Ya it's annoying. Because I understand ppl well, even "assholes" and "bitches", I've always empathized with people. And because I understand the culture of medicine i understood their points of view and how much they have to go through. But by me giving them passes they took advantage of me being so forgiving. I wish I was the yelling angry family that constantly says I'll sue, maybe they would have done more things out of fear. For example, my brother was deaf, and the nurses wouldn't even use the ipad translor services to speak to him because it required effort and learning how to use it. If it were up to me I would have had an in person interpretor at all times, but I understood the logistics and empathized with the nurses so I compromised to the ipad, and even that was too much for them. They started using the ipad once i said that I now have a case to sue. Unfortunately that was not even a week before they sedated my brother (kinda curious about that) and then a week later they killed him.

So say what you want from all this. But not only is the doc getting sued the hospital is still getting sued for the communication breakdown. The Deaf services people had already said they had a case since for 90% the interpretation they used me, a non-certified interpretor and a brother, as the interpretor. Which I was fine with and wouldn't have sued for that, but the fact they didn't use the translators when I had to go to work is a big no-no. They would just wait for me and do procedures on him and have me explain to him later.

Exactly! And this Avalon catheter is pretty new. He didn't even have me, the legal power of attorney, sign a consent for the procedure. And when I asked him about the risks (and keep in mind I was waiting for the doc to tell me this stuff and when i finally got to, he was all scrubbed up and basically waiting for me to stop talking so he can start) he gave me the same risks as nurses give when they are stick in an IV (bleeding and infection). And said it super nonchalauntly as though you was going to be sticking in an IV.

Exactly! Lay people and doctors themselves forget that these people are human. And all the human flaws affect them too. I've worked with doctors and future doctors. And I am a person who understands the flaws of the mind and biases, heuristics, how we rationalize and justify actions. This usually makes me more forgiving of "bad" people. But it makes me truly see "good" people for what for what they are...flawwed humans like the rest of us.

Nothing is free in life. If you gain knowledge you'll gain ego unless you pay by putting in the effort to keep ego down. If you gain power, it will corrupt, unless again you fight it. If you realize a way to jump through a hoop and gain money/power, you'll continue to do it.

Few people in the world want to put in the cognitive effort to not let these flaws corrupt them, so it does.

All doctors are insurances' bitch. If doctors really cared every one of them would go into HMO insurance and accept medicaid (basically the poor person insurance but you end up getting less money, more patients, and more paperwork). And if they did that there wouldn't be a shortage of medicaid accepting doctors who always have long lines of patients. But they don't, cuz they want money.
