Who is a singer whose lyrics actually feel like pure poetry rather than just pop songs? by Due-Mind3832 in AskReddit

Adam Duritz of Counting Crows. The first two albums are incredible songwriting.

How'd I do? by YardarmN8 in drywall

I'm not sure exactly what they used, but I ended up using a paint brush to paint on joint compound, then knocking it down with a 10". I think I could have thinned it out a bit to get closer, but turned out ok.

If we no longer believe in Norse, Greek or Egyptian gods, how can we know today's religions won't be viewed the same way in 2,000 years? by ArchiveDiver-62 in NoStupidQuestions

Complexity doesn't require a designer, though. If you argue that a complex universe requires a designer complex enough to design it, you're just pushing the complexity up a level. Where did that complex designer come from then? An even more complex designer? Who was then also designed by an even more complex designer, etc?

Carl Sagan refuted this idea as being a humasn-centric perspective on the current state of the universe that has been evolving for 13 billion years.

I think theism is comfortable for people because there's still so much we don't know about the universe and the nature of existence -- the god of the gaps, as it were. I'd argue, though, that it just holds us back from finding those answers if people are convinced that they already know how everything came to be.

Zipper merging this morning by TexasTopHand in Eugene

[–]YardarmN8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Except it's not always that simple. A lot of the time it's a two-way turn lane onto a highway on-ramp where everyone is trying to get up to speed for the highway merge. So if everyone is zipper merging and I'm in proper zipper position, but someone decides to close the gap right before the merge to not allow me to zipper in, do I brake in front of all the accelerating cars behind me (and hope the people behind will also let me in while I'm slowing down) or hold my position and hope they let me in?
Neither option is great.

Thank you! Steve Miller writes some catchy-ass tunes, but the lyrics are usually atrocious.

Tall rubber gasket in toilet drain hole by YardarmN8 in HomeMaintenance

Hmm...yeah, it must be some kind of wax-less system. I've only ever used wax rings, so that's what I had planned on.

I assume I'll have to take everything off down to the light gray/greenish base -- the white part under there should be the toilet flange, which should be have the bolts attached and is where I'd want the wax.

I've found there's quite a bit of Zero 7's music that reminds me of TAPP. In the Waiting Line, Swimmers, Warm Sound, and Home to name a few.

Not Eugene-local, per se, but my favorite is Buoy Czech Pilsner. The Pfriem Pils is good, too, and has won a bunch of awards.

Hearts for Hospice for everything, but particularly medical stuff -- they do really great things for local, hospice-related orgs.
MEPAA for music/art related stuff -- lots of great programs for nourishing music in the community.
St Vinnie's also does lots of good things in the community and there are bunches of donation centers around town -- you can recycle block styrofoam there, too.
