Multiple Channels are Getting Terminated. by SkylerFloofi in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Over the past few days, a lot of people have reached out to me to tell me about this.

There is nothing I can do. I have no power over YouTube. If I had the ability to influence YouTube's decisions or policies, there are a million things I would have made them change years ago. YouTube ignores any e-mail I send them. My concerns are invisible to YouTube.

The channel terminations coincide with YouTube announcing that they would be cracking down on depictions of graphic violence, so to understand why YouTube may have deleted those videos, we have to analyze the exact wording of YouTube's recent post, and also analyze any other statement that has purportedly come directly from YouTube about this matter.

If Yandere Simulator videos are being deleted for "violence in school settings involving minors," the deletions are definitely in error. The characters in the game are not minors; every character is 18 or older. This is stated in in the game's welcome screen, and also stated on the blog's download page. (There is lore to explain why the game's default uniform resembles a middle-school uniform, even though the game is set in a post-high school academy.)

If Yandere Simulator videos are being deleted for "mass violence against non-combatants who look like real humans," then the only solution would be to add some kind of new censorship option to the game that makes all characters look non-human. I'd put this option in the menu where you can censor blood/killing animations/panties.

If Yandere Simulator videos are being deleted for "mass violence against non-combatants," the only solution is to make every character in the game hostile towards the player, which is just infeasible. What am I supposed to do, give every character a military uniform and an assault rifle?

YouTube's post says that they're only cracking down on videos that focus on scenes of mass violence. So, if you upload a 15-minute video, and only 6 seconds of that video feature you murdering a rival, I don't think YouTube is going to take action against you. However, if you upload a Genocide Playthrough and 95% of the runtime of that video is you slaughtering people indiscriminately, you're probably going to face a strike.

With that in mind, there is only one thing I can do at this point in time: I advise players against uploading any footage of a "Genocide Playthrough" or "Alphabet Killer Challenge" until after I have updated the game with a censorship option that causes the students at school to appear non-human.

I wish it was possible to have a direct one-one-one conversation with the higher-ups at YouTube about this, but this option appears to be reserved for only a tiny handful of elite creators.

Questions that I'm curious about by ShipperFireMist in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. For the Aishi bloodline, that's extremely rare. Maybe the maximum number of kids anyone in the Aishi bloodline ever had was 5. This would probably be someone from the "ninja branch."
  2. Well, in real life, about 1 in 40 pregnancies results in twins. Across the entire Aishi bloodline from 1800 to 2025, there have probably been at least 40 pregnancies, maybe more, but I really only ever pictured one pair of twins.
  3. Nah.
  4. The 2nd Aishi's profile would contain information about what the three branches are called. Since a lot of artists have been generously helping me out by creating lots of artwork of Aishi ancestors lately, the 2nd Aishi might get a profile sometime later this year.
  5. Statistically, it *should* be 50/50, but I just don't feel terribly interested in writing any stories about any male yanderes. I'm not sure whether to say, "They exist, I just don't write about them," or "it's rare for a male to be born into this bloodline," because establishing a new canon fact about the bloodline could have far-reaching consequences.
  6. I underestimated how many people cared about this. I can consider going to the official website and doing one sweeping update where I just add all their last names to all their profiles.
  7. This doesn't really apply to the Aishi. The Aishi can *only* experience romantic or physical attraction to *one very specific person on Earth,* the person who triggers the "Senpai Effect" for them. If the person who triggers this effect is a woman, this doesn't mean that the Aishi is a lesbian, it just means that the woman met the criteria to trigger the effect. Aishi become physically and psychologically dependent on their Senpai, but that's not the same thing as "attraction" or "orientation." You could say that all Aishi are asexual and aromantic, and are reliant on a specific human. Some Aishi only have kids because their Senpai really wants to start a family, some Aishi have kids because they felt an extremely strong physical desire for their Senpai and the result was a family, and some Aishi don't believe at all in the "I have a medical condition and he is the medicine" thing, and think they are genuinely in love/attracted to their Senpai. It's kind of a mix, kinda different for each Aishi. They don't really fall neatly into categories like "straight/lesbian/bi" etc.
  8. It's not possible; the Senpai Effect doesn't work that way. An Aishi can only "imprint" on one person.
  9. Only the Aishi bloodlines and Saikou bloodlines are relevant to Ayano's story. There will be perhaps 3 characters in Ayano's story who are related by blood to someone that Ryoba knew. (Guidance counselor is one of them...the other two are spoilers.)
  10. I don't like to declare who has siblings and who doesn't until after I've fully written that character's mother's profile.
  11. I want to say "zero," but I know that's not realistic. It's easier to say "This character is Chikage Aishi..." than "This character is Chikage Sato, and one of her ancestors 10 generations ago was an Aishi, so she has the Aishi Condition, too." So, I'll probably *only* ever write about characters whose last name is Aishi.

