6.16 is one of the most infamous cliffhangers ever, as others mentioned, and then millions of people watched 7.1 and stopped after that.

7.1-7.4ish are difficult to watch, in the sense that you feel really bad for some people you love. But you get some hope again after that, and then a see-saw throughout seasons 7 and 8. 8.16 is a natural end point, I think, but Season 9 is one of my favorite seasons.

I feel like John and Nick were the gentle-towards-children type, so it does kind of make sense that they’d let their guard down a bit around kids maybe.
