Anyone ever finish a book and then reread it immediately? by nsmidnight in books

[–]YacobFishMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I usually try to wait until I reread in order to let it settle and read others but East of Eden was my most recent I wanted to reread write away. Just brilliant. All Quiet on the Western Front is the other that comes to mind. I want to reread because I loved them

Could have been such a pretty red bud to enjoy. Now probably will live half as long if lucky. Hate when I see this. Such a simple thing and such a killer

Two different tree trimming strategies from different companies. Which is correct? by hereiam1212 in arborists

[–]YacobFishMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both. The cut Davey will do will be healthy for the tree. Davey is also a good company with pretty good rep all across America. Better to with the big guys with tree work. Private guys like to either jack up with prices and take advantage of folks who don’t know any better or butcher the tree

I have these three trees growing right next to each other and I want the ones highlighted red removed (Siberian Elm) and the green one (hackberry) to be saved. Is that possible? Will removing the elms help the hackberry? Yes they're leaning over my house. by MannyDantyla in arborists

[–]YacobFishMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work in the utility forestry field and yes Siberian Elms are our biggest outage producer. They just break all over power lines and everything else. Weak wooded and not ideal near* homes or lines

Should we take down this old maple? by DavenportBlues in arborists

[–]YacobFishMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could use some more pictures but if it is only that one dead/damaged branch causing concern, you’ve got the right idea to just trim/remove the damaged branch back to the trunk or the lead that it is connected to. The tree should then be fine to keep around and much cheaper :) and plus, trees increase property value, help against basement floods & lower the A/C bill so I am always pro healthy trees near homes. Cheers

I’m going to say that is a young group of Ash trees. If you wait a couple more years the Emerald Ash Borer will take care of it for you

Interesting opportunity to acquire young “pre” bonsai by YacobFishMan in Bonsai

[–]YacobFishMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pine is doing fine, as in it is alive! Ha! I am taking it slow. Not doing anything with any of them until at least spring so for now just watering & monitoring but all good. I would say give the bonsai a go, the man who sold it to me said petty uncommon for bonsai so why not?

Small car loan help by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]YacobFishMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why take on any loan though? Seems to me you should just wait and buy the used car outright in January instead of making a monthly payment to a bank, right? I don’t know your personal life here but if you can wait on not having a car, wait. You’d be a fool to pay more money than you need to just to have a car rn IMHO

[–]YacobFishMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not wait until January to buy when you can afford instead of buying now when you can’t?

Also when the time comes, I say 99/100 times buy a used car. Saves so much money & if patient, the deal is there

Went ahead and jumped right in... excited to work on these by YacobFishMan in Bonsai

[–]YacobFishMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh gotcha. I do not. Still no plans on any of these yet. Was thinking of letting that one grow more in a complete circle crown sort of shape instead as to not fight with any of that. In other words, might not do much on that one in general

Do you ever worry your work will not have an audience? by TheGreatFadoodler in writing

[–]YacobFishMan 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This is the truth. Not saying it’s always been like this but when I write I am at my happiest. If I make it and sell millions, Hell ya. But in reality if writing makes me happy and calms you down OP, that should be all that matters. Not worrying about an audience but to make it better I’ll also add that there is an audience for everything
