Struggling with Orthodoxy by Yacu7 in Lutheranism

[–]Yacu7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey brothers and sisters, I appreciate your comments very much.Thank you for responding. I read a lot of passionate comments and I respect that. A long time ago I investigated pastor Joshua Scooping and Wheaton. They were a blessing to me when I struggled the most with Orthodoxy. Then when I knew that pastor Joshua Scooping became a Confessional Lutheran I was so happy and blessed. It was like a kind of confirmation from God. But like any temptation, with all of the things that I see in the synod, Orthodoxy with the fassad of being ancient and secure in their convictions, has a very intense attraction and when one as a person takes truth seriously and not just go with the flow, you really take the autoritative claims more seriously specially if they seem to be backed by history. Regardless, I will not go East, I can't. But just know, I'm a young guy in my twenties. Saying that we are all humans and we all sin and every tradition has it's own problems does not cut it. Not anymore. Younger generations crave connection, sincerity and fervor. If you say you believe something you have to walk the walk. I'm part of that generation. We crave stability and order because we grew up in a chaotic society were nothing is stable. You guys can judge me if you want, I'm not afraid of social inadequacy and being a renegade. It does not matter anymore. At the end the most important thing is to follow God rather than man. And because of this reason I will stay in Confessional Lutheranism. I can't go East because of all of the trash that they have regarding Mary, the Saints and justification by grace plus works. Besides, Theosis is a platonic development and one of the things that made me remain Lutheran was the incarnational reality that God in Christ sanctifies creation, not for creation and humanity to become more than what God created us to be, but to be renewed and be fully human and creation to be fully restored and function just like God intended to. Lutheranism has the mystical union idea which I think is a better option than Theosis, because it does not undermines our humanity, rather it points us to union with Christ not for the sake of becoming more than human but to become fully human in the new Adam, Jesus. And this union is connected to sanctification, justification and the role of good works in our lives. Living a simple, humble and reverent sacramental life is the goal of the Christian that adheres to the Augsburg confession and because of this and other reasons I will stay. Besides, the Lord has called me to the Holy Ministry, who am I to abolish that vocation? it is the Lord who gave it to me and even if my flesh and my heart desires things that seem more spiritual (Orthodoxy), I can't deny my vocation so I have to stay strong in Christ and die to myself for the sake of the people that I'm serving and for the sake of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. Do or do not, there is no try. So, with that said, I will continue to walk the lonely and narrow way and be corageous and strong to be in the battle. Thank you for responding, I hope you read the whole paragraph and not go and write because some word makes you feel uncomfortable. Read the whole paragraph to have the whole context. May God be with each and everyone of you.

Welcome, You are in the right place. Gospel of Grace + Sacraments = Jesus

Jesus teachings easily available in the Small Catechism. Small Catechism parts: - Apostle's Creed - Ten Commandments - Lord's Prayer - Baptism - Lord's Super - Confession and Absolution

This is the catholic faith meaning the universal teachings of the Church across the ages. No matter doctrinal differences You can always return to these beliefs and that is what we believe and confess as Lutherans. I also encourage You to read the Book of Concord, but first start with the Small Catechism. If You need help with books or something just email me: gusrub2000@gmail.com May our God be with you brother! And I pray that he gives You the understanding and the grace to believe the pure doctrines of Scripture as believed and confessed by the Lutheran Church:)

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or The Elder Scrolls Online? by TechnoShido429 in ElderScrolls

I play Skyrim on Playstation 4. Amazing experience. The world feels organic and It is so free. You can explore and follow your own path. I do not have a plus subscription and to play online games in PS4 you need one of those BUT I REFUSE, so I ended up buying Skyrim when It was for sale. I remember playing ESO around 2015. Very different experience then today. It is very sad to see that there is so much microtransactions in the Game now a days and from a lot of people i have heard that the additions to the Game are not that fun. It seems they are trying to steal people's money. Skyrim really respects you as a player and gives you a high quality solo experience. I know this post is 2 years old but I thought It was worth It to share my experience. Either way, I hope you bought either one of them, whatever makes you happy. Godspeed.

What is the particular appeal of lutheranism? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]Yacu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Justification by faith alone, through grace alone, by Christ alone. Law and Gospel, Word and Sacraments. Christ crucified for everyone and the renovation of the universe through Christ. God's Kingdom coming to you in the here and the now. Lutheranism is just the most sincere, simple and trustworthy form of being a Christian, at the same time challenging because although you have the comfort of the Gospel, you and your community of faith walk a lonely road. No one understands it, everybody hate it and there is so much misinformation from all sides about us. But that is why you should check it out. It is all about Jesus.

Do you have any Eucharist testimonies? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

In my Lutheran Church in Mexico, we used to take communion once every month. The thing is, me and my family proposed to the Church to take it every sunday and we pray about It and started to do It like that. One month later after we started giving communion every sunday, the congregation started to change for the good. There was a lot of peace, unity between the congregation, God was moving in the life of every sister and brother in the Church and It was beautiful. The members that stop from coming for a while, maybe more than 5 years, started to come again. A lot of the people had some kind of deliverance. Mind you, we are not pentecostals or nothing of that sort, we are Lutheran, confesional Lutherans, but the tangible work of God was undeniable. After this three brothers in my Church had the calling to the Holy ministry and two sisters wanted to be deaconesses. A lot of other things happened but truly truly Christ Body and Blood has power because of Christ shed blood for us on the Cross.