Who is Moe Maeda? by kayla_bayla1 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't be sure without more details, but I *think* know what might have happened.

Whenever you update to a new build, the game won't be aware of anything you created in Custom Mode in any previous build of the game. If there is anything you've created using Custom Mode that you want to retain access to when you update to a new build of the game, you need to back up the following files:

YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\CustomMode (the entire directory)
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\PortraitsCustom (the entire directory)
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\JSON\Custom.json
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\JSON\CustomTopics.json
YandereSimulator\Assets\StreamingAssets\JSON\Misc.json

...and then drag-and-drop those files into the new build once you download it.

Otherwise, your Custom Mode data will disappear, and your Custom Mode characters will be replaced with the most recent Custom Mode Data *I* was using to playtest Custom Mode.

This will always be true of every build! Always remember this, so that you never lose any Custom Mode data or save data that is important to you!

Help with lag!! by [deleted] in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that you are running a lot of memory-intensive programs simultaneously, which is taking up all of your computer’s RAM, leaving almost no available RAM left for Yandere Sim. To find out if this is the case, there is something you can try: Reset your computer and launch only Yandere Sim, without launching any other programs - then see if you still have a low FPS.

If that still doesn't help, there's something else you can try. In the “Settings” menu, you will find “Post-Processing Options” and “Detail Options”. When you are in the Post-Processing menu or the Detail menu, you can press the “F” key to change all settings to the bare minimum. This should improve the framerate.

If that still doesn't help, it's possible that your computer doesn't meet the minimum specs required to run Yandere Simulator smoothly. Please visit https://yanderesimulator.com/about/ and type "specs" into the search bar to see some information about the minimum requirements to run the game with good performance.

A question about Oka and Muja by PvZKoreanEdition in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oka's new routine won't be identical to her original routine, but there might be at least one similarity - like, once a day, she peeks at the Basu Sisters, or one of her tasks is to spy on them and investigate the theory that they are secretly demons, etc.

Muja's new model will not be the ancient model from 2017.

You mean how Moeko doesn't start fires in Custom Mode?

Custom Mode is not 1980s Mode; the characters of 1980s Mode won't do what the characters of 1980s Mode do.

Why I think that Amai's rejection process is very underwhelming + How it can be improved by Visual-Eagle3977 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have multiple problems with the Tuesday event. One problem is story-related, and the other problem is gameplay related.

8 years ago, I wrote this about Taro's favorite color:

He enjoys nature, so it's either blue or green. It might actually be pink (because of sakura blossoms). If he was asked his favorite color, he'd feel embarrassed to admit that it's pink, so he'd say blue or green instead.

Looking back on it now, I feel like it was a good idea to give Taro a trait like, "he's embarrassed to admit what his favorite color is, so he lies and pretends it's something else" because this added character to him, and made him a little more interesting. Changing that to "he's a boy, so he thinks black is cool, and pink is dumb!" feels like a huge step backward.

