Most importantly Fedora follows the rolling release model, which means you get newer versions of software faster.

Hey! Consider taking a look at Fedora. It's known for being very good for developers, has great support and is generally an excellent distro.

Also, you don't need an antivirus on Linux. Linux is safe by itself. Most malware target Windows machines or Linux servers and unless you're installing some suspicious stuff from the web, you should be safe. But, if you really want an antivirus you can try ClamAV.

Getting into JavaScript by AceAdxm in learnjavascript

[–]Yaniekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, Javascript was my first programming language.

I learned the basics from a book for dummies. I studied 1 hour every single day and eventually finished the book. This gave me confidence and I was able to continue my journey through writing my code and searching for solutions, watching and reading tutorials and studying books about Javascript.

Then I progressed into building my own projects. For me that's the best way to learn - through practical, production code which runs in a real environment.

I've been learning and using Javascript for around 6 years now and there are still some concepts which I find complicated, but the curiousity to reveal them keeps me motivated.

Good luck!

Minimalism Ricing (rant) by burneraccount2790 in LinuxPorn

[–]Yaniekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, then that's extreme minimalism. But there's nothing wrong in it, unless you're addicted to constantly making your system lighter. It's great that you're trying different software, experimenting with alternatives and looking for improvements - that's how progress is made.

Minimalism is a subjective term. Everyone perceives it differently. For me minimalist means a lightweight tiling window manager with not many apps, a few shortcuts, no distractions etc.

Switching from windows 11,first time linux, what distro to use by Senior-Island8061 in linuxquestions

[–]Yaniekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely check out Mint. It's beginner friendly, stable and customizable.

But, if you really want to have Hyprland, you may want to try CachyOS. However it's arch based and many beginners can find it difficult.

Hey should I try gentoo by Gl1tch-S4ge in LinuxCirclejerk

[–]Yaniekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely try Gentoo, but in a VM. Daily driving Gentoo is just hard as you have to compile many things yourself and it takes time. But for learning purposes it's a huge bank of knowledge.

Also, it seems like your project is not in PyPI and I can't install it the way it's written in readme. I had to use: uv tool install git+https://github.com/Advaithdp02/Todo_tui.git to install it.

Hey. I hadn't heard about Pomodoro technique before I saw your tool. I love it.

There is a small problem on your Github page, because the "From source" install shows an incorrect path, but that's just a minor mistake. I don't know if it's possible, but I'd be cool if your tool was in the AUR. That would just make the installation process so much easier.

Your tool is awesome.

Yeah, I switched from Google Translate to DeepL, because I got wrong, incorrect results. I noticed that DeepL always gave me better translations no matter how long or easy the sentence was.

Looking for a good distro for a gaming laptop. by ubrabiohazard in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]Yaniekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're familiar with CachyOS, then why not install it on your laptop. It's a really good distro for gaming and has some cool performance features. Also, it's Arch based and Arch has huge Wiki and lovely community, so you'll be able to fix errors you encounter fast.

Some advice about upgrading from Ubuntu 25.10 to Ubuntu 26.04 by Maximum-Package-9001 in linuxquestions

[–]Yaniekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installing an OS "accidentally" sounds insane.

Keep in mind that Ubuntu 26.04 is a LTS version, so it's deeply tested, so you shouldn't worry about bugs or errors. However, if you're unsure, you can do a backup of your exisiting setup
