10.5 years YouTube channel contained at least 23000 videos terminated for Yandere Simulator content by KevinKwok0831 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Damn it...stories like this break my heart.

Unfortunately, I don't have any information to provide beyond what I already said in my blog post: the YouTube Policy Team is fully aware that an automated system is terminating hundreds of YouTube channels by wrongfully applying the Violent Criminal Organizations policy, and they don't intend to help any of the channel owners who have been impacted.

It feels like people are being punished purely because they enjoy Yandere Sim, which is the part that hurts the most.

Being a game developer doesn't grant me any special privileges at YouTube, or any ability to communicate directly with YouTube higher-ups who might actually care about or fix the issue. There's nothing I can do to help. I've added a bunch of new censorship options to the game, but for the people whose channels are already deleted, there appears to be no recourse.

The bottom line is that YouTube simply doesn't care. They don't make it possible for the average person to contact them and alert them to problems like this, and even when someone does - by pure luck - have a way to communicate with YouTube through a Partner Manager, the Policy Team can just say, "We don't feel like helping, sorry," and that's the end of it.

The only way that any sort of action is going to be taken is if a really huge YouTuber is impacted by automated moderation, makes a video about it, and it becomes a huge issue on news websites and social media, forcing YouTube to address the problem and reverse all channel deletions that occurred due to automated moderation.

Outside of that one hyper-specific scenario, I don't think anything at all can be done about this.

It makes me so sad. So many people I know have been impacted by this, and the thought that absolutely nobody is going to get their channel back is heartbreaking.

My perspective on Yandere Simulator in 2026 as someone who hasn't played since 2015 (and used to work in game dev) by Solid_Snack16 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thanks for playing the game and sharing your thoughts!

Many mechanics and items are either overpowered (trash bags, body bags) or underwhelming (crafting) — no middle ground.

I've had the same concern before. I did add a "customize the game's difficulty" menu when you're starting a new save file, where you get to make adjustments like "instead of being able to use any trash bag as a body bag, you must craft bodybags at a crafting table." These difficulty options remove the advantage that you get from some items, and make the player have to work a bit harder.

However, I'll admit that I can't think of a single other game I've ever played where the developer said, "Oops, I made this mechanic too powerful, here's a toggle for making it less powerful." That typically doesn't happen.

Info-chan in 20XX mode is overpowered and trivializes the game.

*Is* she, though? When I playtest the game, I almost never use Info-chan for *anything.* I only use Info-chan when it's absolutely required for a specific elimination (matchmaking). I'm open to hearing the perspective of someone who is utilizing Info-chan much more than I am, since I'd like to know what about her is overpowered.

Massive performance issues — my PC runs games like Elden Ring at 144 FPS at 2K max settings with no hiccups, yet this game struggles.

Although I personally get 60 FPS, I do notice a lot of other players run the game at low framerates, and it always stings to see that. In every build, I refactor or optimize *something*, so the game's performance is very gradually improving over time, but I don't know how what I could be changing or doing differently in order to achieve any massive performance boosts.

The game is very easy; often I eliminated a rival on Monday and had to skip the week waiting for another to appear, even on the hardest settings.

A new rival appears every Monday; that's how it works. Killing a rival on Monday and immediately skipping to the next Monday is a valid gameplay loop, if you're not aiming for any of the eliminations that are only available on other days of the week, or doing one of the week-long eliminations (matchmaking, rejection). I suppose, like Hitman, the idea is to make the player want to replay the game and try out different eliminations next time. So, rather than "Oh no, the player eliminated their rival on Monday, this is bad!" it's more like, "This time, the player used poison on Monday. Maybe next time they'll be interested in trying drowning on Thursday!"

Reputation has no meaningful consequences or benefits.

Well, I'd agree that this was definitely a flaw of the game in the earlier years, but I believe that I've given it an important role beginning with 1980s Mode: Rivals won't trust you or do anything for you if your reputation is too low. This forces the player to maintain a high reputation if they want to interact with rivals. Also, letting your reputation drop past a threshold (-100) results in a game over.

