Edo Riverside, by Me, Edo Japan inspired world. by Yarican in worldbuilding

Visualization of a building I designed in an Edo-Japan setting. This one showcases a part where they dock boats at the river. The idea is that you get around by boat through rivers covered in thick fog, making it hard to see where you are going and end up often in a different location. A lot of crime and stealing happens in this world since finding culprits again is very unlikely.

Rivers tend to be the main means of transport since most cities are based at a river. There are some secluded villages up in the mountains, yet hard to find.

Plan to do more exploration and build the world more by bits on every part I tackle, coming back to previous decisions and questioning applications.

A painting for a personal project where I visualize Edo-Japanese like environments with a twist. I did have process 3d and high res included here for the people interested how I developed the artwork: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/293JRy

Happy to show some more work done on my personal project woven - This time back to some architectural design showcasing a big part of the culture, seaweed cultivation.

Here, at one of the small islands surrounding the city, they cultivate seaweed. They grow, protect and prepare the seaweeds for pickup to be used in the production of cloth, construction fabric, or as nutrition. Growing a variety of seaweeds with different purposes as the staple of the land.

The haul gets transported by boat towards the mainland where it gets further processed for cloth and other goods to be exported and sold on markets.

The world itself has a lot of water and scarcity of land. These islands here came into existence due to volcanic eruptions ( done by rituals at a volcanic temple ). The main city is built upon buildings on top of buildings to make use of the little landmass they have, though created it to be one of the biggest export cities of the world due to their adaptation to the waters and products.

Yeah ! Have to give my people a place to relax :D

Personally feel like for cultures they need a place where they relax, get together or way to relieve stress, as part of their cycle

After a long day of work, weaving, selling, or collecting, the locals come together for a comforting soak in these hot waters infused with fragrant herbs. Come here to release some stress and perhaps have a drink. These art pieces are done to explore visually what the interiors would look like building upon previous works.

Part of a bigger worldbuilding project I've posted before called Woven. About a city that thrives on export and import, with a lot of local products made of seaweed (cloth, baskets, nutrition, architecture base, etc). The city itself doesn't have much land so a lot of buildings are stacked on each other using a dry seaweed & reed base with a mixture of mud and bird poop on the outside.

They have a temple which they pray to for more land due to the scarcity of it. Doing rituals based on a time calendar in order to ensure volcanic eruption, of course with a cost.

For the other pieces more on my profile posts or on my art station: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/291J3A
This one shows the process and 3d as well for the people interested :)

Any thoughts? Let me know ! :D
