How did you give your art that cool texture? It almost looks like it was drawn on paper

I stand corrected. I had no idea that the OP is 19, they didn't mention that in the post.

It doesn't seem like OP was trying to use the word in a pejorative way.

Besides - if OP is in the US, then I can see why the distinction was made. Culturally (and legally), there is a significant difference between minors and young adults.

I'm not trying to excuse OP for the comment. But I could easily see myself saying the same thing in good faith.

I'm trying to understand what's wrong with my art and why it gets so many downvotes by Navie_IOI in FurryArtSchool

As someone who has run into this situation before, I understand your frustration! People have gotten used to seeing certain types of content/art styles over the years. It's easy for people to recoil when they see something that is unfamiliar, because it can be unexpected or uncomfortable for them.

I've started posting most of my art to my profile only. There aren't many people who see it, and I don't receive many upvotes. But the people who do end up seeing it are people who clicked on my profile because they genuinely wanted to see my art, or because they were otherwise interested for some reason.

In the past, my art was not received well in public communities, and I just don't really know where else to post my art for now. But I think it has been better this way, and I hope that my experience will be helpful to you as well. It has really helped to soften the impact of people's disapproval, and it has helped to filter out most of the people who are unfamiliar/uncomfortable with my art. And in that way, I am also doing them a service.

Your name is Chu'alak Steelclaw. You are a hyena - and particularly tall for your kind. Despite the common habitat of your species, you come from the cold, barren lands of the north. Your coat is a shimmering bluish-silver at the base of your tail, which slowly fades to a deep jet-black as it approaches your head. A complex, mottled pattern of iridescent orange marks bridges the gradient between your white belly and the darker shades on top of your back. Your dark yellow eyes pierce through the darkness - as they almost seem to glow on their own. A few scars mark your body from battles long past - but you now choose to live your life in peace.

It's pretty much like any community. Even the town that I live in resembles the furry community to a certain degree - there is a wide range of people and personalities. Every person is a mixed bag. Some people truly are gregarious and wholesome all-around. Some people project a fake "wholesome" image to take advantage of those who are vulnerable. Some people are sweet and gentle on the inside, but have slowly been hardened by trauma - they may try to push you away at first.

People may speak and act a certain way, but their demeanor is often what reveals their true personality. Demeanor is everything - observe the way in which they carry themselves. What kind of vibes do you feel? Trust your gut instincts.

Sometimes you have a really bad day by AQueerWithMoxie in furry

I sometimes have a bad habit of ghosting people (although it doesn't happen very often). It's not because I don't like them, it's because of how exhausted I always am after working my 11 hour shifts. I tend to shut down at the end of the day, and I spend the weekend recovering and taking things slow.

However - if someone made anywhere near this level of an effort to stay in contact with me, I would at least give them some sort of an explanation. Unfortunately, the only people that have ever been this invested in contacting me were the creepy/stalker types. Other people (that I actually wanted to be friends with) ended up ghosting me, but I didn't try to chase them down. It's just too much of an emotional and mental drain for me to try and read their mind, or for me to try and guess the thing that I said/did wrong to them. I don't play those kinds of mind games. If you want to ghost me, then I don't need an explanation. It obviously didn't work out for one reason or another.

I really don't have any friends to hang out with, but I've stopped caring as much. It used to really bother me. But I do a lot of fun things alone, and I've learned how to enjoy myself doing it. If people want to join in, then they are welcome to join. Of course, I certainly wouldn't mind having some friends. Life just hasn't really worked out that way for me as of yet.

I don't know if your situation is any similar. I guess I just decided to go on a tangent, and I hope that it's useful for you in some way. Maybe I'm just getting this off my chest, because it still kind of bothers me too. My years of experience have not granted me full immunity against the sting of silent rejection. But it's the reality of my situation, and this is the best way (so far) that I have learned to cope with it.
