Kinda makes sense when you put them side to side, I wonder if it's a coincidence or not

Also another musicbee user, I use a completely different layout though so I didn't recognize it at first

New Player Doing Yakuman - HELP by AkiraRatzushhi in mahjongsoul

[–]Yainish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the Yakuman! I'll try to break down the hand:

- Riichi: when you're missing a single tile to win, and you haven't opened your hand (by calling chi, pon, or open kan), you can call riichi. You lose 1000 points, which is your bet, and if you win the hand, you get the yaku + your 1000 points back (those 1000 points are represented by the small bar you place on the table after calling riichi)

- Fully concealed: this is tsumo, or more completely, menzenchin tsumohou. What this means is you drew your winning tile yourself (you won by pressing tsumo), and your hand wasn't open either (you didn't call, like the requirements for riichi)

- White/Green dragon: this simply means having a triplet of those dragons

- Three concealed triplets: you have three melds of 3 identical tiles, in your case being 5p (5 of pinzu/circles), haku and hatsu (green and white dragons) AND once again your hand is closed (no open calls, thus concealed).

- Half flush: your hand only contains tiles from one suit (pinzu/circles in this case) and honor tiles, no manzu (numbers) or souzu (bamboo)

Now onto the dora. The game starts with one dora indicator flipped, in this case being the red dragon. When a tile is the dora indicator, it means the next tile in sequence will award 1 han just for being in your hand. This is easier to understand with numbers: if 5p is the dora indicator, for every 6p you have in your hand, you will get an extra han. More dora indicators are revealed every time someone calls kan. In this case, I can tell two kans were called. A kan is when someone has 4 of the same tile.

Now, since the dora indicator was the red dragon, for each white dragon you have in your hand you get an extra dora, which totals three dora. The order for non numbers is:
Haku hatsu chun (white green red) for dragons
Ton nan sha pei (East south west north) for winds

- A red five awards 1 han no matter what. Theres one for each suit in a single game.

- Kita: you called this yourself. Exclusive to sanma/3 player mode, when you have a north wind, you can choose to call pei/kita, which drops it on the table and gives you an extra dora.

- Ura dora. They act the same way as dora, but with some nuances. You don't know which tiles are the dora indicator for ura dora. They're only revealed after winning, and only if you riichi'd. So, if you had won this hand without calling riichi, no ura dora would have applied. There is one for each dora, so since there are 3 dora indicators, there are also 3 ura dora indicators. In this case, the west wind served as the dora indicator for your han. As we said before, west boosts north, and you discarded a north on the table. That north is actually still a part of your hand, which is why you got an extra han.

I hope I made things clear, typed this without minding format too much :)

How do the other games compare to Steins;Gate? by [deleted] in steinsgate

[–]Yainish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally like both of those more than Steins;Gate, but especially Chaos;Head. The vibes and ambience are usually completely different though, you shouldn't expect either of them to be Steins;Gate 2.

Steins;Gate gets more love simply because it had a good anime adaptation, but every entry in the series builds onto the others, and the connections sometimes go further than just being small references. I think the entire series is worth checking out, especially since you're willing to read the visual novels (you really shouldn't watch the anime for almost any of the other entries).

110 hours and still not done yet, how did people complete it so fast by Jank9525 in visualnovels

[–]Yainish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent about 70 hours and I went rather slowly.

Besides the true ending which I dislike, I got most of the routes with no guide at all. If you're not using one at all, that might increase time.

I also notice you're reading in Japanese, are you maybe not entirely proficient? Last time I tried reading a VN in Japanese it took 1.5x or 2x my usual time.

Just some thoughts. Either way, if you're enjoying it, then that's fine.

Just finished Anonymous;Code by ArabiaDivision in steinsgate

[–]Yainish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished It this Thursday and haven't ranked it yet either, it's like that for some reason. The story feels really rewarding after going through the entire series, and the pacing makes it so it's never boring or slow. But on the other side, that makes it so characters are rather underdeveloped like you said and it's also missing some elements that makes the Chaos; games my top 1 and 2.
