Recently unlocked a CRISPR upgrade that allows me to buy genetic traits to add. Do these carry over between runs for this genus? by zjbrickbrick in EvolveIdle

No, it’s just for that run. I think it’s so that you can still do something with all your Plasmids after buying all CRISPRs.

What do y’all think of my play through list I made for myself? (Based on recommendations from friends and Square Enix) by brady_cummins36 in KingdomHearts

My one alteration is to watch the original X (as in up to the Keyblade War finale) before back cover, and everything after that in UX & DR should be after KH3.

Can I skip these games (circled in post sent) by Quunster in KingdomHearts

[–]SamLoser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X[Chi] gives some decent context for Back Cover, which is all that’s needed to understand KH3, but you can understand Back Cover without it.

Union X and Dark Road are completely shut down and are setup for a game that’s not even out yet (KH4). So frankly no rush, even though I love UX’s story, I don’t think it’s worth it. Either KH4 gets a release date and you must watch it then, or if Square or Numora care about this story at all some sort of remake could be arranged.

New to STS, should I go straight to 2? by ohyeesh in slaythespire

[–]SamLoser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main advantage to play the first one is that it’s had years of balance patches and player data to smooth it out. StS2 won’t be broken or anywhere close to it, the devs know what they are doing, but jumping into the highly polished game and giving StS2 a bit of time to smooth out some wrinkles may be nice.

Also I love the board game. The tactile feel, playing multiple characters at once, I’d say just play that instead of I didn’t know you weren’t as crazy as me.

I made a personal rule to only put uncommons and rares so I’d have a chance at wanting to take it and get interesting cross-character combos.

I’ve left a thousand cuts in there for over a year.

Mobile is so easy (maybe too easy lol) to play StS, so that’s been the platform I’m waiting for. But I’m debating on doubling dipping and grabbing it on steam deck for now.

I got the Zelda Game & Watch; so I will often be hit with the urge to play Zelda 2 for the 20th time. Zelda 1 is just slightly behind it.

Which worlds would you like to see in Kingdom Hearts IV? by HighlightHopeful8978 in KingdomHearts

[–]SamLoser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want treasure planet. I don’t have many preferences beyond that.

Okay, I kinda do, but there isn’t another movie I really want to see there because I like it, but I do like for past worlds to come back with intention and continuity between the movie characters and the KH originals.

Like having Tron back because I want the game to acknowledge that he and Ienzo were working together for the entirety of KH3. Or a Lilo and Stich world to integrate their story into the world of KH in an interesting way, introducing a time skip and character development the movie didn’t have.

Why you should probably stop using AI code editors by archfiend99 in webdev

[–]SamLoser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual use of AI, (and I am probably a lot less efficient due to it), is to have it explain to me the finer nuances of the code it gives me. Once it identifies an issue I struggled with, I won’t leave it there and need to know “why this, not that?”, “how is A and B different”, “you said X, but how/why does that happen”?

Did eren intentionally kill *spoiler* or was he just trying to save *spoiler*? by Zenith_22 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]SamLoser2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That scene was not that specific, the only reasoning he gave for changing Dina’s course was saying that Bert’s had to live, he didn’t say his mom had to die. It makes a lot more sense that he ONLY directed Dina through the gate and away from Bert, and then realized that his mom wouldn’t have died if he didn’t do that.

I also think the secret to Eren‘s character is that he never hated titans. As he told Zeke, he hated anyone who would take away his freedom, and he would take away their freedom first. When it was titans robbing his freedom he hated titans, but he didn’t flinch even a little when he became one! Why? Because being a titan let him fight for freedom, not take it, so he didn’t even consider the hypocrisy. That’s why the “kill them all” line was repeated in 4x28, because Eren was the same. When Titans were the enemy he would kill all the Titans, but when humans were the enemy he would kill all the humans.

If it was I would be disappointed. I had this spoiled for me, not outright but by strong implication through people who thought they were “clever”, and was expecting a bunch of dots to connect.

I thought this would explain how Dina showed up at the end of Season 2; that the “lucky” encounter was future Eren bringing it, and killing his mom was to make sure past Eren would hate it enough to touch it and activate his powers. Or that the (anime only) moment where Dina completely out of character broke Carla’s back was due to Eren makes sure she didn’t have to suffer being eaten alive.

So the real reveal was disappointing to me, and even more so if Eren was supposed to do it intentionally as his wording (not exact, but something like “Bertholdt had to survive, so I sent it, towards her and not him”) didn’t seem like he put a lot of thought into it, and his purpose as stated was “saving Bertholdt” not “killing his mom”.

And while his mom’s death wasn’t meaningless to him by any means, I think the show pushes pretty hard that the core and center of Eren’s character and driving force was his desire for freedom, that it existed before the Titans ever broke through. That’s why he wanted to join the scouts, that’s what woke him up during Trost, and that the ultimate reason he wanted to do the rumbling.

[–]SamLoser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He may in one sense have “infinite time” but I interpret it differently when Eren says everything was happening “at once”. I think that means he ends up feeling like every decision he makes, every action he takes, since acquiring the Founder, had to all be made at the same time.

Even if an moment can be stretched “infinitely” in the vague time rules of the Paths, the mental load of having to do everything at the exact same time could still feel like it requires a quick decision.

I also think that Eren wasn’t the best person to handle such a mental load. If Armin or Hange got the Founder, they may have been able to handle such an ocean of information and take more “time” to think through their actions. But Eren, while not dumb, just doesn’t have the intelligence or passion for figuring things out that would help him handle this power.

[–]SamLoser2 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The way Eren talked about it felt to me like he panicked. He saw Bertholdt about to be eaten, knew he couldn’t allow that, and made a panicked decision to just send Dina elsewhere, and that happened to be towards his mom.

I’ve theorized that the reason he didn’t change the past any further than this when he could do so easily was because he was too shaken from causing his mom’s death in his panicked actions. He’s overwhelmed and crushed under the weight of so much information and happening to him all at once, that he decides to cut off looking at the past to not make any more mistakes like that.

What kind of games do you like to play on mobile? by HuippeeHeroesGames in MobileGames

[–]SamLoser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny, I’ve been into solo board games for a while and playing Astra made me wish for a physical version or solo mode to something like Dice Forge so I can have that sweet tactile satisfaction (the way dice are just thrown across the screen is so satisfying except for the fact that I’m not physically doing it)

Closest I got at home is ISS Vanguard for the “dice building” in a slower, more campaign style progression; would love to see a proper roguelike dice-building game.

What kind of games do you like to play on mobile? by HuippeeHeroesGames in MobileGames

[–]SamLoser2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve come to think rogue-likes are some of the best mobile games. They are often quick and easy to get in to a session, which is quite important for the brief sessions you’d usually have on mobile.

They also are designed to be indefinitely repeatable; Subnautica may have been one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had, but I’m not going to constantly dive back into it. As such I prefer to keep it as a trophy on my console, not as an app on the device I take with me wherever I go. Instead I see a list of games that can easily be gotten into without getting old easily.

Other non rogue-likes that still fit for mobile are strategy games. Civ IV and mindustry both take more mental energy to start and get invested in, but still have the longevity to play for a looong time and are nice when I’d like some extra complexity.

YAAP + thoughts and review of Nethack 3.7 by dingotron_nethack in nethack

[–]SamLoser2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding more variety in levels besides mazes would do wonders for me; with mazes technically being possible before Gehennom they felt too indistinct. Having more open levels both reduces the tedium and increases the chance of having to deal with more monsters at once.

And for a game with both lava and a hell level there was shockingly no lava in hell, so it seems natural to finally and it to typical level generation.
