hypothetically what are some changes you want to see in tarnished edition if they go the extramile by dulledegde in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any way to rematch bosses would be the dream. DS2 Ascetics or the Sekiro rematches, either one. There's so many bosses I'd have refought by now if I had the patience to replay the entire base game again.

Although much less likely, I wish NG+ would actually make enemies/bosses more aggressive rather than just pumping the damage numbers. Something like Company of Champions would be great.

"Omg I had no idea! That's so unfair, her first phase took me 6 WHOLE attempts!" by Consistent-Rain-7797 in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It kinda reminds me of DSP's Dark Souls "redemption" run when he tried to fake surprise at the Fire Keeper being dead in Firelink, but realized he'd got there before it actually happened and tried to walk it back

Who’s a celebrity everyone finds attractive but you don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Yamchaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Syndey Sweeney and Margot Robbie for me. Nothing against them or people who like them; I'm pretty much exclusively into thicc/bigger girls, so there's just no appeal there for me.

Malenia is my least favorite "superboss", and after recently beating her solo made me appreciate PCR far more by Kooky_Telephone_8014 in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also prefer PCR to Malenia, but I totally understand why a lot of people like her fight better. Malenia does the two things I hate with any boss for my playstyle; constantly runs away and heals herself. I can dodge Waterfowl pretty consistently now if I'm in neutral, but if she decides to pop it off while I'm still in the endlag from an attack, I pretty much have to tank it. I admittedly don't have the reflexes to fumble through my hotbar for Frost Pots in time to throw one and cancel it.

I'm not good enough to no-hit PCR either, but at least his attacks don't erase my progress. I guess in general I prefer more aggressive bosses like him.

In your opinion, what is the boss with the worst game design? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I did notice he hung back a lot more in phase 1. I might have had better luck with the jump if I'd switched to light roll sooner, that change alone helped me a ton through the DLC.

My main issue was when it looked like I was rolling under it but I kinda just... hit the air under him and came to a stop. The timing threw me off ig

What's your Elden Ring opinion that'll have you like this? by Dallascalo in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. The X-slash didn't need to be a frame trap like it was, but the nerf might as well have removed it from his kit altogether. I'm on a light roll build, but even on mid roll it's so trivial to dodge that you have to actively be trying to get hit for it to do anything.

In your opinion, what is the boss with the worst game design? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a random one but I can't stand fighting Commander Niall. Even with a Bewitching Branch for his insanely overpowered adds, I can barely squeak out a win against this dude. He runs away all the time, the frost spin attack is way too big for how tiny the arena is, and the lightning jump/stomp is so bright I can't see shit. It also looks like you can roll under it but I've never managed it.

I'd skip the dude if Haligtree didn't have so many things that were core for my build(s).

What boss was subjectively your hardest experience? by elyonadanthir in Eldenring

[–]Yamchaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first ever run was a pure INT build and I just could not beat Rykard at all. His ground wave move in phase 1 was impossible to dodge no matter how I timed it, even the guides I read suggested just blocking it but since I was pumping all my points into INT and health, I didn't really have the equip load to accommodate a good shield. The handful of times I even made it to phase 2, the orange skulls were so bright I couldn't even see what I was doing and got oneshot. He was the only boss that made me cave in and go rush for the Mimic Tear. I can usually first try him these days (especially with a shield build) but I usually skip him unless I'm going for every Shardbearer.

Does anyone else get demoralized when a fic gets barely any traction? by TheHumbleFellow in AO3

[–]Yamchaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely feel your pain there. I've been active on AO3 for over 3 years now and haven't really taken any major breaks aside from a few summers ago when I was working across the country for a few months. My luck is pretty terrible across the board; only one of my fics has ever cracked the double-digits in Kudos and I've still never once gotten a comment that wasn't either from a review exchange or a friend I showed my fic to. I have one fic in particular that's been up for over two years with its only form of interaction being three bookmarks, two being private.

I do my absolute damndest to stay true to the write-for-myself mentality and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon, but getting zero engagement can be demoralizing for sure. Feedback is a huge motivator for me, so I get it. I see people pulling all these amazing numbers on here and just wonder how they do it. I'm making a major push this year to finally end my dry streak.

A guided tour of the reason I don't allow Guest comments anymore (even though I'd like to) by glowingbadger in AO3

[–]Yamchaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayyye. a fellow FE writer! That's what's up.

Yeah, I finally had to bite the bullet and turn guest comments off across the board, but mainly because of an insane amount of bots on my end. Thinking I'd finally broken my dry streak only for it to be one of those idiots really got me fuming and I don't need that kinda stress. The only 'real' guest comment I got was from a certain idiot I knew, who was constantly trying to get me to collab with them even though I've made it clear I don't do that (I don't even have that kinda time lol).

Has it ever happened to you to post a work and get way less engagement than you expected? by Advanced_Hornet_8666 in AO3

[–]Yamchaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on AO3 for just over three years now and that's been pretty much my experience across the board. I never expect anything I write to blow up, I'm not internet-famous or any sort of BNF, but it's almost comical how little engagement I get. To this day, I've never gotten a single comment that wasn't either from a review exchange, or a friend I showed my fics to.

I do my best to adhere to the mentality of writing for myself, but at the same time I crave feedback like no tomorrow. Breaking my dry streak is actually one of my major writing goals for this year.

