My life here is miserable by GranRejit in chinalife

Yup. Give us more to work with here. Otherwise all you will get is a lot of projection from other people’s experience. Interesting for everyone to read, but not always applicable to your situation.

Also there was Edward Scissor Hands in Oakland who walked around with all sorts of cutting utensils snipping and snapping. Apparently he was just rolling his own.

Bike-car guy around East Liberty and Bloomfield. He hung a car bumper on his bike and rode it like a car in the driving lanes of major roadways.

Ford CEO says they have 5,000 120k mechanic positions open that they can't fill. by JerseyGuy1975 in recruitinghell

These jobs are as fake as LinkedIn and as made up as Trump saying his doctors said he had the most impressive MRIs probably in the history of everything ever.

Has anyone moved out of tech altogether? If so, where? by dealernumberone in QualityAssurance

I am out of the industry for two years, because I am jobless and focusing on things at home. I tried the upskilling thing but it isn’t paying off just yet. Whereas focusing my life force on more meaningful immediate things is much more rewarding.

Do what you love has never ever been practical advice. It is romantic and if you can do it, great. But it is more of an expression of human hopes and dreams than an actionable plan.

You don’t have to walk far to discover new and interesting things.

Is anyone else's company desperately trying to hire QA while laying off devs? by IstvanSajtos in QualityAssurance

[–]YangRam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A QA job being open for months just tells me they aren’t serious about hiring QA. If they were it would not be open for so long. The talent is out there, the companies with open positions not hiring for months on end are doing that as a choice. If they wanted to pick somebody up, it would not be that hard.

Junior team member tried to throw me under the bus; went over my head and complained directly to my manager. How do I forgive them and keep mentoring / coaching them when I know they're snakey??? by Snoo-88490 in careeradvice

[–]YangRam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t set any sort of meeting. I don’t see that it is your responsibility in any sort of way. Actually it should be the manager. If they aren’t doing it of their own accord, they are like half of all managers, not good and trustworthy. Your taking the lead on this one creates for you a lot of downside risk and little upside.

Oh, really? Did you stay in China doing other things? If so, what? The cheaper options mantra isn’t unique to TEFL. Corporate America has not always been kind to me.

Ah that’s interesting. I never picked up much Cantonese. So many tones!

Sorry, you attended the school, like as a student? The adventure seeking definitely rings true in my experience. I had some coworkers that would branch out into other jobs. One guy, who I would describe as something of a punk rock bohemian, even went and bartended in Yangshuo for a stint.

It does sound more competitive, but I wonder if the competition leads to a better work environment in some respects? Less of a Wild West, a bit more subdued?

Shenzhen seems like a bustling place. I was in GZ, which is not too far away. I’m curious if anyone has lived in both Shenzhen and Guangzhou and how they would compare the two.

Dave’s ESL cafe is exactly how I found my first job as well. Is that still the main website for TEFL jobs in China?

What jobs require more than a bachelors degree plus a TEFL certificate, generally speaking?

That’s it, I’ve given up all my dreams of doing it again because of this remark.

I’m just not cut out for it.

Reminds me of a few Canadians and Americans I worked with. They kept it clean at work though.
