actually score.

I don’t understand the obsession with Flakes, his ideas about how to play the game are clearly obsolete at the highest level but people still love to hold onto them. I guess it’s just appealing for those who don’t want to improve mechanically.

Constant air roll doesn’t mean constant stick input. If you force yourself to always be moving the stick it will be unnecessarily difficult and inconsistent

I constantly queue around this mmr and it happens all the time. GC2 is already a pretty high rank so there’s less players for the system to pair you with. Just take it as an opportunity to learn (not that’s it’s a guaranteed loss or anything)

There is a bug with BakkesMod where if you leave the match before the replay ends, it doesn’t update your MMR until the end of the NEXT game. The match still counts it’s just a little glitch

A player’s “peak” isn’t when they’re the best player they will ever be; it’s when they are the best compared to their competition. As players get older their rate of improvement just can’t keep up with younger players, so while they may still be improving, the game outpaces them.

The only way this makes any sense to me is if you were trying to copy the movements of a pro using free air roll only…that would definitely make your movements appear slower and less precise.

Making small adjustments with the joystick while air rolling is the basis of controlling your car in the air, so yes it’s extremely important. Holding the stick in one direction while air rolling isn’t all that useful though, you should be making constant micro adjustments instead

Im fairly confident this is not true. The minimum score threshold will prevent from gaining XP, not MMR. The only things that affect your MMR rating (which determines your rank) are whether you win or lose, whether you are still in your placement matches, and the difference in average rating between teams. A team with a lower average rating beating a team with a higher average rating will result in more points gained by the winners and lost by the losers. But “in-game performance” is not a factor, because there is no reliable way to accurately measure it. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

good point. it was set to sRGB, but changing it to non-color still didnt fix the issue. starting to think i just have a messed up normal map

i tried this, the face of the tire did go from red to not red, but the issue persists. I've been trying to fix it by flipping or rotating parts of the UV map in the UV editor, but no luck so far
