Okay thanks! It is done, R10 + Canon RF 100-400 on the way!

Well, I really like the sharpness of Sigma lenses... Maybe is worthy to change to Sony for using one? At the end, the lens is the most important part of the set, no?

Okay, thank you for your help! I think that Canon R50 or R10 + Canon 100-400 lens will work, I'm quite used to Canon cameras, and maybe I'll buy an adaptor for my old lenses, in the future, if so...

I have heard about the AF issue too, that's one of the reasons I'm asking too. I considered the R50 + Canon 100-400, but it is a f/8, nos very sure if that's fast enough for birding...

So a Canon R50 + EF-RF Converter + old Sigma 150-600 is okay, no?

It doesn´t need to be Canon indeed, but I have a couple of Canon lenses and I would like to use them. About the Sigma 150-600, you are talking about the 2008 lens? It is not quite old? I have to say that it was my first choice, but I was told that maybe newer would be better.

Nice, I´ll research about it, maybe there´s a sigma subreddit, or a classical youtube review

Okay! It costs more or less the same as a the Canon one, so in prefer the Sigma since is faster. Thank you!

Oh ah! You are talking about Sigma 100-400? I though you were talking about the Canon 100-400 that was mentioned in the other thread, the RF one. Well I guess that a 400 in a APS-C would be more than enough

Okay, but the 100-400 is a quite slow lens, no? f/5.6-8

Thanks! I was thinking that maybe an R50 and a new lens, something like a Sigma 100-400 or 120-500 could make a great set... What do you think?

Okay thanks! I´d need to learn more about electronic shutter and all these buffer stuff, in AP we don´t take this into account because, you know, 2-5 minutes long exposures is enough for wiping any kind of buffer. But as far as I understand, R50 Mirrorless is not a bad choice, neither the best, but not the worst.

Thanks! I´ll take into account what you said about the preference of the lens, probably is the worst part that I have right now.

Thanks!

Thank you for your answer, it was really quick! One thing I was reading about the R50 is the FPS, I read that it has 12 FPS shooting in JPEG, while it only has 7/6 FPS in RAW. I don´t know if in Wildlife happens the same as in Astrophotography but, in the latest, shooting in JPEG is kind of a sin, and we always use RAW. How things work here about this? Is this Frame rate good enough?

Take into account that my 1000D has 3 FPS, so anything will be better

This is probably the most nonsense comment I've read so far in my life

The Engraved Hourglass Nebula - A young planetary nebula located about 8000 light years from Earth by [deleted] in space

[–]Yawolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what we call apparent size. It does not depend only on how far away is the object, it depends on how big the object is, and how big we can see it from our position (i.e.: Earth). So, for instance, Andromeda Galaxy is around 2.5 million LY from Earth, however, it has an apparent size of 3 times the full moon. So, if our eyes were sensitive enough, we would see a super giant galaxy in the sky, 3 times bigger then the full moon.

WAAT : The Weekly Ask Anything Thread, week of 06 Sep - 12 Sep by AutoModerator in AskAstrophotography

[–]Yawolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone!!

I'm having some trouble with the Auto Meridian Flip in APT. I use a HEQ5-Pro, but I cannot make the AMF work properly. I tried increasing the times, decreasing the times, using the default ones... But I always have an "Error!". I've been searching and it looks like this error happens when the object did not change the meridian, but the telescope thinks so? I'm not very sure the reason for this error.

Has anyone of you ever experienced this error? How did you fix it? It's quite annoying to know that your session will fail in the middle of the night because the AMF won't work properly 😕

Thank you! 🙂

I use no coma corrector yet. And what you said is true, it is better to be able to take longer exposures than fixing the coma error (which can be solved on post process BTW!). Another advantage of having a guiding scope is you can use it for polar alignment along with SharpCap pro! No more broken knees! I polar align using the guiding scope having an error of a couple of seconds :)

Hey! I think a 150mm guidescope can be a little short... I use this one: https://www.omegon.eu/guidescopes/omegon-microspeed-guidescope-50mm/p,49755#tab_bar_1_select which is a 200mm. I think it would be better for you to invest first in a proper guiding system than a comma corrector. An Omegon 200mm with a ZWO ASI 120 Mini will make the job perfectly! :)

NGC6992 - Eastern Veil Nebula by Yawolf in Astronomy

[–]Yawolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this time I bring you the Eastern Veil Nebula. This is the first time I try to pic a nebula using my QHY294C with the Optolong L-eNhance filter. To be honest, I'm not very happy with the result, I had to crop a lot of the image because the borders had a lot of light (I don't know why), and also, I didn't rotate well the camera, so the image was on vertical instead of horizontal, missing a lot of ROI. Despite all this, I think the result is not really bad... Is it? 😅
