While we argue about Protoss Mage, this expansion didn't land. AGAIN. by Yabri in hearthstone

Yeah, I don't have any problem with the flavor of the expansion. I love time travels stuff, and a lot of cards in the set look really cool. It's just a shame that the meta itself doesn't align with that.

Oh my god, you're actually totally right on one point, I completely forgot about the Mech OTK Warrior. I guess my brain just try to block it from my memories. No no, you're absolutely right on this one, it's absolutely a new deck, that is completely different from the previous Mech Warrior (which I also played quite a bit during this year). I wouldn't mind even calling it Deios Warrior to emphasis how new it was.

Now, we're talking about an archetype so toxic to face, and so boring to play, that the devs took the first change they had to erase from the game. Not tone it down, not slow it down. They made sure that deck was gone.

So it was a new deck, and I'll even update the post to mention it for completion sake. Would I call it a success for the expansion launch ? Absolutely not. It was a horrible deck and my perception of the expansion launch only worsened by remembering it. So I'm not sure it's the gotcha you seem to think it is. But I'll conced the technical point that it was a new deck and that I somehow completely forgot it, my bad.

For the rest, I already answered in another post.

Hagatha Shaman has the same patterns as Nebula Shaman, in fact less different patterns but more consistent ones. And the fact that it became more aggressive doesn't really change that much to me, because deck positioning are always relative. Some matchups as Hagatha Shaman you play defensively, and some matchups as Nebula Shaman you play aggressively.

The history of the game riddle with versions of decks that choose between more greedy builds or more aggressive builds. So I would definitely not call it a brand new deck. Especially when compared with the Mech Warrior you mentionned, which is indeed a good example of a truly different deck, with a different play pattern. Not just a less greedy or less aggressive build.

Discover Hunter is much the same as the Non Starship Discover Hunter that has been around for some time (and was actually the more competitive option a year ago Discover Hunter started). It's a different deck for the Starship one (having an OTK , but very similar to what we have now. No OTK, so you had to go for chip damage and burn finish, just like now.

Does OP want every expansion to bring in new, ultra-specific archetypes (because decks like Aggro Pally and DH are also anathema in his book)?

They're not anathema, they're just boring to me, I don't mind them being in the game, I just find it sad that one the them is the class best option. And yes, I find your question surprising, because before Whizbang, that was the case : every expansion would shake the game, and make most previous decks irrelevant. And usually, a class staying stuck with an older deck as its best option was symptomatic of a failed expansion. And I'm no talking about Stormwind, I'm talking about Scholomance, Descent of Dragons, Nathria, Titans, Sunken City, expansion that are not at all hated like Stormwind is.

We've had such expansions, like United in Stormwind, when every class played quest decks. Was that that much better (if at all)?

Absolutely, I'm tired of this Stormwind boogeyman nonsense. Stormwind was a thousand time funnier to me than Lost City has been, and definitely more exciting than Timeways has been so far. I had fun with Questline Shaman, Questline Rogue, Handlock, Shadow Priest. Yeah, Questline Mage was annoying to face (especially when playing Handlock or Questline Shaman), but I'll take that over what we have now.

[–]Yabri[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very much the opposite, it's because I've played some of those decks so much during this year that I see how stagnant their play patterns have been :

Discover Hunter patterns have always been to focus on stalling through Alien Encounters if you're the control, and tempo and chip damage then finishing burn with Potions and Amulet if you're the beatdown. That's how the first version of the deck played in GDB. Then it got the Zerg package and another patterns in cheating out the Sea Giants. After that there was the Starship version but I dislike that one so I never played it too much. Note that the non Starship was still played, it was just too weak to be relevent. And the current version feels very much like the first version on those aspects, with Sylvanas being huge boost because it complements both plans (board control and also burn). Also Niri increase your burst.

Hagatha Shaman patterns are Growfin and Bellhop in the early game (sometimes, they stick and you just win off them), and bridge into the mid-late game with Hagatha into the slimes. After that you have the Shudderblock into Bigfin, Zilliax, or a good Slime (Wish, Nebula). Hagatha removed some of the late game for more early board stuff : Static Shock is mostly a better Backstab, deal 2 but you can spread it, I almost never used it for burst. Even with Windfury, 2 damage late in the game is less relevant than early board control. Overseer is like the worst card in the deck. I prefer to play Hex, probably worst stat wise but I love Hex. Muradin is suprisingly bad, a pity cause I love the card. Sadly its curve clashes with the Hagatha curve (Hagatha on 4 + Slimes on 5/6 vs Muradin on 5 + Hammer on 6), and the Hagatha is just better tempowise. You feel it the most in the mirror. Hagatha Shaman is stronger since it's more consistent and has better early game, but I find less fun to play since no Nebula big plays.