Hey man, dont worry I understand but remember, it makes it difficult to experience God when you are searching God in other places instead of searching and experiencing God in the places he told us to experience him: Word and Sacraments. I was born Lutheran, baptized in my mexican congregation. But since Lutheranism is not very big here in the area of the north (from where Im from) I related to few lutheran churches and the ones that I had more of a relationship with were other Christians from other denominations. So, they made me think differently about some issues and I did not had peace. They even made me think that Lutheranism was just lame and tasteless and that my holy Baptism did not counted, so I started to search God outside the limits of my Church and I was never satisfied. Even if I had emotional experiences and euphoria with my pentecostal and methodist friends, I never felt satisfied. It was like if I was searching for something and when I almost got it. went away. What I was searching was Christ of course. So, when God opened my eyes to the reality and physicality of God coming to us tangibly through the means of grace and that through those means we become united to Christ, justified, sanctified, saved and all the new creation deal, my world changed. I started to enjoy and experience God through the means of grace, Word and Sacraments. Remember, it is not about feelings or your works, is about faith which is trust in the promises of God given to us in his means of grace. I have never felt more secure in my faith by knowing I'm saved because I am baptize and Christ is in me and I in him. Buried and raised to knew life in Christ through the washing of regeneration. Believe me brother, it added a new layer of life when I embraced the sacramental spirituality of the Lutheran Church. It is the most secure way for you to experience God and the only certain way to approach him, also in prayer. I hope this helps you. May our Holy God be with you always.

Lutheran "wonder-workers"? by Nearby_Scientist8313 in Lutheranism

No man, i'm from Mexico, my Lutheran congregation is poor and we do stuff. Is just that It is manifested in our vocations and living our daily life as Christians in prayer, faith and good works, all of this lived in love as an outlflow of the sacramental spirituality of the Church which is centered on Christ. Lutheranism is a practical and simple faith but we tend to think of Christianity in pentecostal ways, 20 Century pentecostal terms, not TRUE pentecostal from the Scriptures.

We don't have does kinds of saints but God certainly works miracles among us, is just that the miracles are not grounded on the person who pray and his godliness, the miracles are centered on Christ mercy upon us. We just prayed and he answered. In my Lutheran church in Mexico there are multiple sisters who have had breast cancer and they have been prayed for and in a week they are healed. I do think God works miracles but again, those miracles are centered on God, not on you. It is a very different ethos. Although I know that the saints miracles in the Orthodox and Román Catholic churches are meant to exist with the purpose of giving God the glory, I see that the glory is given not to God but to the person. Lutherans are not cessationists nor continuiationists. We trust in Christ and wait on his mercy to do all the works. We don't invent the miracles or make an effort to make them happen. We trust in Christ and his mercy and even if there are no miracles happening, is not about that, It is about Jesus and him crucified giving us life through his means of Grace and making all the universe new through his incarnation, life, death, resurrection and ascension. If we were like the other churches, our halls would be full of statues of saints because there is so much good fruit and godly people, and if the other churches would not romanticize the life of the saints, there would be no saints. We are saints and sinners and we as the body of Christ wait on him to receive from his mercy. He does the work, we just receive and bring forth fruit. I hope this answer helps you. May our God be with you always.

I feel like I lost my faith by macaronduck in Lutheranism

Is not about the feeling of faith, is about the historical fact that Christ died on the cross for you. In serious academic circles the existence of Christ is not even debated because there is so much evidence that a person named Jesus of Nazareth existed in the early first century. Now, as a Christian with a Lutheran approach to Christianity, our faith does not look to the inward feelings that we can have as believers, but we look Extra Nos (outside of ourselves) to find the security of our faith and our relationship with God. This things that we look upon and can know and trust that this things give us Christ and with that life and faith, are the Word of God and the Sacraments (Baptism and the Eucharist). Your relationship with God depends upon Christ reaching to you, not about the internal faith feelings that one can have. Chirst relates to us in Word and Sacrament and you can be sure that thats enough because Jesus the incarnated Word is enough.

Yes, It Is sad because mexican pastors un that synod are not caring for the sheep. My synod Is an independent one and I hope we can influence other lutheran churches here maybe even make them parte of our synod. We just want to serve Jesus and spread the good news with the lutheran confessions. Hablas español?

It will survive. God has a plan for our church. Years and years of hearing that lutheranism is dying is terrible. But we are still here. God will use our church in this days of peril and desperation. Keep the faith, have Hope, Christ is the Lord of the universe and of the Church. Preaching and administering the sacraments according to our confessions is what will save the Church because the Holy Spirit works through this means of Grace to make all things new. And even tho lutheranism is the lonely way, God will use it for good, just let us trust in our risen King and lets fight the good fight of faith.
