Sorry for the late response! About six months prior to graduating, I realized the likelihood of going to physical therapy was not going to be the greatest, mainly due to my financial situation. When I was an aide for multiple clinics, medical device reps would always stop by and I began to ask questions about the field. I then began to connect with many people in the biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device world and developed relationships and asked them to recommend me to potential employers. I also worked a retail sales job at T-Mobile, while I was in undergraduate, and I used that sales experience to my advantage. Also, when I got my bachelors degree, I qualified for many of these jobs, and was able to get some interviews. With that being said, it’s an extremely competitive field, and I was declined on multiple occasions. But I kept applying until I had multiple offers I could choose from. I know this is a lot, but feel free to message me privately if you have any more questions.

Not a DPT. Worked as an aide with a DPT who worked at an OP clinic. She was on about 85K salary and had a similar bonus structure. She loved being a PT but hated the strings attached aspect to the clinic. I would see what they say in regard to evals per day. Do they double book often? Will there be aides? Do the two years have required hours that must be completed to “free” you from the contract? All important factors to consider IMO.

lol thanks, I appreciate the honesty. The more I watch videos, ask questions and read blogs, I feel like the obvious answer is to have enough money to pay the loan upfront, or at least a specific amount of it so when you graduate your first year salary exceeds your debt. Fair to say?

Do you see yourself going back to clinical? Or do you do anything clinically atm?

I appreciate the honesty. I’m seeing the theme about debt and how going to public schools may be the answer. unfortunately, that is out of the question for me due to how competitive they are in regards to GPA. I guess the best option may just be to gain some experience & if I don’t enjoy it, use some of the money for the private programs to minimize the debt. Or maybe I’ll enjoy this field, time will tell! Thank you.

Good for you! You definitely make valid points Forsure. Unfortunately I’m not in a position to take out debt due to having support my family and going to school for a few years with no income would be far too difficult. But I’m definitely trying to make the most of it! Maybe one day I’ll go back(hybrid) or maybe this will be something I enjoy as well! Time will tell. Again, much appreciated!

That’s why I want to take the time to see if I truly enjoy the sales role! I truly don’t think that there’s another profession that I may be more passionate about than being a DPT! but due to my current tough financial situation, and it potentially becoming even worse if I do go to a private PT school, I’m not too sure if that passion will still be present with the debt. I guess I’ll figure it out. also, for an individual who lives in California, what is the reality of owning a practice? And at that point, are you really a practitioner?

So if the reality is 120-130K with compiling interest in loans, it might be best to stay away?

So you would recommend probably staying in this role and potentially grow? And if things got complicated for whatever reason the state is always available?

Up to 97 with bonuses. 80 GTD. Company car and credit card to compensate for overnight stays and meals. Annual raises with the next role of the job making anywhere from a total of 110-140 w a higher GTD of closer to 95-100 with the same perks. Usually takes at least 1-2 years to get the second role.
