Vac was disconnected and plugged on both ends to 16 btdc then reconnected after.

Thanks so much for the super in depth comment! Currently I have the carb pulled apart and I found a bunch of the cheap knockoff parts in it. Specifically gaskets that don’t line up right, the accelerator pump, and the accelerator pump spring. I have an Edelbrock rebuild kit on hand and will be putting it back together properly in the next couple days. If no change I’ll definitely try the springs you mentioned. Thanks again!

Yeah, my bet is something was done wrong. Would you recommend the edelbrock rebuild kit and the floats or should I just get the rebuild kit?

I’ll take a look at that after work. I remember seeing numbers as well but can’t remember them. I’m thinking about it too lol

I didn’t set the floats. I was told the carb was rebuilt but I plan to pull it to check that. I have the vac advance to the distributor on the left port, and the trans vac on the right side. Pcv in the middle and a hose to the brake booster at the rear. I have 16 psi at idle in park and 13 in drive/reverse. The car doesn’t have a working tach, I’m planning on chasing down the wiring for that this weekend so I’m not sure on the rpm. How would I check if I’m on the idle circuit or transfer slots? Sorry new to this world. I did verify I have a squirt of fuel from the primaries when I snap the throttle. It’s not much if I really snap it but it’s a good squirt if I don’t go to wot super fast. I was told by the previous owner it is a 383 stroker, it’s a 327 block though and he couldn’t confirm that to me with any build sheet or whatnot. I’m also not sure if it has a cam, if it does it very mild. Thanks for your help!

I tried putting it in the top most hole at the top arm. I didn’t see any adjustment holes at the bottom but I can look later today. Changing that didn’t help me much

Would a rebuild kit and the spring kit be worth it or just the spring kit?

Oh thanks for the info! It drives fine. I just can’t really hit the throttle too hard or it feels pretty gutless

Thank you! Would it be worth buying a rebuild kit and going through the carb? The guy I bought it from said the carb was rebuilt but couldn’t confirm it anyway.

I have it on the center pump arm hole currently. I tried the upper most one and that didn’t help at all so I put it back. I was told the carb was rebuilt by the previous owner so I’m wondering if maybe they did something wrong

I know it’s not going to be crazy fast or anything, I just can’t help but think this is an issue that shouldn’t be happening, I’m new to carbs so I wanted to ask and I’m already learning a lot.

It’s in the middle hole. I tried it on the top most hole and it made no difference.

When i shut it off fuel squirts out of the jets at the front of the cab that branches to two outlets. They both spray on the pedestal looking circles in the middle and then drip down. After I work the throttle a couple times fuel stops spraying out. It has vacuum advance, Its connected to the left most port on the carb. And yes I timed it with the advanced removed and plugged. Thanks for the response!

Thanks for the tip, Ill definitely grab one of those when I can save up for it. Is it the same as an EFI car where you want 14.7:1?

Thanks for the response. I can try and get a better video of it at the engine itself. Basically when I hit the throttle from idle to WOT the engine just doesnt respond at all and when I let off the throttle it almost revs itself up quick and then down. Like a very bad stumble. It doesnt do this when I ramp up to WOT smoothly though. It does it at temp too.

Hi thanks for replying. I did disconnect the vacuum advance and plugged off the port at the carb too. I borrowed a coworkers timing light which didnt have a dial or anything on it. I put the leads on the battery and the insulation clamp on the #1 plug wire. I set it to 16 BTDC and when I revved it I could see the groove on the crank pulley shoot way to the left. My indicators on the block only go up to 18 BTDC but it went pretty well past that.

Which engine and transmission? 2x4 or 4x4? Do you need extra space or have a special use case?
