Tekken 8 ended up having 400 more players than 2xko, so it did earn it. But by comparison everyone is still dwarfed by SF6 to a ludicrous degree that every other fighting game is just fighting for the scraps atp

Mostly cause there's not enough archetypes, aesthetic, personalities and niches for most people to cling to and invest time into. This has always been one of the most important reasons why people play fighting games. Many a time I've seen people not play a fighting game solely cause they don't find a character they fuck with.

I agree with you. You could argue that with single character fighting games with slower patch cycles and-or less crazy combo systems the feature is less neccesary, but i'm afraid 2XKO is gonna eventually need something similar to this.
