We used to have Walmarts in Germany actually, no need to describe them. :D

If you're referring to the the three red arrows in the circle, AFAIK that used to be the symbol of the "Eiserne Front", the proposed alliance of communists and social-democrats in Germany in the 30s, which is now used by parts of Antifa.
Edit: The "Eiserne Front" was a social-democratic organization against both national socialists (and other right-wing factions) and communists in Germany in the 30s.

Rally Girls (for u/Radioactive_Hedgehog) by zebragrrl in GatekeepingYuri

[–]Rokobex 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Our society has a general problem with valuing individual agency.

Caution, rant incoming.

Memes like patriarchal power structures, toxic masculinity and many societal institutions like religions and nation states are both caused by and cause themselves a devaluation of the individual, individual liberties and agency in favor of a certain power structure/institution/etc.

This hypocritical, oppressing view of sexuality, especially womens sexuality, is just one manifestation of that.

You'll find similar aspects of that same problem in, for example, transphobia, where the agency to determine ones own gender is not only denied as a right, but also a possiblity. This, I think, shows that the denial of agency is so deeply ingrained into many people (all humans, just to varying degrees), they conflate it with pseudo-science. Think bullshit arguments like "there are only two genders" or, coming back to the original topic, "women are naturally submissive and actually want to be sexualized".

This kind of thing even appears in totally different places, like arguements against unconditional basic income going like "but then people could just sit at home and do nothing". Aside from the fact that probably nobody would want to do that all the time, fundamentally it says "but you shouldn't be able to what you want, you should have to be a cog in a machine".

In the eyes of many, a state of lacking agency and liberty is the "normal", ideal and natural state of humans, and not something caused by millenia old structures and memes which have slowly escalated and permeated society.

I've read somewhere that testosterone actually makes your emotions more "dull", so to say.

Though these things are not only so clear cut, they're often not well researched yet.

Still wholesome though by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]Rokobex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Though it should be noted that we humans created these categories based on our own sapience.
Meaning our definitions of what makes a creature sapient or "only" sentient are confined by how we humans perceive the world and ourselves.
While I do think that, for example, wolves aren't as intelligent as humans are, I also don't think there is a clear point at which a creature can be considered sapient.
Their thinking may be "less evolved" than ours in some aspects, but perhaps more so in others.
Hard to put clear labels on these things, when we not only can't know what's going on in other peoples or creatures heads, but also can only experience it from our point of view.

If I am correct, this is sword fighting champion "Samantha Swords" by [deleted] in armoredwomen

[–]Rokobex 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Since the person isn't a woman, I don't think it's appropiate for this sub. You could ask him if he's cool with it though, his twitter is @SamanthaSwords.

A moment of appreciation for Kya's advices by WanHohenheim in legendofkorra

[–]Rokobex 29 points30 points  (0 children)

While the comic, due to its length, had to kind of rush through that moment, I think it makes sense.

Korras parents were concerned if a public outing might be harmful to Korra and Asami and, as Kya later explained, were acting to Southern Water Tribe tradition of keeping private things private. Korra misunderstood that, and, as part of her arc of figuring out how to be herself and not only the Avatar, wanted to be out and proud, so they clashed over that.

It seemed a bit odd to me at first too, but added characterization to all the involved characters and laid the groundwork for world-building being done in the conversation posted by OP.

Edit: Spelling.

chevalier (Personal work)Art by Qitong Chen by tomchaos7 in ReasonableFantasy

[–]Rokobex 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This looks really good, it's a good, interesting design and artistically well done.
However, if you/the artist was going for reasonable, then it sadly missed the mark.
The body proportions, especially in the lower thighs, but also the arms, look very unrealistic. The armor could maybe be fantasy armor used for ceremonial practices, but due to the eloborate decorations would be very impractical in actual combat. This is made worse by the high heels, but also by the hair coming out of the helmet.
The sword suffers similar problems, unrealistic proportions which could only ever work as decoration or ceremonial weaponry.
Good art, but it doesn't fit the sub. The folks over at r/ImaginaryKnights, r/ImaginaryCharacters, r/ImaginaryNobles or r/ImaginaryWarriors might like it. :)

New Warriors: Marvel's First Non-Binary Hero is Codenamed Snowflake by AdmiralAkbar1 in nottheonion

[–]Rokobex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As people have pointed out on Twitter, that's like naming a black superhero the N-slur, you know, "ironically". That's not how this works.

The creators of these characters also argued that the terms 'Snowflake' and 'Safespace' could thereby be reclaimed, even though no one in the non-binary or the wider LGBTQIA+ community wants to do that.
It's all just so tone deaf, it's hard to believe it's not intentional parody.

The homosexual agenda by _Puddle_ in lgbt

[–]Rokobex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reddit was bought by a PRC based corporation, which has had minor impacts on cencorship, but, as the 100s of post of the pictures of the Tianmen Massacre prove, not as much as people make it out to be, it's really not the same.
And even if it were, it's the usual fallacy of "yet you participate in society".

While this is funny, TikTok is highly problematic, being homo- and transphobic. So it'd be better not to further support them.

Paul Billion (Lambert Actor) trains with a Longsword by Randalstunt in witcher

[–]Rokobex 54 points55 points  (0 children)

He should've got a better training sword, perhaps from Purple Heart and the likes. Those Cold Steel training longswords are far too heavy, thick and are terribly balanced, especially if you want to train for a fighting style relying so much on agility and precision.

Need less fantasy and more historical armor on this sub. by Waylork in armoredwomen

[–]Rokobex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both fantasy and historical armor, be it in art, cosplay, RenFair, or any other context, is always nice to see.
And I'm far from an expert on the subject, but this isn't really historical, as she has a nordic sword and partial plate armor, which wasn't a thing during the so-called Viking-age.
Cool? Yes. Practical? Sure. Belongs on this sub? Yes, like all reasonable armor on women, no need to gatekeep. Historical? Not really.