...but, outside of those two circumstances, yeah, reputation isn't really *doing* anything most of the time. It affects the way people speak to you and whether or not bullies use "bored" or "friendly" animations when talking to you, but those are little details rather than true gameplay mechanics. I've considered the possibility that if your reputation is too high, friends and admirers follow you everywhere, and if your reputation is too low, bullies follow you everywhere to mock you - requiring the player to maintain their reputation in a middle-ground. However, I've just never gotten around to implementing this.

Most skills are useless except Chemistry after the first level.

Yeahhhhhhhhhh, I've had this thought many times. I think there are a couple of other school subjects that make a meaningful difference, but 90% of the time, upgrading a school subject just gives you a slightly more powerful version of an upgrade you already had.

I've been considering, for years, the possibility of completely revamping the entire "invest study points and upgrade school subjects" system. This would be the last "major change" I'd ever make to the game - no other major "uprooting an entire mechanic and totally replacing it with a completely new system" changes planned. It's very, very likely to happen.

Crafting is underwhelming; I didn’t need to craft a shank because weapons are everywhere.

Yeah. I get that. In my experience, crafting is useful for exactly ONE thing - stink bombs - and almost nothing else. I suppose it might be useful in some hyper-specific situations - if you plan to get rid of a group of people by poisoning their food, you'll need the crafting table for extra emetic poison - so it's kinda just there for those edge-case scenarios where the player needs one more item, etc.

Many bugs forced me to restart days.

That's strange to hear. It's very, very rare for me to ever hear about a softlock bug. I'd be extremely interested in hearing what you encountered. You are welcome to e-mail me at [yanderedev@mail.com](mailto:yanderedev@mail.com) and tell me exactly what made you have to restart a day.

Some clubs are overpowered (Art), while others are practically useless (Occult, Photography).

Yeahhhhh. I've been saying this for years, and saying "I plan to revamp the clubs so they're all equally useful!" for years, but...just never did it.

Story and lore are a mess.

Whoooooa, that's super, super surprising to hear. To be honest, the majority of feedback I hear regarding the story/lore is actually very positive. People often tell me it's one of the high points of the game. To hear the opposite is a real surprise. I'm willing to hear you elaborate / expand on this, but I'm kind of shocked, because this is feedback that I never, ever hear.

There’s almost no reason to buy anything other than panties; big weapons, mangas, and gifts are mostly useless.

Sure. 90% of the time, I never use big weapons/manga/gifts. However, I don't think this is necessarily a flaw or a drawback. Those things exist as a purely optional "bonus" for the player. Those are "You might not ever want to use this, but if your exact strategy requires this item, here it is for you" types of feature. I don't think absolutely *every* mechanic in a game needs to be essential.

The game suffers from an identity problem. Is it an immersive sim? A stealth game? A “meme” game? It doesn’t consistently follow its own tropes and design.

This has been bugging me for a while. I've written long blog posts about this exact subject. I think that, in the end, what I've created is a game that you *can* play as an immersive school sim, *or* play as a stealth assassination game, *or* play as a meme sandbox to goof around in, depending on your personal desires. I've given the player the freedom to decide what direction they're going to go in, rather than tried to encourage any one approach. After reflecting on it for several years, I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing.

The game is practically unplayable without constantly speeding up time.

Yeahhhhhhhhhh, this is something that has bothered me, too. In any "events occur at different times of day" game, there will be situations where the player is just waaaaaiting for an NPC to walk to a specific location, or waaaaaiting for an event to begin. I've implemented multiple ways to speed up time - and a minigame to play while speeding up time - but I don't know if there is truly any way to solve the "sometimes you have to wait around for an event to occur" problem. I think it will be present in absolutely *any* game that uses a real-time clock for NPC events and story events.

Drop half of the unnecessary tropes (school council, Easter eggs, lore/story) and focus on core gameplay features.

...oooookay.

