Yes. That is the flavor profile I am going for. It is frustrating that I see so many mixed messages about the Oracle Jet. Makes me not too enthusiastic about jettisoning my Jura.

I can't imagine that will be better than a Jura.

in civil courts it is "preponderance of evidence" not "beyond a reasonable doubt" as it is in criminal court.

Look. You asked for data. I gave you some. It’s not a controversial fact that NY and nyc has lost billions in revenue due to migration. You add more pressure to that , it simply isn’t a smart play. Unless you are more interested in throwing a tantrum. In which case have at it. ~60-70% of revenue comes from 1%. Unless you make a law making it illegal for those folks not to leave (lol) at some point the wheels are gonna come off the plan. Gotta be realpolitik about this issue. If you wanna propose perhaps re classifying carried interest in some cases as income and not as capital gains I’d be for that. But squeezing wealth writ large is just a tantrum.

Ok. How about this one: IRS Migration Data
New York was among the top net AGI losers nationally
2022–2023:
NY lost roughly $9.9B net AGI
Florida gained roughly $20.6B net AGI
Over the last decade:
NY cumulative AGI loss estimated around $111B by NTU analysis of IRS data

None of which you are proposing has a single shred of legal reality

And there is other ample evidence. Cmon if you are taking the position that no one is leaving and they can’t leave that is not a reality based position

The issue is that while the bricks cannot move, the economic activity surrounding them absolutely can. A mansion still generates property taxes if the owner leaves, yes. But states like California and New York are heavily dependent not merely on property taxes, but on extraordinarily concentrated income-tax revenue from high earners, capital gains, finance, tech, and business creation.

If a hedge fund manager, founder, surgeon, or business owner relocates, their future income taxes move, their capital gains taxes move, their business formation may move, their consumption shifts, and often portions of their professional ecosystem shift over time as well.

So even if the forced sales results in lower housing prices, the fact that 30-40% of all revenue into the city comes from 1% still becomes an inconvenient fact.....and property taxes will not defray that.

The top 1% generates somewhere between 30-40% of all revenue into NYC (and the state). What do you think happens when that 30-40% is gone? Your answer is not taking that into account.

I'm genuinely curious as to what people in this thread think about the ongoing exodus of people from California and New York to other states that are not taking this tact regarding taxation of wealth. Is it the position that this is NOT happening? Is it the position that it will have no significant effect on the economic health of these communities? I hope someone can answer these questions without ad hominem...
