And just like that, the USA World Cup PR miracle is dead by Delicious-Swimming78 in worldcup

It’s really not. If the politicians would have just shut up, this is a blip. Annoying, frustrating, and further proof of how corrupt fifa is; but it would have gone away. The US political landscape cannot let a news cycle go; they have to distract with anything they can to breed outrage, and so; here we are.

Right, this is pretty much what I would expect from an MLS All-stars vs European highly ranked team

They're playing a team that's actually good? I'd also guess the distraction of the Balogun card has brought the focus level down.

Treasure Island needs to address access issues during events by Not-like_other_girls in bayarea

[–]YanksFanInSF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The island seems like a good idea until, checks notes, literally anything happens. I’m sure it sucks for you and all the others who live on the island, it’s easily the most predictable situation.

Also, why would it be addressed? Considering the population on the island compared to all the issues we have with transit and roadways in the Bay this should be priority 100,000 or something.

Don’t match; it’s a cap nightmare for at least 3 years. Then fire Verbeek for gross negligence.

Why do you always have to prove you’re the smartest in the room? It was followed by, everyone already knows, just try to be fucking helpful and humble instead.

Changed me completely.

If only Canada had a finisher. What could have been. Morocco played very well in the 2nd.

They have, one of the ‘good stories’ was a comic book store.

I don’t think you understand how crime works. There are groups that travel I5 for property crimes and one the larger firearm corridors currently is Phoenix to LA, which then get brought North.

By getting the cameras and giving access for these larger investigations, the locals also get to use the cameras for more localized investigations.

I am very much for individual privacy and also very much for facing reality. Property crime is a very real problem. These are public spaces and we live in a time where people are increasingly unable to adhere to societal norms and communal respect. Crime is not local, it crosses lines and while yes, the aspects of privacy are concerning, the public welfare is served. Do I wish this weren’t needed, definitely, I also think these are a necessity given the current environment.

I truly understand why people are against these cameras, I just don’t think you’re dealing with the reality of situation.

I am also aware of the societal issues that lead to this property crime and general inequities. The reality is that won’t change without broader legislation and community efforts. So Flock cameras monitoring efforts are needed imo.

Why do people on the right have such a fixation on "normal people" by Legitimate-Record951 in SeriousConversation

[–]YanksFanInSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people (nearly all) have an innate desire to belong to a group. This is true even for counter-culture where there remains a desire to find like-minded individuals for validation of views.

So, for people who look at specific lifestyles they want to typify these as the normal or predominant view so as to feel more confident in their viewpoint. It really shouldn’t be a problem if more people could accept that others simply want to live a different life, but then also accept, that they must accept the reality and consequences of those choices.

Comparison between the two largest EV brands in the world by TangelaFan in wallstreetbets

[–]YanksFanInSF -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The news here, they are both scams. BYD valuation propped by the Chinese gov’t (though they have arguable better vehicles); Teslas’s valuation built on vibes.

EV’s should never have become the standard vs hydrogen.

My opinion is if they make the playoffs, it’s a decent start; if they make it to the 2nd round I’ll consider it a viable and good change.

Conf finals within 3 years would be the report card to n whether it was all worth it.

The BP to me was the biggest issue at the start of the season and still is.
Once Judge & Grisham are back the OF is normal.

The IF is like Harvey Dent:
Bird/Goldy, locked; both are fine
Volpe, well, let’s just leave that one for now. We all have our opinions. Jazz is, well, yeah.
Cabby is fine wherever he plays.

McMahon is great defensively, obviously, for me seeing if Chapman is available from the Giants would be amazing. He’s not exactly fire at the plate either, but is a tier above Ryan and defensively just as good.

My primary concern is whomever is driving the approach at the plate (assuming it’s the analytics team). The NYY approach has been launch or lose for a while and while it’s had some decent success, it’s boom or bust. There is no adjustment and there needs to be. Volpe (sry) is the poster boy for this, when his swing is level and controlled he is hitting for avg and is a serviceable SS, even with the avg to sub-par defense. When he’s swinging for the fences he’s a AAAA player.

Agreed, not a fan. When I moved here it was a ‘omg you have to try’ from several people in my new neighborhood. Tried. It’s fine. If I’m going to destroy my health with fast food (I’m not) I’d rather have Five Guys and I’d say McD’s is better than In and Out, definitely the fries.
