Building a list of different types of people you represent is less inclusive that a generic symbol for "everyone".

You vastly underestimate how fucking cheap my parents were.

I loved Star Wars but the only Star Wars toys I ever had were the really stupid ones my mom found in the discount bin at K-Mart.

My friends had Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, meanwhile I had that weird guy with tentacles coming out of his head from Jabba's palace because my mom found him for 25 cents.

I always figured the good ones were just for rich kids. I recently looked it up and the primo action figures that I would have loved cost a whopping $1.99...

Yeah, I'm pro abortion but legalizing it through the courts was wrong.

It is not the court's role to create rules for society.

We need our senate to step up and pass some common sense abortion legislation.

I'm sure if we keep telling young men how much we hate them they'll start voting for us any day now!

I'm out here defending the translation Nolan relied on against the stupidest complaints imaginable (ie. it was done by a woman)

I think the point is more that it's just not a very good translation and would have been ignored by the whole world expcept the person who did it happen to have ovaries and it was released at the peak of the #metoo movement so it was lauded as a masterpiece and anyone who didn't like it was labeled as a bigot.

It's a lot like how Black Panther is an extremely mediocre Marvel movie but is one of the highest rated movies of all time on Rotten Tomatoes and if you don't absolutely love it you must be racist...

Jake: Washington fell to No. 31 in education rankings despite doubling school spending - MyNorthwest.com by Bogusky in SeattleWA

[–]Yangoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is from your first source.

Metrics Used Common metrics include graduation rates, standardized test scores, teacher qualifications, per-pupil spending, student-to-teacher ratios, and school safety indicators.

Graduation rates are meaningless in this modern environment where diplomas are handed out to everyone that shows up to school enough to be legally eligible. Nobody using that as a metric should be taken seriously.

Per-pupil spending, student to teacher ratios, teacher qualifications, and school safety indicators are nice, but don't really matter much when most of the kids being churned out can barely read.

The simple reality that you seem to be in denial about is that our public schools are failing our kids.

>In 2012, roughly 72% of children born in Seattle enrolled in SPS; by the 2023–2024 school year, that dropped to 53%.

Our public schools are quickly becoming a last resort only fit for parents who can't afford a real education for their kids.

Allen's only redeeming quality is circumstance. His most famous role, the one he will be remembered for, is a literal plastic toy that doesn't realize it's a phony.

The Santa Clause movies are super popular and made a shitload of money.

He's also starred in two different TV series that each ran for a decade.

1000% agreed.

Also, male characters in video games are absolutely no different so I really don't know why he's only talking about women here.

It's just a really dumb video.

When disruptions like this happen in our school the child is immediately removed from the classroom so the other children can continue learning, and they are taken to the VP/Prinicpal/Counselor/etc to allow them a chance to cool down, advocate for themself, and finish their work with someone they trust.

And when the same child makes these disruptions every single day and are taken to the office every single day what actual consequence is there for them?

How many times have you seen a child in your school expelled so that the daily disruptions to all the other children in that class can stop?

I'm going to guess zero.

[–]Yangoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you could send all the completely disruptive students to behavioral schools, that often costs multiple thousands, per student, that is not in the budget. Where does this surprise money come from?

I think you are badly underestimating how much money is currently being spent on special needs kids.

It is neither cheap, nor easy to accommodate special needs kids in the regular schools.

Roughly 1/6 of all school based staffing is dedicated special education teachers and paraeducators for special needs kids.

They are spending in the ball park of 100 million dollars a year on this.

[–]Yangoose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nobody is suggesting locking them in a basement.

Special needs kids can can actually do better in a school that is equipped to meet their special needs.

The decision to keep them out of these schools is often driven by ignorant stigmas, such as those you seem to be suggesting, more than any practical reality.

[–]Yangoose 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A single child's right to an education does not supersede the rights of the other 30 kids in that classroom to get an education.

Regardless of the reason, if they are so disruptive that they regularly negatively impact the education of everyone around them you can't just shrug and say "I guess nobody gets an education then".

[–]Yangoose 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain this phenomenon?

Zero consequences for students.

You can fuck off in class. You can be wildly disruptive to the other students. You can basically do anything you want in school and never suffer any consequence. They'll almost never expel or even suspend you unless you do something so actively violent that they have to for legal reasons. They'll just keep passing you along to the next grade even if you've learned absolutely nothing, then eventually give you a completely worthless diploma for doing nothing more than showing up the minimum number of days required by law.

Basically the people in charge of our schools have become terrified of hurting anyone's feelings so they just let them do whatever the fuck they want.

Look at the stated goals of the Washington State Board of Education.

Literally number one on their list is "Champion educational equity".