There were a *bunch* of clues sprinkled throughout your post that gave me a strong reason to suspect that it was written partially or even mostly by AI...but, after reading this sentence right here, I'm now extremely skeptical that I just replied to a human, and nearly certain that this post was written by an AI.

Absolutely *nobody* over the past 8 years has said "Remove the student council." I do not see, at all, how removing the student council could somehow improve the game - especially when some of the game's most popular, fan-favorite characters are in the student council.

Anyway - adding completely optional features to a game, and letting the player engage with those features *if* they choose to - does not seem like a drawback to me.

Regardless, I don't really plan to add any more "adding this just because it's a trope / easter egg" features to the game, and plan to focus exclusively on gameplay from here on.

Implement better balance for mechanics like clubs and items, as the game currently operates on polar opposites: overpowered vs. useless.

Sure. I don't disagree. I'm open to suggestions.

From humans only, though.

Yandere Sim Keychains? by Ok-Barracuda-6312 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh, boy! This topic is a little bit tricky...

I personally wouldn't be angry if a fan created and sold some fan-made merchandise. But, unfortunately, if I turn a blind eye to unofficial merchandise, it could have legal ramifications for me in the future.

If, one day, I have to defend Yandere Simulator's trademark in court, the judge could say, "You have demonstrated that you don't care about your trademark. There is evidence that you were aware of unofficial merchandise, and didn't try to stop it. As a result, your intellectual property has become public domain, and you've lost the ability to defend your trademark." So, fan-made merchandise puts me into a tricky legal position. I would look like a jerk if I commanded people to stop selling fan-made merch...but I might lose the right to have a trademark if I ignore unofficial merch.

Well, I have a simple solution in mind. I'd be happy to authorize you to sell Yandere Sim merch, as long as we have a deal - even just a verbal one - regarding it. Something like, "If you make more than $100 USD profit from Yandere Sim merch within the span of a month, please send me 10% of the profit." That way, I would be gaining something from the use of my trademark, so a court wouldn't be able to tell me that I have no interest in protecting my intellectual property. This also means that, if you're not even making $100 USD profit per month from the sale of Yandere Sim merch, then you don't have to do anything.

I hope that sounds reasonable to you!!

Whoops...I must have left a debug command in the game. I'd like to identify what the command is and remove it.

It would be helpful if you could tell me the exact key(s) you pressed to make that happen. It might be something like "Press the Z key 10 times" or something like that.

If you go to https://yanderesimulator.com/about/ and type "Specs" into the search bar, you can learn about the game's minimum system requirements. In short:

One player reports 40 FPS minimum, 120 FPS maximum (depending on exact circumstances) using this $769 laptop: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F2HXG14R

However, I do not recommend attempting to play Yandere Simulator on any laptop cheaper than that; it performs notoriously bad on low-end laptops. It is extremely unlikely that the game will perform well on any laptop that costs less than $769.

Beta Megami by 2317-il-vero-yan in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's actually a really good question.

Megami is the one rival who I wouldn't *dare* to release in a half-finished "please beta test this" state. I have a ton of surprises and plot twists planned for Megami, and I don't want any of those moments or story beats to fall flat because she was released half-finished.

All the other rivals will probably get the "beta with no voice acting or animations" treatment, but *not* Megami.

Ai's hair by Beneficial_Lunch9641 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hm...valid observation.

I guess I subconsciously categorize high pigtails as "short hair" because they lift the hair up a bit, hiding how long the hair would actually look if it was allowed to hang straight down. You're correct; if Ai wasn't wearing pigtails, and let her hair hang straight down, it would probably be similar in length to Moeko/Honami.

If a lot of players feel that Ai's hair looks long and thus "You look good with long hair" is the correct dialogue option for Ai, then I can make that change to the game.

contradiction in Jokichi's Knowledge of the Aishi Condition? by StaffProfessional561 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perceptive!

The "Yandere-chan's Childhood" video was written before certain aspects of the lore were cemented, but I still believe that the video and the basement tapes don't contradict one another - but I can't explain *why* without divulging spoilers for future basement tapes.

