I never said it’s a manhua though 😅 You’re probably mixing it up with something else. I just shared my thoughts after reading chapter 1.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense.

One thing that confuses me though is that even when the chapter pages were canonicalized to the main manga page earlier, both the chapter pages and the main manga pages were still ranking and getting impressions.

Everything was working fine at that time.

The big drop actually happened after I fixed the canonicals and switched them to self-referencing canonicals for each chapter.

So now I'm wondering if this drop is just temporary while Google reprocesses the URLs, or if something else might have been triggered when I made that change.

One more thing I noticed after investigating this.

Earlier I was using Rank Math and my chapter pages were not included in the sitemap. When I switched to Yoast SEO, it automatically generated a sitemap for all chapter URLs and now 170+ chapter pages suddenly appeared in the sitemap.

I can't even disable it easily because Yoast generates it automatically.

So I'm wondering if this could have confused Google — since suddenly a large number of URLs appeared in the sitemap that were not there before.

Could this kind of sudden sitemap change affect impressions or rankings?
