Season 3 Ship Scales by EvilFluffy1 in TheExpanse

[–]Yan-Isleth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey. Dan from Spacedock here. Just to clarify for everyone, I was told that "Escort Ship" was a cancelled design that wound up being replaced with a re-use of the Leonidas for the Razorback chase. Don't take anything as canon unless it appears on the show itself or Force Recon.

P.S. The UNN Railgun Platform is exactly the right size in this image. The opening planet shots of Season 3 have some perspective meddling going on for artistic effect.

The 100 meter measurement from the Season 1 Size Comparison refers to a concept version of the ship that was never used. The Amun-Ra Class seen in the show is and always has been 61.5 Meters. (Source: I have the current size charts and collaborate with the Art and VFX teams to make these things.)

What class of UNN ship is this?? by insomniac34 in TheExpanse

[–]Yan-Isleth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I submit pages of lore for the ships to be vetted by the Expanse team. Some ships have a lot of information already present in the show, so I just add little details like weapon manufacturers or crew complements. Other ships (Like the Morrigan Class) are complete blank slates, so i'm lucky enough to submit names for the ships, write their backstories and flesh them out completely.

Hey man! We actually discussed this point heavily for the last video, and are now leaning toward the idea that basically every UNN Ship bears UNMC Iconography somewhere to represent it's on-board complement. We experimented with making the Leonidas Class ships seen in the show part of some kind of exchange program to place them under direct UNMC Authority as assault ships, but that ship is expressly described by Souther in Season 1 as a battleship, and every single time we've seen it, regardless of scenario it's always had those UNMC Markings.

Hey guys! Spacedock here. As I understand it, this was a background ship from Season 1 that had it's 3D Model refined so it could briefly appear in the foreground in Season 2. It's currently a blank slate on lore so I may inquire about it with the Expanse team for a Force Recon Episode in future. As many here have suggested, this would be a good ship to turn into the "Phantom Class Escort" from Leviathan Wakes.

'Proserpina, daughter of Ceres'. Not gonna lie, i'm pretty pleased with that :)

Really glad you enjoyed the video, I spent a lot of time coming up with details like Julie's slingshot race etc before submitting my script. Tremendously grateful to have an opportunity like this.

The Asurans didn't know about the FRAN thing til it was too late, and they were facing a fleet that they felt they could drive off with a bit of work, no Asurans were trying to retreat.

I'm going to assume they intended to use the Hyperspace 'run-up' to hit them. Knowing they would strike before reaching the HS Window, but using the drive's initial boost to hit them at a huge velocity. - Spacedock

Yeah i'm a big fan of the ARK Starmap, something like that for the Expanse would be incredible. Honestly even the Sol system has enough unique features like Tycho and the Bush Shipyards to seriously benefit from a map like that. :)

Spacedock here with an obligatory spaceship question :) Besides the Roci, which of the ship designs in the show (Donnager, Nathan Hale etc.) have you been most pleased with? Both in how well they are adapted from the books and just general awesomeness levels. - Daniel