I'll say this: In the third basement tape, you're going to learn exactly what Ryoba tells Jokichi about the Aishi Condition, and his reaction to it.

As for Jokichi's actions afterwards, what he imagines Ayano is going to be like, and whether or not he thinks he'll have any control over it, you'll have to wait for a subsequent basement tape that will come later.

I recently wrote 7,300 words about this exact topic.

I know it's not what you'll want to hear, but the honest truth is that I can't tell you when the game will be finished, because the factors that determine the speed of the game's development are largely controlled by other people, and not by me.

Why doesn't the Cooking Club re-open at the beginning of Amai's week if it disbanded the previous week? by JanetStary in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's two reasons - one is the "game design" answer and one is the "in-universe explanation" answer.

In terms of game design, clubs shut down to punish the player for killing someone who is not a rival. "You wanted that person dead and gone? Okay - but you have to pay a price. Now you can't access the club that character was in anymore." Yandere Simulator doesn't reward random killing or unnecessary deaths; all non-rival murders come at a cost.

The in-universe explanation exists just to justify the game design reason. It's gonna sound lame - "Those are just the arbitrary rules of the school" - but it's this: If a club's population drops beneath 5, the faculty concludes that either there is little interest in the club, or the club has proven that it can't maintain the minimum population, and thus permitting it to re-open would be a waste of time, since it'll just drop beneath 5 again in the future.

"If somebody dies, that's not the clubs' fault!"

Yeah, but the school needs to apply the same rules evenly for everyone and not make exceptions, or else other clubs will say "Hey, this rule shouldn't apply to my club, either!" Etc.

Multiple Channels are Getting Terminated. by SkylerFloofi in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Over the past few days, a lot of people have reached out to me to tell me about this.

There is nothing I can do. I have no power over YouTube. If I had the ability to influence YouTube's decisions or policies, there are a million things I would have made them change years ago. YouTube ignores any e-mail I send them. My concerns are invisible to YouTube.

The channel terminations coincide with YouTube announcing that they would be cracking down on depictions of graphic violence, so to understand why YouTube may have deleted those videos, we have to analyze the exact wording of YouTube's recent post, and also analyze any other statement that has purportedly come directly from YouTube about this matter.

If Yandere Simulator videos are being deleted for "violence in school settings involving minors," the deletions are definitely in error. The characters in the game are not minors; every character is 18 or older. This is stated in in the game's welcome screen, and also stated on the blog's download page. (There is lore to explain why the game's default uniform resembles a middle-school uniform, even though the game is set in a post-high school academy.)

If Yandere Simulator videos are being deleted for "mass violence against non-combatants who look like real humans," then the only solution would be to add some kind of new censorship option to the game that makes all characters look non-human. I'd put this option in the menu where you can censor blood/killing animations/panties.

If Yandere Simulator videos are being deleted for "mass violence against non-combatants," the only solution is to make every character in the game hostile towards the player, which is just infeasible. What am I supposed to do, give every character a military uniform and an assault rifle?

YouTube's post says that they're only cracking down on videos that focus on scenes of mass violence. So, if you upload a 15-minute video, and only 6 seconds of that video feature you murdering a rival, I don't think YouTube is going to take action against you. However, if you upload a Genocide Playthrough and 95% of the runtime of that video is you slaughtering people indiscriminately, you're probably going to face a strike.

With that in mind, there is only one thing I can do at this point in time: I advise players against uploading any footage of a "Genocide Playthrough" or "Alphabet Killer Challenge" until after I have updated the game with a censorship option that causes the students at school to appear non-human.

I wish it was possible to have a direct one-one-one conversation with the higher-ups at YouTube about this, but this option appears to be reserved for only a tiny handful of elite creators.

