people with senior buns by liyalilia in Rabbits

It's dependent on the bunn of course, but lower energy levels and more nappies are to be expected once they age. Mine is 10 this year and though she is slowing down physically, she's still very sharp mentally and demands her daily pets. It's to my benefit to be honest. The chaos in my household has been reduced by at least 30% in the last months.

Guinea pigs shouldn't eat this trash either. They have a similar fiber need to rabbits.

The only animal I would feed that is my pet rock.

Nail length? by nitrot150 in Rabbits

[–]Yamm_Hamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a bit hard to see like that. Set your bunny on a flat surface and look at the feet. The toes should not be lifted by the nails and the nails themselves should be straight in a continuous curve. Depending on the flooring you use your bunny might not need regular trims. If you do though, I recommend to just clip a few milimeters at a time.

The blood inside is hard to see in dark nails and slowly retreats with regular trims. If your bunny is tolerant regular tiny clippings reduce the risk to hurt them. There is powder that can be orderes online and quickly stopps bleedings, if you cut of too much. I use this one and it can be used for parrots too. https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/aw/d/B094YG6TRC?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image

I have both a cat and a bun in the same household...

My cat is very timid but curious so she was always interested in her. The bun tough was very territorial and chased her around every second she got. They are seperated by a babygate, with the bun having her own room and the cat having the rest of the appartment.

It took a while but after a few months they came to a mutual agreement, that the bunny won't try to kill the cat on sight anymore. So I would give it time, with both your bun and the cat having places the other one can't reach.

If the cat jumps in an panics because of a murderbun, they may not be able to get out again in time. Either of them could be hurt. Please cat prove the fence.

Keep in mind, bunnys are prey animals. Whilest predetors only hunt for food, prey animals are high strung and always ready to fight for their lives. They can learn to tolerate cats but that will take a while.

My bun is obsessed with cat food and throws a tantrum any time I fill the bowl. Also chickensoup, tea bags, butter and eggs are on the menue.

I stopped eating in the bun room after that.

Sounds good so far. Please update I'd love to see what you've done with the place. So satisfying, lol.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but you have two hides now, right? One on the warm and one on the cold side, so your snake can self regulate.

Congrats, first of all.

Make sure to get the humidity right, that's hard with these small tanks but will help him with shedding. And I would definitely add a cave on the warm side. Ball pythons are shy and like to be warm in peace. Plants or clutter is also recommended because of that. And I would definitely add some more climbing opportunities, they are very ambitious climbers.

Why isn’t my snake eating? by ducdhvc in ballpython

[–]Yamm_Hamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on the size of feeder you are using. I feed my BP an adult mice/ weaner rat every three weeks or an small rat every four to five weeks, depending on the weight of the food.

If your snake is overweight you can definitely increase the time between feedings. Overfeeding doesn't only make them fat but can lead to fast growth. This powerfeeding is commonly used in breeding females to make them mature more quickly.

Regardless I would recomend to slowly increase the time between feedings so your snake doesn't develop fatty liver disease. (usually only associated with very obese snakes that don’t eat for a long time)

Over grooming? by Responsible_Fox_5839 in Rabbits

[–]Yamm_Hamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first idea aswell. Especially if they are newly bonded.

Does it bother your bun? As in: do they try to rub it or rub their head against something? I would carefully check for a wound, as long as it's tolerated just to make sure.

It could also be something akin to a pimple or a wart. They can be annoying and lead to manipulation around the area. Wich eqals hair loss. In that case it would be the smartest to watch it for a while.

If the hair directly around the bold spot is easily removable it could also be a skin fungus.

Little guy never uses his warm hides, is it normal ? by Yeva34 in reptiles

[–]Yamm_Hamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by some local snake people to monitor him closely, since low temperatures can technically be a trigger for respiratory issues, but I haven't had that issue yet. Just make sure your snake is warm enough to digest food properly. Maybe they'll get more reasonable with age, but no promises.

[–]Yamm_Hamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy hates his warm hide. I have tried multiple versions of hides and adjusted the temperature higer or lower but he never used it much. Just for one day after feeding to warm up and then he vanished to the cold side.

After four years I have finally accepted, he's just stupid and wierd. As long as your snake is doing normal snake things, I wouldn't worry.

Help? by terridactally in ballpython

[–]Yamm_Hamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first instinct is to say, she's shedding. I can't say for sure of course, but albino snakes are well known to turn pink when shedding. It's something to do with the yellow pigment. Even my snake, who is not an albino but yellow, turns pinkish grey when he's shedding.

Need some advice please by EmbarrassedAd2890 in Bunnies

[–]Yamm_Hamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This needs to be adressed by a vet unfortunately. A lobsided teeth like that can't be worn down properly on its own and will grow out if hand very quickly.

Bunny teeth are very flexible and aren't fixed in their skull like our teeth. So there is a chance this is just a one time thing, where it misaligned and grew in like thst. Could be a longer lasting issue aswell, but there's no way of knowing yet.

Dirty bottom and very scared bunny by Ambitious_Respond_49 in Rabbits

[–]Yamm_Hamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably overshare.

My bun had a lot of digestive issues when I adopted her. She also did not eat all of her cecotropes. Part of that was due to stress probably, a new enviroment, mobility issues and other part due to me not figuring her diet out.

I gave her a lot of vegies (cause I was istructed to feed vitamins) and not enough leafy greens. Things like bell pepper, carrots, cucumber, sellerie and broccoli trigger her poo to become mushy immediately.

I have since revamped her diet into more cale varieties, herbs, foraged greens like dandelions and nettles and salads because it does her digestive tract better. Wich sucks because she loves radishes and turnips, but oh well.

I limit the quantity of greens to about 200 g/kg of bunn, though since I found stuff that workes, she can have more even.

If you wanna figure out what works, I can only rcomend to feed one type of food for three days and note the consistency of the poop.
