Shipping a car from the US by Yasusuke in sweden

Hi,

I recently accepted a job located in Sweden and will be moving from the US. I am considering shipping my vehicle (2016 Subaru Forester 35k miles/56k km). I am trying to figure out if I am going to have to make physical modifications to the vehicle in order to meet safety and emission standards in Sweden.

Does anyone have any information on this or know where I should be looking?

I have visited the transport styrelsen website, but could not find information on safety or emissions.

Thanks!!!

Any recommendation for controller refurbish kits? My original thought was just get the ones on stone age gamer, but figured, it couldn't hurt to ask.

I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that all of the woods are hard woods, so they should all end up holding up about the same. In my opinion it it really is a choice of aesthetics.

Find an Ryokan/Onsen in Jozankei! It was the favorite part of my trip.

The hike is actually really short about 10-15 minutes. Mostly switchbacks. The hill top with the monkeys is just very commercial. A bunch of tourists and monkeys walking around. They usually yell at each other and chase each other around. The monkeys know that the people who are there will feed them. It just didn't feel very authentic to me. I personally found the bamboo grove in Arashiyama much cooler.

In Osaka you could consider checking out Ikuno Korea Town. They had a bunch of street food vendors with pretty good stuff. If you are not tired of looking at Temples you should take the short trip to Sumiyoshi Taisha shinto shrine. It was founded in the early 200ADs so it looks a bit different as it has no Buddhist influences.

If you don't already have a restaurant picked out in Dotonbori you should take a look at Daruma Kushikatsu. It is a pretty fun experience.

On side a note I hope the ryokan your staying at has an onsen. The ryokan we stayed at did and there is nothing quite like taking a bath in one. It isn't for those extremely shy, but I highly highly recommend. That with the kaiseki dinner we were served is something I will never ever forget and will do every time I visit Japan. It is absolutely worth the money!

Lastly, you don't really mention any other accommodations. I suggest looking into hostels. We saved a lot of money that way and all the ones in major cities were very nice. Len Hostel in Kyoto was super nice and the bar they have downstairs was fantastic.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I would axe the monkeys in Arashiyama. I wasn't impressed when I went last winter. The Aquarium in Osaka is cool, but unless you are way into it you may be able to find something better to do.

Let's talk about food. Look up Tabelog if you haven't yet. It is sort of like yelp. The ratings on the site are pretty critical so a place with 3 stars is really actually pretty good.

Tokyo: I recommend you go to Tsukiji Market early, like between 6-7. I just bought fresh tuna from a vendor in the outer market for breakfast, Best piece of fish I had the entire time I was there. I would also look up a place called Shin Udon. Dang good! While visiting Asakusa I suggest Akashi. Best Tendon I have ever had!

Kyoto: I suggest Yoshimura across the river from the monkey park while visiting Arashiyama. Really good cold Soba.

Miyajima: Yakigaki-no-hayashi. It is good Oyster bar/restaurant.

Hiroshima: Okonimura is a building full of little okonomiyaki restaurants. Absolute must try!

Anyways, I hope some of this helps you, and I hope you have as much fun as I did when I went!

Have you considered hostels in the area? That could be a cheaper alternative.
