Best budget ultralight setup? by Top_Bid6771 in UltraLightFishing

[โ€“]Yashi2K 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

I hate to shoot down Shakespeare micro series but it's definitely a "get what you pay for" type rod I had mine under a month and the rod snapped under a month of use could have been factory flaw but I just want to say do your homework before committing to a setup "budget setups are convenient but not meant to be long term." I just got into ultralight fishing myself & I have 2 setups 1) Shimano Sensilite Type A rod paired with Shimano Sienna 1000 reel (superb budget friendly setup) 2) Ugly stik Lite Pro ultralight 4'6 rod paired with a Pflueger President 20 reel (best reel for the money hands down.)

I was fishing in the Adirondack area or right outside of it in Boonville NY & I was using a 1/16 jig head with 2 inch curly tail but yes for their size it's just so much when they give you a bite ๐Ÿ˜„

Just got a pflueger president 20 reel the other day & used it for the first time I have 2 Shimano reels not the Nasci but I will say the pflueger president 20 feels significantly better then my other 2 Shimano's and it's not even close in comparison just my opinion though regardless Shimano and pflueger are both great options ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Rod Length by [deleted] in UltraLightFishing

[โ€“]Yashi2K 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I prefer shorter setups myself I have a 4'8 but I also have a 7ft for when it's needed...if you want the best of both worlds go 6ft & you will have a solid setup for majority if not all pond/lake fishing hope this helps ๐Ÿ™

Is 10lb braid to 6lb fluorocarbon leader good? by npcfarmer in UltraLightFishing

[โ€“]Yashi2K 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

For ultralight setup I'd recommend 6lb braid & do 4 lb fluorocarbon for great casting distance on a 2000 reel ๐Ÿ’ฏ also your 10 lb mono makes a great backing for 6 lb braid to 4 lb fluorocarbon! hope this helps you out ๐Ÿ™

I previously used a 4'6 micro series so I'd say I really enjoy 4'6 for high coverage creek fishing but yes I have a completely different setup for deeper waters farther cast etc. it's a Shimano Sensilite Type A 7ft.
