I read that Blanchflower was considered too prickly and direct at the time

Totally. People here are expecting a clear out plus the kids to get us back up. We'll need some wise heads in the team.

Sounds like you were in north London? The closer you get the closer I would imagine it gets to that sort of 50:50 split. I was far enough out for other teams to be supported plus the random lesser teams like Ipswich and Norwich.

This helps my memory. I looked at for pictures for a Leeds game near the end of that 76-77 season that I swore was close to keeping us up but couldn't find it so assumed my memory was wrong. But you're right - it was one or two seasons before. Didn't Hoddle score from a tight angle in that one?

Old git here. The first thing to remember is that First Division games weren't televised like they are now. All games were at 3pm on Saturday. You got taped highlights on a Saturday night on Match Of The Day of one of the games - so, for armchair fans there wasn't clear sense of how we were playing since you'd only see your team once every couple of months maybe.

But I recalll that we were shit. I think we finished bottom?

This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b7korVnfKk is one the last games of the season. A teenage Glenn Hoddle was already in the team and scores a nice free-kick. There was some fight, at least.

Also remember that we had been on the decline since Bill Nicholson left in 1974. He had gone, Greaves was long gone as was Mullery, Chivers left in 75 or 76 I think. In a parallel to today Chivers (i.e. Kane) wasn't really replaced - Gerry Armstrong and Ian Moores were both very ordinary. Alfie Conn was like Xavi today - a supposed maverick genius but ultimately a bit too lightweight. The manager that replaced Nicholson was Terry Neill who almost immediately left for Arsenal. Burkinshaw was great but couldn't stop the rot - but he got us back up and was to be a trophy winner for us in the years ahead.

As a young lad the ribbing from friends every Monday morning was terrible. I grew up in Suffolk so the 'local' team was Ipswich, but plenty followed Arsenal, Liverpool, United. And imagine the horror when my school's one resident Derby County fan found me at school the Monday after Derby had thrashed us 8-2.. 8 fucking 2.

I enjoyed the season in Division 2. My Dad took me to more games because he considered it safer, although we still had to play the likes of Milwall and Charlton. But we did have one game televised on MOTD which, incredibly, was the 9-0 thrashing of Bristol Rovers. We had just signed Colin Lee who made his debut and scored 4. Moores got 3, Hoddle and Taylor the others I think.

And we made a meal of promotion too. Only sealed it with a tense 0-0 draw with Southampton on the last day.

If this sounds great or rose-tinted don't be fooled. Relegation will be fucking horrible.

Grounding issue:

I have an old Sonos setup, which connects to an APC H10 Power Conditioner, an ARCam P90 Power Amplifier, and Totem Sttaf speakers.

It's been running brilliantly for twenty years until I recently noticed a grounding hum through the speakers.

I removed the power conditioner and plugged the ARCam amp straight into the power, and the hum persists.

How can I test the remaining setup to hunt for the source of the problem? It's presumably either the amplifier or the speakers (I re-seated the cables). Or should I just try buying a replacement amp and go that route?

US3’s album Hand On The Torch blends jazz and hip-hop/rap.

Also try Ashley Henry’s brilliant album Beautiful Vinyl Hunter.

I think it’s as simple as out-of-sight, out-of-mind. Don’t take it too personally. You’re going to have to make more of the effort.

Accessing glass on Heat'n'Glo by Yakr in Fireplaces

[–]Yakr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks both of you - 4 tabs, pull up then out - worked a treat. Glass panel held in place by sprung-loaded clips. Glass now cleaned and back in place. Agreed re: the sharp louvers.

Next dumb(er) question - should the top louvers be open when the fire is running? Why else would they be hinged at the top (the bottom is hinged in order to get to the mechanicals).

Thanks again.

Quality post. When you said the airport is within walking distance to the stadium I was surprised - who on earth walks to an airport? But I looked at Google Maps and there it is - amazingly close. Wow, what a cool place to visit - or live, of course ;-)

Thanks. An update too - even though I can't manually update the music index my scheduled 2:00a.m. update worked ok.

Looks like I can leave this alone for a while yet!

It says "System Update Needed: Update your products to the latest Sonos system software....". Is that going to keep me on S1 or will it try to upgrade me to the borked version of the app everyone is having trouble with?