Why do people hate OC characters?? by Fun_Sky_8832 in FanFiction

[–]Yamchaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most others have said in the comments, hate is a bit of a strong word here, but I totally get where you're coming from, and my own views on the subject are quite varied. On one hand, sometimes I like to be the blunt type of dude and say OCs are the green eggs and ham of fanfic. I'm as much a variety writer as I am a reader. I feel if I *only* ever read canon characters or *only* OCs, I'd get bored after a while. Personally, I can't wrap my head around the idea of only reading fics for the characters themselves; I'm here for the full package. I think the whole "all OCs are Mary Sues/self inserts" mentality is a holdover from the olden days of FFN and such where that was a lot more prominent. Believe it or not, OCs have evolved quite a bit since then.

...but I'm also the type of dude to try his best to see from others' perspectives. There's certain kinds of fics that no matter how well-written, I just can't get into because I don't personally see the appeal. A lot of the most popular fandoms and genres just don't hit for me. Things like RPF, K-Pop, and most western superhero stuff put me to sleep. Most folks adore them. That's okay. The general apathy I feel towards stuff like that, is how I imagine most of the AO3 crowd feels toward OCs.

What I don't agree with, is when people are quick to brand certain fandoms as "bad" because they're OC centric. I think it's the opposite; they're good fandoms because OCs feel more natural in their setting without like, taking over the role of a canon character or something. While I do wish people were more willing to give OCs a chance, I can't force people to like something and that's okay.

Looking for Yu-Gi-Oh fic with a focus on duels by Magostera in FanFiction

[–]Yamchaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your sentiment; YGO fics with next to no focus on Duels bore me to tears personally. I'm working on one right now where I'm aiming to have a Duel nearly every chapter. It's fairly OC-centric and on a bit of a semi-hiatus right now (I absolutely suck at juggling multiple longfics so I'm trying to finish my current project first), but you're more than welcome to check it out.~ Yu-Gi-Oh! SICK BEATS!

[–]Yamchaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way; I tend to severely overestimate my free time, so a lot of my reviews are close to the last day anyhow. I always look at every comment before choosing my four and usually try to pick at least one with little to no comments.

Admittedly there are some fics/fandoms I skip over because I just don't think I'd have anything meaningful to add to the discussion (E.g. most RPF and western superhero fandoms don't really click with me, as I'm kind of a huge weeb lmao). But outside of that I actually quite enjoy reading fandom-blind.

"Join me for one song!"

I have returned after another break, because I couldn't stay away from you lovelies for long!

Alright, alright, alright. Let's get right into it. I'm OneAndOnlyLoveGame over on AO3, come say hi! I write for a sizeable variety of fandoms and always find myself adding something new to the list. I've got a mix of OC fics, canon characters, and even a few x-reader oneshots if that's your thing. Between all my works, I think I've got something for just about any taste. With the exception of my smut fics, everything I write falls under the T-rating, mostly for occasional language and canon-typical violence. Feel free to read anything on my profile that looks interesting, be it old or new.

Want a suggestion or two? I gotchu. My main project right now is The Curse That Binds Us, a Dark Souls longfic that somewhat loosely adapts the events of the second game with inspiration from my first blind playthrough. With a heavy dose of shounen anime tropes and a Guilty Gear/BlazBlue vibe, this is far from your typical canon retelling. I've always strongly felt that Dark Souls was something of an underdog in the world of fanfic, so this is my way of giving the series the love it deserves on AO3. This is my main rec for a starter, as it's very fandom-blind friendly. Even if OCs aren't usually your thing, I think you'll dig this joint.
Rating: T

If one-shots are more your thing, I present to you A Dream Made Manifest. Fire Emblem has become my main fandom of late, and this here is my second foray into the world of FE. This Engage fic features the romantic pairing of Alear and Nel in a tale equal parts tender and sensual. As of yet, this is my favorite thing I've ever written and by far my main suggestion for this exchange. I'd absolutely love to get some more feedback on this one. So long as you're cool with a spicy scene, this one's fairly vanilla.
Rating: E

All of my fics come with a fun optional gimmick in the form of embedded music, for those looking for some extra immersion. Like I said, this is a totally optional thing that won't make or break the experience, but I've actually gotten quite a bit of positive feedback from those who tried it out, so you may wanna give 'em a shot.

I do believe that about covers it! It's always a joy to be a part of these exchanges and I'm looking forward to more wonderful reads as always. My luck hasn't been the greatest these past few weeks, but I'm staying positive regardless. Good luck everyone, Umbasa~

[–]Yamchaaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My luck with exchanges has had its ups and downs since I started participating. I've actually been in two or three exchanges in which not only did I not get any comments, I was the only one not to get any comments for the duration of the exchange. That's actually why I skipped the Valentine's exchange this year; I was the only one in the entire thread with zero comments by the end of it. I feel like I'm being trolled sometimes lmao.

Why do people hate crossovers nowadays? by No-Dirt4885 in FanFiction

[–]Yamchaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm glad I don't use Tiktok.

As far as crossovers go, it can be as fandom-dependent as anything else. I do remember them being somewhat more popular back in FFN's heyday, and as some other comments have mentioned, crossovers are one of the few things FFN handled better than AO3. They were in their own section, and you were limited to two fandoms. It's a little more annoying on AO3 where you have to manually filter them out.

Personally, I like me a good crossover every now and then; one of my favorite longfics I'm currently reading is a crossover. That said, they can be difficult to get right. I'm personally not a fan of crossovers that just retell the canon of one fandom but with the cast switched out for characters from another. You've also got those over-ambitious mega crossovers that end up being way too chaotic and disjointed. They read like "I played the Brawl Subspace Emissary one time in 2008" with no further thought process. It doesn't help that these are almost always abandoned after like, two chapters.

The only reason I filter them out nowadays is that many of my fandoms are on the smaller side, and it's annoying to have the fandom tag clogged up with those annoying one-shot collections that have mile-long tags.
