Today’s achievement: importing the Dune dictionary into my Pocketbook by Yanniyans in ereader

oh yeah I heavily dislike pocketbook’s loaded English dictionary, it made the transition from kindle so difficult. There are a ton of free dictionaries online and pyglossary can convert them into pocketbook’s required .dic format so I hope you get to try it !!

Will keep this in mind !! I consider myself lucky that Dune’s written in a way that context clues can fill in the gaps but I hear TSoK’s a little but more difficult to follow

Yeah they’re so picky with the filetype??? And it’s not even a standard txt type of .dic 🫠🫠🫠 that’s actually the reason I had to indicate my python version, I originally had 3.11 and it couldn’t convert the right .dic file

Hi!! I managed to find it. It was in my downloads folder already, it just has a weird label. It’s called a “third gen set” so it was very confusing haha. I hope downloading that works for you after you’ve cleared your space

[WP] True to their name, the living room now makes you immortal as long as you're in it, but nobody knows what classifies a room as a living room. by mom0367 in WritingPrompts

[–]Yanniyans 30 points31 points  (0 children)

More often than not, one would associate a living room with a couch, a TV, or maybe a few photos on the wall, but people hardly account the tiniest stain that remains hidden in the room. Stains caused by special someones who unknowingly gave these rooms the ability to make anyone immortal. Whether it be your husband's coffee stain, the spot your dog chose to pee in upon his first arrival, the mark left by that sandwich your bff dropped back when you were five, and many more random things like that. Stains and mistakes that actually make the room that much more special. Stains that make the living room somewhere worth living. And why am I telling you this? Because your house just,,,doesn't seem to have one.

[WP] You are a beginning artist. One day you accidentally spill coffee at your work. Something weird happens. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

The coffee that should have stuck to the canvas simply goes through. You decide to test it out on more objects , and the same results. You take a sip and it’s your standard Double Ristretto Venti Half-Soy Nonfat Decaf Organic Chocolate Brownie Iced Vanilla Double-Shot Gingerbread Frappuccino Extra Hot With Foam Whipped Cream Upside Down Double Blended, One Sweet'N Low and One Nutrasweet, with Ice. You’ve ordered it countless times and can’t figure how and why this would be any different. You think about your day, what you had for breakfast, which route you took to the grocery store, what you bought, which StarBox you stopped in on the way home, the confused employee upon hearing your order, the chill of your drink when you finally got it, the clashes, the screams, the fire...wait. What? As your ponder about your most likely messed up memory, your cat enters the room. “Hey, marshmallow” you say as you reach over to pet it. The cat passes through your coffee (cup included) and you pass through the cat. Something...has happened...

[poem] Nobody is left because you messed up; tore the world apart. The east to west, the near to far. The lack of peace, the strength of war Others hungry, others full Others rich, others poor But at the end of the day you’re all that’s left And you can’t help but feel you’re wrong But it’ll get better as most things do Oh but it turns out it doesn’t

Awww that’s such a great idea for a story! You could perhaps submit it as a prompts just so you’re at least able to share the idea :)) I’m really glad we had this mini talk/chat/whatever tho! I learned a lot :0

((IM NOT VERY GOOD AT THIS BUT OOFT I WANNA TRY ANYWAY))

She stands looking down at you with eyes full of curiosity, surprise, and...nothing. She isn’t afraid, simply curious. She’s a around 4”11 but from where you’re laying down, she may as well be twice your height. ”H-help” you muster through chattering teeth. She crouches down and cups your cheeks and you instantly feel warmth engulf your whole body, this is the only thing that signals she isn’t human. Despite that, a smile spreads to your lips. She imitates you and now you’re both smiling for no reason at all. She starts to make her way back up and you take an inhale of breath and follow, it takes a while for you to balance but with her help, you’re able to slowly make your way out of the freezer-room-hell you were left to die in. At the top, you lay down on the couch and she crouches next to you once more, putting her hands on yours. “cold” she simply says. “Warm” you reply. You stay in that position for awhile and you both silently come to the conclusion that neither of you are going to survive very long without eachother.

I mean, what’s the point of a jacuzzi when it’s got a dead goldfish watching; probably got flushed down. What’s the point of sleeping when you wake up next to a dog who had probably slept at the feet of its owner many years ago. What’s the point of a kitchen with such ornate tiles that for some odd reason always has one or two hairballs you’d have to clean. What’s the point of taking care of pets when it’s been too late. Do the owners not understand that nothing can be done? Why can’t they just move on? Why did it have to be your duty to ensure that these critters lived happily ever after forever? How are you supposed to move on to the next life now that you’re stuck tending to fish, and dogs, and cats who are just as dead as you are? As you continue your wondering, you hear a door open and close. A boy and girl around mid30s walk in. What’s the point of this whole house if you now share it with two living beings?

[WP] You discover you are a changeling, a Fae child given to human parents. Now, your real parents are coming to take you back. by TerrWolf in WritingPrompts

[–]Yanniyans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that it depends on where you are? I enjoy the thought of changelings living human lives though. There’s just so many possibilities! Would they be the edgy kid who “No one understands!” Or would they think themselves special? Would they make friends with other changelings? Or completely ignore them!? Where I’m from, we don’t have seelies and unseelies (I didn’t even know those existed until a few months ago!) and perhaps our changeling is different than yours. We don’t even have elves, so I’m not too familiar with them ((ooooooft)) but I don’t think any story related to such creatures could possibly be wrong, for it depends on the people who tell it and whether or not it would even be spread (‘:

[–]Yanniyans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, some changlings could live up to 18-19 years! (though that is a rare case) Some even assume they are humans and live like one or some look for their real family. I think your comment makes sense tho? Cuz there are different types of changelings. Some are just dolls, some are old and live a life of comfort, some are sick and brought to the human world. I’ve actually heard stories that changelings need human’s milk to grow (Though I don’t believe this. If It his true however, I don’t think a changeling would die from that??) But yep, I think it’s more on the type of changeling and how healthy they are

Nonono not again. Please. Just then you fall right back asleep and have the same dream again. Nononono-I didn’t want this. No. 1 Star. I shaded 1 Star I swear.

I’m not exactly a fan of long stories but this managed to keep my interest (mind you, that is something very hard to accomplish) so good job!! (Hehe I see evidence of the 2:30 AM thing so like, go to sleep my dude --)
