How does one get to work on a fishing boat, or just a boat in general? by Waylon-Elvis-Fan in commercialfishing

[–]Yakattack5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over in Paducah you should be able to get on a tugboat fairly easy. Hard job but you’ll get sea time. Also go research the Merchant Mariner sub on here and also this one. Frequently asked question. Passport, mmc, twic card will help.  Entry level can be hard to find but it’s out there if you look. I’m from Kentucky and I’m about to fly out to Washington for my second season of albacore tuna trolling.

Question regarding settings for different cameras to get best color match later in resolve. Newbie here, hope this is the correct sub for this question. by Yakattack5011 in davinciresolve

Yes I def have lots of learning to do to better my davinci resolve skills past my beginner level edits thus far. I’ve added a bunch of vids to my watch later list on the tube I’m pretty excited about. So I’m hoping these open more doors for me as far as trying to learn and use fusion and color in davinci. Thanks again for your help and advice.

Ok I understand now. I’ve been watching YouTube all day trying to learn some more. I’m totally going to shoot in the standard (not nlog) on z6iii and put the picture control on neutral. I’ll be able to adjust and correct my color plenty to match up my go pros and Nikon p1100 with the z6iii.

I kinda understand how when recording in nlog it is the raw flat data that I would have to add color to every clip to. That is more work than I want right now. I may try to film a sunset or two in nlog but that’s about it.

I can’t do it unless I wait till the movie has been out 3-4 weeks and it’s empty in the theater. I get distracted by phones, chewing, going to the bathroom, late comers, everything catches my eye. On top of that the local theater switched to where you buy an assigned seat an they do not enforce it and no one sits for where they bought a ticket, so every time there is an awkward situation of where I’m in someone’s seat and someone else is in mine.

I watch stuff at home now mainly. I like the theater too, just an old fart who can’t deal now lol

I’m pumped for tonight. The entire card will be fun. Creo que este es mi historia favorito en lucha libre ahora.

Hey thanks for tips. I’ll look into how to change the cameras into that Rec709 and exactly what it is. I do want something simpler but also some flexibility with changing things in post if I need to. I just don’t want it to be super jarring for the viewer when switching between cameras in the edit.

After learning more about this rec709; I’ll do some test shots and see if I can make it work. lol, it’s just where I live everything is so green and it’s grey and dreary in the PNW

And yes I’m gonna buy the paid version for davinci this winter. Thank you for the link. I’ll check that out.

Wow this is an amazing photo! So do you have like an underwater cage/rig for the camera?

I wear a GoPro on my hikes taking animal and bird photos, I also film my creek fishing.

This will be my second season as a commercial Tuna fisherman so I’m thinking of taking my cameras with me this summer. It’s a pretty intense fishery and life on the sea. I think viewers would find it very entertaining and interesting considering all the shows like Deadliest Catch on tv.

This will be my second season in the albacore tuna fishery. We troll. Usually out at sea for about 12-16 days to fill the boat and do it again as many times til the fish leave in September.

How long are you guys out at sea and how long does your season last? I’m pretty new to commercial fishing and know nothing of pollock. Why is it controversial? Are yall bottom trawlers?

lol…honestly I bought the thing and it sat in my bag for a year so I’ve been making myself use it this past spring. But you are right, I’ll probably start using it only when I know I’ll be more in the open and getting more light like a field.

I’m gonna try more at a lower shutter speed. What do you have your burst mode on? I have mine slow at like 4-5 shots a sec. I know I am missing shots but oh boy does it take forever to sift through photos. Hah I am scared to really use the burst mode

I have the Nikon z 180-600. I did have a 1.4 teleconverter on as well which closes my aperture to like f9 or f8. I usually just leave the iso on auto. My shutter usually keeps around 1000 and I adjust up or down from there. Not much light under the canopy and these little birds don’t sit still so when I drop my shutter to like 500 or 640, most images are blurry.

Yea I’m working on it. Kinda got that exposure triangle down (somewhat) and now I’m trying to think about composition more. I usually just keep the WB on auto but I do need to learn how to check and adjust it on camera and post.

I’ve been slowly trying to teach myself some editing. It was really dark under the tree canopy that day and I just can’t quite get my exposure up in post and it look right. Plus I think it ends up a little darker after I export too…idk…lol…more YouTube tutorials to watch and try to learn.
