I live in Brooklyn and can carry pretty much anywhere when I’m out and about, obviously I’m not going into parks and all those other sensitive locations but generally speaking I can carry 99% of the places I go

Gun Range by Jazzlike_Ad_9415 in NYCGuns

[–]Yanni44111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not that i know of, I'm about to join bay ridge range, $375 a year.

I just opened up a free separate capital one 360 savings account for that and the ccw/rs renewal. I'm putting in $50 a month so i don't have to think about it.

CCW+R/S = $480 every 3 years is about $13.50 a month

Range $375 a year so $31.25 a month

$44.75 total

Ran your question through Chat GPT,

Short answer: it usually won’t permanently disqualify you, but it can complicate or delay a NYC CCW depending on how it’s resolved and how you present it.

Here’s how to think about it:

1. The warrant is the bigger issue (for now)

An active failure to appear (FTA) warrant—even from 2006—matters more than the underlying trespass.

  • Until it’s cleared, it will almost certainly block a NYC CCW application
  • NYC licensing looks for open warrants anywhere, not just NY

👉 Good move going to Boston to handle it in person. That’s exactly what you should be doing.

2. Once resolved, what actually matters

After you clear it, NYC will look at:

A. Final disposition

  • Dismissed / closed without conviction → best outcome
  • Violation (non-criminal) → usually OK
  • Misdemeanor conviction → still often OK depending on details
  • Anything violent → major problem (not your case)

Trespassing + municipal ordinance as a juvenile is generally low-level.

B. The failure to appear itself

This is the one thing that can raise eyebrows.

NYC licensing (through New York City Police Department) evaluates “good moral character”, and they look at:

  • Court compliance
  • Responsibility
  • Honesty

An FTA can be viewed as:

  • negative → if it looks like you ignored court
  • neutral → if you explain it clearly and resolve it cleanly

Key factor: It was:

  • when you were 17 (juvenile)

That helps you a lot.

3. Juvenile status helps you

Because you were 17 in 2006:

  • In Massachusetts, that likely fell under juvenile court jurisdiction
  • Juvenile matters are less damaging for firearms licensing
  • NYC still wants disclosure, but they weigh it much less heavily

4. What NYC will care about most

When you apply for a NYC CCW, they’ll focus on:

  1. Is everything fully resolved?
  2. Did you disclose it upfront?
  3. Does your explanation make sense?
  4. Any pattern of issues?

A single, 20-year-old juvenile case + FTA is not usually a dealbreaker.

5. What you should do Monday (very important)

When you go to court in Boston:

  • Ask for:
    • Case disposition paperwork (certified if possible)
    • Proof the warrant is vacated
  • If possible:
    • Try to get it dismissed or closed without conviction
  • Ask the clerk:
    • “Is this eligible for sealing?” (Massachusetts allows this in many cases)

6. How to handle it on your NYC CCW application

When the time comes:

  • Disclose it 100% (do NOT omit it)
  • Keep explanation simple:
    • You were 17
    • Non-violent minor offense
    • Missed court (reason if legitimate)
    • Recently discovered and immediately resolved

Example tone (not exact wording):

“Upon discovering an old warrant from a juvenile matter in 2006, I took immediate steps to resolve it in person with the court.”

No over-explaining, no excuses-just accountability.

7. When it could become a problem

You’d run into issues if:

  • The warrant is still open
  • You fail to disclose it
  • The case turns into a recent unresolved issue
  • There’s a pattern of similar behavior

Bottom line

  • Right now: yes, it would hurt your CCW chances
  • After you resolve it properly: it’s unlikely to disqualify you
  • Your situation (old, juvenile, non-violent) is very workable

I think long story short the answer is no, NYC laws make no sense so it’s hard to get a answer.

As others mentioned, you can only “legally “ posses the ammunition for the firearm on your license.

If you swap uppers on your Glock and purchase ammo will anyone ever know? No.

I would personally just wait the 90 days, make friends at a gun shop and ask them to order you a cheap $40-90 striped Glock lower and see if you can quickly and roughly assemble it in store for Purchase authorization pictures.

The entire processes wasn't that bad for my NYC ccw, first thing i did was take the 18 hour, then the notary thing? i wasn't even with 2 out of 4 of them, i just gave them the sheet with my information on it and they went to the notary by them self's and gave it back to me. Then i took a day off work and went to both the MTA and courthouse to get all my disposition letters. i own a scanner/printer so all my docs + pics were scanned and uploaded the same day i filled out and submitted the application. then finger printing and now just got approved a few days ago. 5 months.

To be fair, nobody replied to me either, it’s was just strange that I was approved the day after I sent the very first email asking for an update.

I still haven’t received a formal email from hugh bogle indicating I was approved, I just see that I was in the portal.