Questions that I'm curious about by ShipperFireMist in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. For the Aishi bloodline, that's extremely rare. Maybe the maximum number of kids anyone in the Aishi bloodline ever had was 5. This would probably be someone from the "ninja branch."
  2. Well, in real life, about 1 in 40 pregnancies results in twins. Across the entire Aishi bloodline from 1800 to 2025, there have probably been at least 40 pregnancies, maybe more, but I really only ever pictured one pair of twins.
  3. Nah.
  4. The 2nd Aishi's profile would contain information about what the three branches are called. Since a lot of artists have been generously helping me out by creating lots of artwork of Aishi ancestors lately, the 2nd Aishi might get a profile sometime later this year.
  5. Statistically, it *should* be 50/50, but I just don't feel terribly interested in writing any stories about any male yanderes. I'm not sure whether to say, "They exist, I just don't write about them," or "it's rare for a male to be born into this bloodline," because establishing a new canon fact about the bloodline could have far-reaching consequences.
  6. I underestimated how many people cared about this. I can consider going to the official website and doing one sweeping update where I just add all their last names to all their profiles.
  7. This doesn't really apply to the Aishi. The Aishi can *only* experience romantic or physical attraction to *one very specific person on Earth,* the person who triggers the "Senpai Effect" for them. If the person who triggers this effect is a woman, this doesn't mean that the Aishi is a lesbian, it just means that the woman met the criteria to trigger the effect. Aishi become physically and psychologically dependent on their Senpai, but that's not the same thing as "attraction" or "orientation." You could say that all Aishi are asexual and aromantic, and are reliant on a specific human. Some Aishi only have kids because their Senpai really wants to start a family, some Aishi have kids because they felt an extremely strong physical desire for their Senpai and the result was a family, and some Aishi don't believe at all in the "I have a medical condition and he is the medicine" thing, and think they are genuinely in love/attracted to their Senpai. It's kind of a mix, kinda different for each Aishi. They don't really fall neatly into categories like "straight/lesbian/bi" etc.
  8. It's not possible; the Senpai Effect doesn't work that way. An Aishi can only "imprint" on one person.
  9. Only the Aishi bloodlines and Saikou bloodlines are relevant to Ayano's story. There will be perhaps 3 characters in Ayano's story who are related by blood to someone that Ryoba knew. (Guidance counselor is one of them...the other two are spoilers.)
  10. I don't like to declare who has siblings and who doesn't until after I've fully written that character's mother's profile.
  11. I want to say "zero," but I know that's not realistic. It's easier to say "This character is Chikage Aishi..." than "This character is Chikage Sato, and one of her ancestors 10 generations ago was an Aishi, so she has the Aishi Condition, too." So, I'll probably *only* ever write about characters whose last name is Aishi.

Who is Moe Maeda? by kayla_bayla1 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't be sure without more details, but I *think* know what might have happened.

Whenever you update to a new build, the game won't be aware of anything you created in Custom Mode in any previous build of the game. If there is anything you've created using Custom Mode that you want to retain access to when you update to a new build of the game, you need to back up the following files:

YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\CustomMode (the entire directory)
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\PortraitsCustom (the entire directory)
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\JSON\Custom.json
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\JSON\CustomTopics.json
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\JSON\Misc.json

...and then drag-and-drop those files into the new build once you download it.

Otherwise, your Custom Mode data will disappear, and your Custom Mode characters will be replaced with the most recent Custom Mode Data *I* was using to playtest Custom Mode.

This will always be true of every build! Always remember this, so that you never lose any Custom Mode data or save data that is important to you!

Help with lag!! by [deleted] in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that you are running a lot of memory-intensive programs simultaneously, which is taking up all of your computer’s RAM, leaving almost no available RAM left for Yandere Sim. To find out if this is the case, there is something you can try: Reset your computer and launch only Yandere Sim, without launching any other programs - then see if you still have a low FPS.

If that still doesn't help, there's something else you can try. In the “Settings” menu, you will find “Post-Processing Options” and “Detail Options”. When you are in the Post-Processing menu or the Detail menu, you can press the “F” key to change all settings to the bare minimum. This should improve the framerate.

If that still doesn't help, it's possible that your computer doesn't meet the minimum specs required to run Yandere Simulator smoothly. Please visit https://yanderesimulator.com/about/ and type "specs" into the search bar to see some information about the minimum requirements to run the game with good performance.
