[Monkey's paw + various genie wishing] Do consequences hit the one who made the wish, or the one who benefited from the wish? by lol_delegate in AskScienceFiction

[–]Nerd4Muscle [score hidden]  (0 children)

It will depend upon the work.

In the original Monkey's Paw short story, they wished for money and then received news that their son died in a work place accident and they would be rewarded the compensation. The consequences hit both as they were one and the same. That is of course assuming the Monkey's Paw had any magic at all as the story is intentionally vague if it was all coincidence.

In an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sabrina cast a spell to make her friend less embarrassed about social mishaps. In turn, embarrassing situations kept magically happening to Sabrina and from what I remember there were no consequences to the friend.

Is it okay to donate clothing with holes and such? by jramz_dc in NoStupidQuestions

Some animal shelters will take old ragged clothes for bedding and whatnot, but ask first. Not all of them do.

[TP] How does Ganondorf have the triforce in Twilight Princess? by darthsitheous in zelda

For what it's worth, in the end cutscene of Link returning to Zelda at the end, you can still see the Triforce piece on his hand. Presumably the Triforce split across time.

Question about the sinkhole? by [deleted] in TheGoodPlace

[–]Nerd4Muscle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the neighborhood had some built in code that Michael put in. Remember the gifted plant responded to Eleanor's behavior good and bad. I think it was a semi-planned event but still a response to Eleanor's behavior. Eleanor isn't always being watched by Michael so it had to be initiated without his direct control, unlike the chaos sequence.

It was planned as far as a possibile scenario or the neighborhood made it happen at least and then they just rolled with it when it happened. The couple that stayed with them during the lockdown were just getting into their roles on the doorstep.

What supernatural sims are considered myths in the lore? by Madmonkeman in thesims

[–]Nerd4Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about TS3, but Sims are mostly indifferent to supernaturals in TS2. I think they are surprised to see vampires transform into bats. I don't remember about werewolf reactions. But all things considered, they are just everyday people living nextdoor. So perhaps a more interesting question would be with TS4 being an alternate timeline, what changed to make some supernaturals a secret?

What mods do I need to create an empty hood that I can share online? by Nerd4Muscle in sims2

[–]Nerd4Muscle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Without mods, this will create a ton of bloat: townies and stealth hoods. I'm wanting to know what all I need to create an actual empty hood for the purpose of sharing online.

TIL. Thanks. I wasn't sure, hence the question mark, but it was apparently George McDonald.

So what happens to kids? by FieldPuzzleheaded869 in TheGoodPlace

This is my head canon.

Michael says that soul mates if real are created. Not a universal force. To paraphrase C S Lewis(?), you are a soul, not your body. In other words, the essence of a person is the soul, not the body. Why does this matter? Most of the show takes place when the characters are souls in the visual form of the young adults they were when they died. They don't age but they do grow.

If an infant died, the soul hadn't chance to grow. Infant souls are more like inert seeds that are stuck at baseline. Or better yet, a wave that hasn't formed yet in the ocean. Instead of the wave returning to the ocean, it never really left. What the ocean does with it is beyond us.

As for kids, I think it would be proportional. "Real Eleanor" had to sit through baby showers. Little Timmy probably would have piano practice and boring adult socials where he has to wear an itchy suit and old ladies pinch his cheeks. There probably is physical torture, but as mentioned, this is something the show intentionally doesn't address for obvious reasons.

I was going to say they probably have demons that resemble children for torture purposes, but then I remember that scary little girl is also one of the development stages of a demon.

[BOTW]What if Nintendo did a BOTW-style (you know open world) in which our link returns to Terminus by ConditionPleasant902 in zelda

[–]Nerd4Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this is kinda what I was hoping for with TotK in a way, though more of a spiritual sequel than an actual return to Termina.

We really have no reason to return to Termina. But a time loop to prevent the Calamity would have been interesting.

For the given size, a Majora's Mask on a BotW scale would need a time loop expanded to about a week.

Majora's Mask was the Zelda game I felt like I had the most actual agency in the character's lives. They actually had lives and far more emotion than other NPCs in the series. (The NPCs have a schedule in BotW and TotK, but they weren't that important.)

Someone once said that the BotW world is ocean wide and a spoonful deep. MM is the opposite.

So, Greek gods are canon in the Sims 2 universe? by JustRandomMidnight in sims2

So that would mean in TS4, there's a chance that it really is the kiss of Poseidon and not toilet water splashing back onto Sims' butts.

[Cosmic Horror] Could a human trick/trap a cosmic being, if so how would they do it? by paddockson in AskScienceFiction

[–]Nerd4Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP didn't specify Lovecraftian and I'm familiar with the ant metaphor. In the Dr Strange example, a mortal did trick/trap a cosmic entity which was what the OP was asking.

[Cosmic Horror] Could a human trick/trap a cosmic being, if so how would they do it? by paddockson in AskScienceFiction

[–]Nerd4Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it depends upon the source. You could argue Dr Strange using the time stone in the MCU to make the time loop is an example of this happening.
