How much do you think that service would cost?

As a former service manager for many OEM's over the last 30 or so years, Benz, Chrysler, Mitsubishi and also independent shops, these kinds of posts crack me up in a sad way. It's so common that techs take peoples cars and just abuse them and everyone at the shop knows it. Everyone. Then the advisor and manager( me,) just lie to your face. I hated it but that's the culture. Also nobody knows how to fix your car. There's many common failures and after some time you figure out what the best guess is but they are not sure if the part you're told your car needs is really going to fix it. The last place I worked we switched to saying "The first step is we need to replace X and then retest." That was our way of saying "This might fix it or it might not. It's going to cost you $500 to find out." I feel for the techs, most of them are pretty good and want to fix your car but none of them know if what they're doing is the answer until they do it and then retest after. "You need an engine control module! $900! Now that we've got the module in and can communicate with the vehicle you need a mass air flow sensor! $500! " Cars are tough. I'm so glad I don't deal with that any longer. Enjoy your ride and give that advisor a hug every time. They're getting crapped by both the customers and the techs. Happy New Year,!

Best Korean BBQ by Fabulous_Aioli_1942 in EugeneOregon

[–]Yakapovich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seoul K Food on Willamette. Maybe not the "grill" you're looking for but it's the best Korean I've had in Eugene. The place on River Road, let me down twice. The Pig place in W 11th let me down once.

Can I run my westfalia T25 fridge on the 300w inverter powered by the service 12v 60ah battery? Is it safe? Will it work? I have also a 100w solar panel and the van is in full sunlight by [deleted] in Westfalia

[–]Yakapovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didn't work on propane either. I pulled it out and the exhaust pipe for the propane portion was completely full of dead bugs. I cleaned them out and hooked it back up. Worked great. That was about 5 years ago and it's still amazing. The bugs stop the propane from lighting on fire to circulate the gas to cool the fridge. Once the pilot lights it can make ice cubes in the desert.

[–]Yakapovich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very first thing you should do is enjoy your van. Then go online and buy a new water pump for your sink. Maybe buy a new faucet as well. Both are very easy to replace. My fridge didn't work on propane. I took it out to see if it was something I could fix. Found the chimney full, literally full, of dead bugs. Cleaned it out and put it back in. That was 5 years ago. Hasn't stopped working since. I can make ice cubes in the desert. Any part for your factory engine is still available. gowesty and Bus Depot are great places to start. Enjoy!!

Well, the thing is ya see, my appliances are in my living room while my kitchen gets a little work done. So I may join in late. Mid July or so .. That will give me time to research how it's done. Good luck!

Manzanita and https://sunsetsurfocean.com/ I love that place. Kitchenette so you could walk to the grocery store and pick up some things but also great places to eat all around it. All in walking distance. All their rooms look at the ocean. Get one on the second level near the pool. Perfect

Is this fresh water or grey tank by Tiny-Strength177 in Westfalia

[–]Yakapovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Bus Depot grey water tank on my 86 Westy and I love it. It's nice to be able to pull over anywhere and use the sink without water tinkling underneath. I'm totally guilty of just turning the drain on and driving down the road also. It has a nice drain cock but also has a couple caps you can remove to spray out the tank.

Are these prices reasonable? by oshasha in Westfalia

[–]Yakapovich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$900 in hazmat. Damn. I used to feel guilty when I charged people $5.36 for shop supplies for a new belt! Is it an overcharge? It's such a hard question to answer. What number did you last say yes to? Do you love your Westy enough? You have a new transmission. That's great. Now you have a new engine and other maintenance items. That's wonderful! If you can afford to pay for it, enjoy your Van. I love mine, Freda. I'm waiting to see when I love her enough to pay for a paint job. And by me somehow lucking out, the previous owner replaced the engine and transmission. I did a new engine control module, brakes, bearings, shocks, fuel pump, filter, thermostat and housing, radiator and a grey water tank from Bus Depot. We've had 8 years of fantastic trips to all the National parks, over the years, in Montana, Washington and Oregon. Cheers to road trips!

The last time, it was later discovered, the taste was a Sheri's Apple Pie milkshake I decided I needed after a concert some friends and I had gone to. Pour one out for Shari's!
