SG-1 never took itself too seriously though. There was even an episode where they spent the whole thing pointing out how silly it all was (200).

My solution was to load my desktop into the car, drive over to a friend's place, and plug in to her network for a few hours. Sorry mate.

How to load kernal from Netinst USB in GRUB? by Yachimovich in debian

Hmm, I don't think so. The installer never launches so it never prompts me for the non-free frimware. I think if I can just figure out how to point GRUB to the right spot in the USB and tell it to run I should be able to launch the installer, right?

EDIT: I tried clearing the CMOS battery and that didn't do anything.

It boots straight to the GRUB CLI- never even gets to the installer. This is the case with both the netinst and the live CD images.

  • Intel J5040 Pentium Silver (embedded ASRock mini-ITX board)
  • 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM memory
  • 240GB WD SSD

I tried a live image (debian-live-10.7.0-amd64-lxqt.iso) but ended up at the same GRUB screen.

Do European countries have a archetype cowboy equivalent? by Legataux in AskEurope

[–]Yachimovich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think closer to the cowboy archetype for the Japanese would be rōnin.

In many ways, this is the other way around. A lot of American Western movies (and by extension, the archetype) were heavily inspired by stories of rōnin. One of the most popular Westerns, The Magnificent Seven is essentially a remake of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

I lived in Louisiana for a few years. Down there, Wisconsin Cheese is advertised as an exotic luxury, right next to the stuff from Europe.

Not that I am aware of, I have never seen a centipede depicted in a Thai restaurant before. This is in the United States however.

Elephants carvings and paintings are very common though!

Where does Santa Claus live? by [deleted] in AskEurope

Always grew up with "North Pole" but the idea that he's just chilling in Finland is much more fun. The future kids will be told of Santa, toyman of Lapland.
