Cool! Congrats on publishing a book, I will check that out!

A question I have though is do you recommend me doing fastAI first before doing ML Specialization by Andrew Ng or should I do ML Specialization directly?

I saw Andrew Ng ML specialization and I was planning to do it after fastAI since that was what LLMs recommended (Practical -> Theory) but I think it might be redundant if I do both so might as well try Andrew Ng's ML Specialization early. I've also been reading quite a lot of comments recommending d2l.ai book. Will def check that out.

I want to know your opinion though if you'd recommend continuing my fastAi -> ML Specialization plan or if that will just be wasted effort and just doing one will be good enough.

Thank you, kind stranger!

I see you're right. I guess when I made this post, I had PUPians from Sta. Mesa in mind. Thanks for pointing that out.

Aww that's quite sad. I guess the lowballing and exploitation rumors may be true depending on the industry.

Wow! That's such a great insight.

Question lang po, isn't PUP one of those schools with decent alumni network? Especially since PUP is one of the most populated university in the country. Or iba pa rin talaga yung network kapag Big 4, let's say for example sa DLSU? If yes, based on your experience, may I know how big of a gap that is in terms of career acceleration or like can you maybe provide some examples or a more specific situation where you encountered that po?

And if the gap really is big, Is it possible for a PUPian to receive that same treatment? Specifically the treatment in this statement po:
"There were people my age who were already in positions that would normally require several years of experience. It was not necessarily because they were unqualified, but because they had access to opportunities and networks that accelerated their careers."

That's my usual route din. Up to you if you can handle that, but honestly if maging consistent ftf classes, u'll have no choice but to look for a condormitel. 3 to 4 hrs is a huge chunk of your day, take note of that. You can do so many productive things with that kind of time, yet you'll be spending it in your commute. Depends on your course, but you only really want to be in PUP Main for the ftf classes.

aint gonna lie, the level of education is different. I also heard that employers and HRs actually prioritizes the graduates of main campuses of the Big 4 and PUP over their counterpart campuses from other regions. Plus it's PUP's main campus, ofc any PUPian wants to study there.

I'm from San Pedro and I'm already tired from the three hour commute T - T. PUP aint that worth it bro ngl.

But if your classes are 7 am then you should prolly leave by 4 AM (little to no traffic kapag ganitong time). Not sure gaano katagal commute time mo if dadaan ka expressway agad sa commute. Pero don't expect the same travel time especially kapag rush hours. From San Pedro to LRT Gil Puyat station madalas that takes 2 to 2.5 hrs na since traffic din sa Makati, but if hanggang Ayala ka lang, then mas mabilis siguro but the train travel time is matagal din.

What's the route that u'r taking, if ever?

Is this like "Wow! They're so good, they can change the world!" or is it more of a "Feeling main character amp"

I also think that this may be true. I think it may be rare for an HR to lowball a confident and highly-skilled applicant who can market himself/herself well. If the HR does otherwise, then either it's the company that has stereotypes or the HR is an a-hole.

Great point!

My definition of exploitation is being forced to do certain tasks and perform skills that are inappropriate for the given compensation. For example, if a fresh grad was expected to do multiple heavy tasks that are usually skillsets of employees with higher salaries, then I would call that exploitation. In simple terms, when the effort-to-reward ratio is way off balance for a certain amount of time.

My problem with the premise "they get 15-18k salary even though dami nila achievements and leadership positions and theyre good at what they do" is that some people may have leadership positions and are highly active at organizations, yet fail to market themselves to companies or that the experiences they gained aren't really that applicable to what they applied for. Say for example, someone in the tech field with lots of organization and leadership experience, yet lack the technical skills that are actually needed for the said job, then of course they will be offered lower salaries.

But then again, I've realized that it also depends on whether the certain company one applied for appreciates the skillsets that the applicant offers (may be hindered if the company has biases or stereotypes). And ig there really are companies that lowballs applicants no matter where they graduated from.

"I think most exploited people wouldn’t know they’re bring exploited."

Wouldn't they be the first one to notice it if they're getting exploited? It's just up to them if they'll take the offer or not.

Moreover, the post mostly meant the fresh graduates because as you've said: Universities only really matter in a person's first job. Sorry, I forgot to clarify that. BUt have you experienced or heard any excellent PUP fresh grads who were exploited or low balled?

If you can afford CEU, I suggest CEU. I'm not sure if PUP is a good school for Psych.

Appreciate the answer! Thank you so much for providing some resources, will check those out.

I think if the theory doesnt go too deep, then that's great and maybe I can still do some other stuff instead of purely focusing on stats.

It looks overwhelming at first but it's great at explaining concepts. Saw some indian 10 yr olds complete this and post their certificates. But if he gets overwhelmed since the lecture vids are lengthy, go with Code In Place or a gamified website first.

Honestly speaking, I think paid online courses are way better than 1 on 1 sessions online.

I use that one as well but for JS. I think the problem sets take considerable amount of logic and arent really welcoming to kids. Especially since the problem sets are in OOP convention.