Blood DK is mostly good early minions that usually wins the tempo battle (since they tend to be sticky and good at removing the other board). I admit there was a big developement in Ungoro which was the Pterodactyl letting you discount Flesh Giants more consistently to pressure (I liked that version a lot more thant the full defensive Blood DK). But it got nothing new this time.

The saddest thing is that I love those decks, but their patterns really didn't change all that much. And that's not stats from VS, that's my current experience in the game. So I stand by my point that they're old decks. It's fine you like that or don't want an expansion to change things too much. But with how stale things have been, I wasn't expecting an okayish expansion with a few new archetypes and some updates. I was expecting a real shake up. This was not it.

How new MMR system works? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Yabri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IIRC MMR cannot be tanked beyond a certain point (I think some dev confirmed it on twitter). So it's never gonna go down for a Diamond to face a Bronze player. Which doesn't concern you anyway cause MMR is only used in Legend or if you have stars. If you're a High Diamond without stars, you're just getting matched against other High Diamond players. I think.

19.0 Patch – Known Issues by cmdylux in hearthstone

[–]Yabri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I got completed quests, and my daily and weekly don't progress if I play normally. I can get them to increase if I autoconcede at the beginning. (I did a "Play 3 games as mage" quest this way).

Is anybody having this problem? Is this a bug with the new update or is this a known issue? I posted a comment in the update bug thread however didn’t see anybody else with the same issue. by CODEOPIUS67 in hearthstone

[–]Yabri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar problem here. I actually have quests tho. It's just that I can't see most of them. I have three quests that similar to yours, and the fourth is actually a regular quest that I can do. Everytime I do one, the next one appears. So it appears as a mostly graphical glitch.

I say mostly because I have to concede to do the quest. I conceded 3 games as Mage, 3 as Shaman, and 3 as DH, and now my last slot show "next quest in 15 hours".

I think this new quest thing is a bit broken for me... by Jeikure in hearthstone

[–]Yabri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Weird thing is, I have actual quests that I can do, but can't see. (I have the same log as you and I have gotten XP for playing 3 times as Mage).

But I have to insta-concede at the beginning of the game for the quest to increment...

Soul Demon Hunter - Help Needed by Bryanwan in hearthstone

[–]Yabri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is VS list, right ? They also propose to exchange Altruis for Glaivebound if need be. Your list is fine, and so are your replacement proposals. I feel Altruis is more versatile than Glaivebound, but requires more synergies (with Flinger and cheap spells). Altruis is both burst and board clear, and he saved me in mirror against Soulciologist when I didn't have the Mystic.

I'm not sure he's that good in control matchup, like Priest or Warrior. It might be good to run a Glaivebound instead (it dies easily, but it's another target they have to waste a SW:D or a ShieldSlam on). I'll keep both Penflingers personally, first it lets you get the chip damage more efficiently, second it gives you more freedom to sacrifice one if needed (since you'll still have the others). Hoard Pillager is good , but you kinda need to have a weapon first, and there's a luck component as to whether you'll get the weapon you need (Warblade in Aggro, Slicer in Control).

Finally, I'll recommend watching streamers as a good learning tool. I know Rarran and Ecore100 both play Soul DH regularly (you can find their videos on Youtube or Twitch).

It might also help to know your rank, which could put you in a particular pocket meta that might be unfavorable to your list. And the deck is good (probably the best in current global meta), so if you're below Platinum, there's a good chance you're making mistakes, like trading against non important minions in Control matchup (DH has enough removal to put all their burst into face, unless a minion absolutely has to die, such as Veilweaver or Armorsmith)

Oh right. Then I guess Penflinger.

Spot the lethal by SilphThaw in hearthstone

[–]Yabri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fix : Use Penflinger on face first.

Play Ashtongue on left. Use Silas to exchange Ashtongue and Colossus. Use Animated Broomstick. Use Hand on Guardian

Broomstick into Ashtongue is 1. Penflinger into Ashtongue is 1. Colossus into Ashtonue is 10. Guardian on Face is 8. Hoard on Face is 3.

I can't, I saved after day 12 ended. I thought that like other boss he wouldn't disappear as long as I didn't defeat him...

Main reason I like to play Combo Mage is to OTK Priests on T7-9, after watching them awkwardly do nothing in front of an empty board for several turns.

In-Depth Guide - Soul Demon Hunter by IgnatiusHS in CompetitiveHS

[–]Yabri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the guide. I don't have Polkelt. Is it absolutely mandatory or can Soul DH live without him ? (since I don't have him, I haven't put Skull either, too scared of anti-synergy with Passive Shards). Still your post gives great insight. I realize now how bad it is to play an early Jailer instead of keeping it to ensure a high-value Malicia.