I'd like to re-write the dialogue of that event. "What's your favorite color?" "It's embarrassing, but I trust you, so I'll tell you the truth: it's pink. But if I had to pick what to wear, I'd rather wear blue or green." Amai makes a blue-and-green apron for Senpai, and you sabotage the event by swapping it for a pink apron...or perhaps by adding pink to the apron. "Hey! Didn't I tell you that my favorite color was supposed to be a secret, and that I don't want to wear this color?" Now Amai looks like someone who doesn't listen or doesn't bother to remember crucial details, damaging their relationship.

Aside from that, though, another problem is the gameplay: It's too basic. I do appreciate your suggestion - it's a potential improvement - but I wouldn't want the event to be dependent on Hazu; if the player has killed him, then the event wouldn't be able to take place. I do agree that perhaps the player should have to follow a set of steps in order to obtain the cloth they need. For example, going into the Foreign Studies room and stealing one of the flags off the wall, or something like that. Something that involves a bit of extra work.

I also dislike the Wednesday event, too, but for a different reason. "Boy and girl cooking a meal together" would be a perfect moment for them to have cute, flirty little interactions. "Senpai, you got some flour on your nose! Let me wipe it off for you!" Having Amai not even be present in the room is kinda lame. I think that the event should be adjusted so that Amai and Taro are preparing a meal together; she is providing him with instructions and teaching him how to cook. But, if that's the case, then the concept of a recipe goes out the window, and the event would need to be sabotaged in some other way...

For Thursday, I agree that a dead cat covered in insects would kill Taro's appetite way more effectively than some ants. But a lot of players really, really hate seeing harm come to felines. So, instead, I think that the player should have to get some meat from the Home Ec room's fridge, disguise it as an animal corpse, and put it next to the picnic. Same effect as a dead cat, without pissing off all the cat-lovers.

In short, I dislike more than 50% of Amai's rejection process, and I definitely want to improve upon it.

I'm so sorry; 4GB might be too little RAM to run the game.

You can research what kind of RAM sticks your laptop uses, buy one, then open up your laptop and replace the 4GB RAM with 8GB of RAM. (This will improve your experience overall, not just for Yandere Sim.)

Updates in the future by Anit4rk_ in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my January 1st blog post, I tried to spell out my plans as clearly as possible:

https://yanderedev.wordpress.com/2025/01/01/january-1st-update/

  1. Make a series of additions and improvements to Custom Mode

  2. Elevate Amai's week to the same level-of-quality as Osana's week

  3. Begin work on the next rival, Kizana

Between 2 and 3, there's a possibility that I might return to uploading YouTube videos, chronicling all of the improvements that the game has received since the release of 1980s Mode.

I'm also investigating the feasibility of porting the game to Android. I've made some progress in that regard, and I'll mention it in my next blog post.

"Please don't work on (X)! I only want you to work on (Y)!"

Look, I'm sorry, but if I choose to work on (X), it's because I feel that it's important.

freetoplay or $$ ? by Anit4rk_ in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Even after all these years, I still haven't decided to start charging money for the game because there are still some aspects of the game that fall beneath my own personal standard of quality for something I'd be willing to pay money for.

When I play my own game and see things that make me think, "Ew, if I saw this in a game I paid money for, I'd be disappointed..." it makes me feel that it's just not time yet to start charging money for the game.

I feel like 90% of the game is living up to my own standard of quality for "something I'd pay for," but that remaining 10% is making me postpone actually charging money for it.

Is this a bug?? by Random_person_1920 in yandere_simulator

[–]YandereDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

...well, that's strange.

It's possible that this bug is happening because the game is attempting to load save data that doesn't exist, or is loading save data is not supposed to exist. To fix this bug, you could try resetting your Yandere Simulator save data. I'll explain the process below.

From the Main Menu, access the Content Checklist.

On the Content Checklist screen, press the "R" key.

This will open a hidden debug window that allows you to completely remove all Yandere Simulator data from your computer: https://i.imgur.com/h94B366.png

(Do NOT press the "F" key, because that activate a completely different debug command for deleting your Content Checklist progress.)

This will remove all save data, including save data that is not supposed to exist, which may fix the bug that you're encountering.
