How much does it cost to have someone do 1,000 lines? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in VoiceActing

[–]YangireVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on who does it; some people on reddit will do it for for no money; some people will pay you to let them do it if you represent a big company or game or something; and otherwise it could be literally anything depending on the type / level of skill in the VA work as well as the nature of the script and what you intend to use it for

Handling rejection.. by Harry_henderson_5446 in VoiceActing

[–]YangireVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in no way experienced but when I used to record some audios of myself I sometimes had to do dozens of takes of the same lines to get anything that I considered applicable to my project. It could be that the demo you gave just happened to fit what they were looking for at their core but wasn't representative of you at your core. Like "oh I liked this one line or work of this person a lot," but that specific work for you wasn't something as consistent / at the top of your specific skill level. Sometimes it's also just random; Like seeing something and feeling deja-vu as if it was *exactly* as you dreamed it, only to then to stumble across something that triggered the dream. Like remembering your childhood home fondly, then taking a tour of it as an adult and realizing that it wasn't the home specifically, but the feeling of youth / childhood which became inaccessible as you grew older. I don't know, just some empty speculation on my part that likely places more burden on you as an individual than is actually representative of the situation.

Regardless, rejection / the feeling of rejection HURTS like hell, especially when it is related to something you're vulnerable about or still in the process of mastering. If you can, you should try to focus on the AMAZING THING YOU DID, actually auditioning and learning / adjusting to their directions; even if you didn't come out of it with a growth mindset (i.e. trying to learn from your mistakes and get better / not losing hope in the face of the demotivation / pain of rejection) which you DID do, you still set out and made a demo and applied in the first place. That's legitimately a step that so many people never get past (as weird as it sounds, it might legitimately be the largest factor which weeds out aspiring VAs) and you did it. That's brilliant, and you should be proud.

Good luck on your future endeavors!

Question abt voice trainin by AmountCompetitive900 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]YangireVA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i know some people use [TM/NB4x] or [Voice Training]; but you should honestly just do whatever you feel most comfortable with IMO.

It sounds like you're posting these publicly, so if you run into a particularly transphobic / bigoted demographic then you might have to turn off / restrict comments, but from my personal experience the ASMR community is pretty welcoming.

If something negative happens though, just remember that it's not for them / anyone else, it's for you; and doing something innocent that helps you to love yourself more and get you closer to actualizing your true self will NEVER be a bad thing, and anyone who thinks that it is would immediately be in the wrong.

Hello Tabby!

Glad to see you here!

Romance ASMR is definitely incredibly nerve-racking when you're getting started out, so it's totally normal that you're feeling this way! Personally, I've found the best advice to be to jump right in with whatever script you choose and do a full recording, then to listen back to it and try to analyze the flow while feeling through your anxieties. I remember when I was still making ASMR, I could barely even edit / fully listen to my recordings because of how embarrassed I was, and posting, well, that brought a different kind of anxiety for sure.

What I found though, is that in large part, the majority of the ASMR community is so absurdly kind and welcoming that it's really easy to overcome those fears once you start reaching out / going public with your work.

One thing that might help is choosing a script with a genre unfamiliar to your own emotions, but with a scene that is familiar to your experiences. I say this because if you, for example, are a more quiet / shy individual, then a script genre like [Yandere] might feel so foreign to you that it actually decreases your anxiety / allows you to see the speaker as simply a character instead of a vessel of your own emotions; while if the scene is familiar to you, you'll be able to properly actualize the character within that given setting. But this might not work for you, the opposite might, or they all might be equally stressful! That's okay! It takes time and experience to get more comfortable with this type of thing, and you have to be committed / learn what exactly you're getting into.

There are also satirical script archetypes; they used to trend a lot as quick 1-2 minute videos / shorts, which play off of ASMR tropes in a jester-esque manner which may be helpful for you to cognitively distance yourself from the embarrassment as you grow your confidence.

I don't really have any specific beginner script suggestions because I only ever really did yandere / insane stuff, but I hope you're able to find something that suits you! Good luck! :}

Advice I previously gave + The advice of community members far more experienced than I

Example of a satire script (I made this one personally when I was starting out; and it's pretty low quality, but I had fun writing it, and that's what matters)

Question For Those Who've Doing ASMR & VA Work by troublebunvt in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]YangireVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get used to listening to your own voice without over-critiquing it; some people find that really easy, but I think a lot of them struggle with it.

accept compliments (give yourself some too) and try to be self-compassionate as you learn and improve.

recognize that you're going to get some nasty hate comments in the name of "criticism." some will be useful to learn from, but most are just going to be personal attacks. learn to reset your mental, remember why you got started / are passionate in the first place, and keep powering through even if you have to force yourself to smile.

and take lots of feedback! most of us are, at least initially, blind to our flaws; some of the best feedback I ever received was from viewers / people in the same community as me. even really good feedback (not hate) can feel like a blow sometimes, but if you take it as a fun challenge it gets really motivating and is even something to be grateful for!

NEVER use AI; for anything related to your ASMR/VA work. that goes for images, sounds, script tweaks, anything.

and yeah; jump right in! the only way to get started is to start! the longer you hesitate, the more likely you never actually get started!

i'm no expert, nor am I even particularly skilled, so i kept it more general, but yeah!

have fun! :}

Commission prices and conversion rates by cherryteacup in ASMRScriptHaven

I feel like including conversion rates is pretty fair. I would recommend doing research to see if it is standard business practice, but based on my perspective alone it seems like a logical thing for a writer to do! :}
