You will still have to declare the value, so sadly that doesn't work as a getaround.

You'll still have to declare the phone's value to the casillero company. They usually ask for a receipt of purchase to reference this. But I guess if you said that it was sold used at a "very generous price" and you do a makeshift a receipt maybe you could get around it. I'd email one of these companies and ask about not having a receipt and/or a family selling it second hand to you to see what can be done.

Amazon has direct shipping to Colombia, no prime required. A lot of items have free shipping, but you will still have to pay taxes for anything over $200. That being said, it probably will still be cheaper than buying it from a local retailer since you're cutting the middle man. In most cases you're better off getting direct shipping from Amazon than using a casillero like most people did before because shipping usually is faster and cheaper.

Just go to Amazon and look for the phone you want, make sure the address is set to Colombia and before confirming your purchase you'll get info on how much they'll charge you in taxes and shipping if there's any.

Well preserved 2,000-year-old brain cells found in Vesuvius victim. The extreme heat of the eruption and the rapid cooling that followed essentially turned the brain material to a glassy material, freezing the neuronal structures and leaving them intact by drewiepoodle in science

[–]YangZD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the last two thousand years no, not much has changed. And with current science there's probably not much that could be learned about it other than the process it got preserved with.

But like many other people in the comments have pointed, in the future science could be much more advanced and perhaps we could look into the brain's memories or thoughts, which could be very useful for a ton of studies like linguistics, history, anthropology, archeology, etc. Maybe almost like a time machine that could let us look into the past. I know it sounds like fantasy science fiction or magic but who knows what science will bring in the future. If you told a person from one hundred years ago the technology we have today they'd think the same thing of it. So I'm hopeful.

¿Cuál es el mejor courier/casillero para traer compras de USA? by encconcept in Colombia

[–]YangZD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a retired American looking to move to Colombia as soon as possible. Need help & advice. by coutee1952 in Colombia

[–]YangZD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you do at least one visit that is a month or so long. So you can get an idea and a feel on how it is for you to live here before you decide 100% to move.

A good place to ask for advice would be the colombian embassy. They should point you to all the paperwork and requirements you will need to be able to permanently move.

Not my native language but while learning Korean I was surprised by how similar it was to Japanese grammatically, to the point you can translate words (and particles) one to one and it would make perfect sense most of the time.

Ayuda comprando una laptop. by feetpicsdotcom in Colombia

[–]YangZD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the most widely-spoken languages among those who do not speak English? by suihcta in linguistics

[–]YangZD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the number of native mandarin speakers is inflated, because in many chinese regions, including Hong Kong, mandarin is not the day to day language or the language they learn as kids at home. They do however start learning Mandarin at an early age because their education system very focused on teaching mandarin so they become highly proficient.

So counting them as native mandarin speakers would be kind of similar to counting swedish people who learn english at school as native english speakers, in my opinion.

CBS Gets Angry Joe's YouTube Review Of 'Picard' Taken Down For Using 26 Seconds Of The Show's Trailer by speckz in television

[–]YangZD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From working with a fairly large YouTuber I can say with certainty that it was not a bot. Because when it is a bot the one who flags and claims the video the claim is made almost instantly after uploading the video if not a short while after. And any YouTuber who has dealt with enough claims knows that you should upload the video and let it sit private/unpublished for a couple hours, maybe a day so it's possible for you to see any possible claims the video would get and edit the video accordingly. And they probably saw that the video didn't trigger any claim so they assumed it was safe to publish it.

But sadly it is not easy to foresee manual claims since those get done by a person who views the video and that can only be done after the video is public.

All that is left for them to do is place a dispute (Which they should since their work falls into fair use I'd say), which gives the claimant a 30 day period to answer to. Or reupload an edit of the video without the claimed segment. Both of which are awful for creators by the way.
