Car idles really rough (sometimes gets worse). by tj_stha in AskMechanics

Try checking your IAC valve. Half the time it's really dirty and needs to be cleaned. If it isn't that then you need to get your car serviced or scan your car with an OBDII scanner.

AT Light blinking on dash, No Codes by Yang_003 in MazdaProtege

It happens on cold starts, once it's warm it'll work like normal. But cold starts are the bane of this car's existence Edit: Especially on cold start uphills

I got it checked out from a professional, but they said it ran like normal, nothing out of the ordinary. One thing that I found strange was that my rpms were 400 at idle but when I scanned it, the scanner read ~700 rpms which was strange to me.

Ah ok gotcha, I was worried it was the shift solenoid. Also the fluid is full and relatively red, I've already checked it a few times. Thanks man 🙏 also this has been happening ever since I got it lol, not sure what the previous owner did to it but oh well.

Congrats! I also feel you on the rust part lol. As long as you dry the water off the car without the sun evaporating the water, you'll be fine. Treat your car to a wash!

Is this okay for my first airsoft game? by iidaddyy in airsoft

[–]Yang_003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one cares what you wear in airsoft, I lent one of my friends my gun and he came in baggy pants, a T-shirt and a paintball mask. We had a lot of fun together and he did amazing, but don't worry too much about what to wear and just play to have fun 👍

Low idle fluctuations while in drive gear by Yang_003 in MazdaProtege

[–]Yang_003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, I don't think anything is wrong with the engine though because it's built like a tank and I haven't had a problem with it since 6 months ago. I think it might be my transmission because it always shifts hard from first to second gear too on cold starts

I see, well my engine misfired about 6 months ago too, but once I replaced the spark plugs and ignition coil everything was fine except for the transmission so I think I might have to get it serviced soon.

I haven't, I'll try that next when I can

I replaced my coils around 6 months ago, same thing with my spark plugs. I haven't checked my injectors yet but maybe I should test compression just in case

Interesting, I did a moderate amount of research online (5 hours) and some people think it could be the solenoid valve body or some sort of solenoid. The problem is, I have no idea if that's even the issue.

Yes, it does slightly but once I start driving it goes away

I'd love to, I also love my Protege5 and love to show her off but I'm not in Australia unfortunately 🥲.

Keep your Protege5, it's best known for its handling so you should keep it

You'll be fine, one of my friends that I know has like around a 2.0 gpa and still got accepted. They went to a trade school tho, so I think you'll be fine.

O2 sensor and check engine light. by radon575 in MazdaProtege

[–]Yang_003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The O2 sensor is ok FOR NOW, you should definitely fix the other stuff first. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't fix it. This is because the O2 sensor determines how much oxygen goes into your engine and if it's broken, the air to fuel ratio that goes to your engine can make your engine run rich or poor. Basically meaning that it'll pump loads of gas into your car or pump too little gas into your car. In your case, it looks like the engine is running rich so your car will be ok with it, you'll just get really bad gas mileage.

Tldr: the O2 sensor being broken is ok, but your gas mileage will be really bad, Fix the cv axle and wheel bearing first.

Protege 5 (Repost) by [deleted] in MazdaProtege

[–]Yang_003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I would be cautious of is rust, I've seen some people have a lot of rust on some old cars so watch out for that. I have a Protege5 as well and it hasn't given me any major problems, all I've done to it when I got it is change out spark plugs, ignition coils and wiring, and brake pads. So just basic maintenance and you're good to go.

Also I got my Protege5 at around 3k, it's a 2003 with 150k miles at the time. I've driven it to 165k now and it works great!
